Description

The present invention relates to a knitting machine comprising at least one needle bed in the grooves of which are housed sliding needles having at least one heel capable of occupying two levels relative to the plane of the needle bed, one in which the heel can be driven by the cams of the cam holder and the other in which the heel is out of the path of these cams, means for acting on said heels to put them in the positions corresponding to these two levels, one of these means being constituted by a cam pushing the heels back into their low level, and keys associated with each needle to bring them into the working position, in which they can be driven by the working cams.

Une telle machine est connue du document DG-343872.Such a machine is known from document DG-343872.

When knitting Jacquard patterns, especially during "arrowing", it happens that out of work needles carry stitches on hold. The felling of these needles is not only unnecessary, but it may cause these meshes to break with each passage of the carriage. Increasing the working speed of knitting machines increases the risk of breakage due to the greater acceleration imposed on the needles during felling, the efforts increasing in proportion to the square of the speed. Due to the increased working speed, the needles are also subjected to much higher acceleration and braking forces. The vibrations caused and the wear of the cams and needles also increase proportionally. It is therefore advisable, as far as possible, to avoid unnecessary shocks. This is particularly the case when the needles are slaughtered. For these reasons we seek to avoid the felling of needles which are temporarily out of work by drowning the heels of these needles in the needle bed so that they do not meet the felling cams.

According to a solution described in patent application DE-A-2755471, the needles are provided with an elastic extension in the form of a hairpin, whether or not made in one piece with the needle itself. The end of this pin carries the heel of the needle. By means of a cam, the pin can be bent and by pulling it back a span of the pin is hooked behind a special bar so as to keep the heel in the submerged position. The bend of the elastic pin however constitutes a weak point, even if this pin or the entire needle, in the case where the needle and the pin came in one piece, is made of high strength steel. In any case, such a needle is expensive to manufacture.

It has also been proposed to connect the needle to its key or plate by a joint. Such an articulation must be executed with great precision in order to avoid too much play between the needle and the key, too much play being liable to cause irregularities in the size of the stitches and consequently in the knitting. Given the small size of the needle and the key, such a joint also constitutes a weak point, not to mention the wear causing an increase in the play.

The present invention aims to achieve a retraction of the heels of the needles out of work by more robust and reliable means, using neither elasticity, nor delicate articulation.

Ce but est atteint par les moyens définis par la caractéristique de la revendication 1.This object is achieved by the means defined by the characteristic of claim 1.

These means do not include any elastic element, nor delicate articulation. The modification of the shape of the needle at the level of its heel is easy to carry out and does not reduce the resistance of the needle, but on the contrary contributes to ensuring a certain elasticity necessary in the longitudinal direction for the damping of the transmission shock on the heel towards the hook of the needle. The length of the needle is not increased. No additional parts are necessary to keep the heel in the sunken position in the needle bed.

The knitting machine concerned can be either a rectilinear machine with one function or with two needle beds or a circular machine.

The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention.
  • Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a needle bed, representing the heel of a needle in the submerged position.
  • Figure 2 is an identical section showing the needle brought into the working position by its key.
  • Figure 3 is an identical section showing the felling of the needle by a felling cam.

For simplicity, the needle bed 1 is shown in a horizontal position, but it is obvious that it is used in the inclined position. We recognize a groove 2 in which is housed a needle 3 provided with a hook 4 well known per se and a heel 5 at its end. During its movement in the needle bed, the needle 3 is guided between the bottom of the groove and a bar 6, also known per se, extending all along the needle bed. Each needle 3 is pushed into the working position by a key 7 of special shape, capable of occupying several levels in the needle bed and associated with an auxiliary key not shown forming part of an individual selection device described in detail in the patent CH 632 024, in which the key 7 is designated by the reference 8.

The bottom of the groove 2 has a first part 8, at the hook 4 of the needle, corresponding to the usual bottom of such a groove, this first part 8 being followed by a first shallow depression 9 of depth uniform deur with the exception of the part which connects it to the part 8, this first depression 9 being followed by a second depression 10, deeper at the heel 5 of the needle. This second depression 10 can be machined in each groove 2 or alternatively be made up of a single countersink extending over the entire length of the needle bed. Behind the depression 10, there is a part 11 of the same level as the part 8 and serving to guide the key 7 which is retained in the groove by a steel wire 12. At the rear of the part 11, there is a wide clearance allowing the key 7 to tilt inside the groove when it is driven by its auxiliary key, as described in patent CH 632 024.

The needle 3, for its part, has a clearance 14 over a part of its length, consisting of a narrowing of its height, so that the lower edge of the needle, constituting said clearance, is oblique relative to the two sides 15 and 16 rectilinear and parallel with a conventional needle. This clearance 14 extends in the direction of the heel 5 to an oblique bent part 17 connecting the body of the needle 3 to the heel 5. The lower edge of this part 17 is substantially parallel to the ramp 18 which connects the depressions 9 and 10 from the groove. The lower part 19 of the connection between the heel 5 and the body of the needle constitutes a sliding shoe. It can be seen that the non-rectilinear connection between the heel and the body of the needle provides a certain elasticity, which is sought after, damping the transmission towards the hook 4 of impacts on the heel 5. The heel 5 has, on the side of the key 7, at the body of the needle, an oblique ramp 20 lying below a portion 21 perpendicular to the plane of the needle bed. The end of the key 7 also has a ramp 22 parallel to the ramp 20 of the heel 5 when the key 7 is in the selected position, that is to say in the high position. The key 7 ends with a front face 23 perpendicular to the plane of the needle bed. The key 7 also has a heel 24 and is retained in the high position by a second steel wire 25 extending over the entire length of the needle bed, this wire further retaining the heel 24 of the key in the withdrawn position. or preselection.

The operation of the device will now be described in relation to FIGS. 1 to 3.

As shown in Figure 1, the heels 5 of all the needles are first embedded in the needle bed 1 by a special cam 26 secured to the cam carrier not shown. The keys 7 are, at rest, in position 24 '.

If a needle is selected by the selection device, the corresponding key 7 is released, as described in patent CH 632 024, and comes into position 24 ', while the keys of the unselected needles are retained in position 24. The selected key is then driven by a cam of the cam holder shown diagrammatically at 27, and its end abuts against the heel 5 of the corresponding needle by its front face 23, as shown at 24 ". The needle 3 is pushed forward and its bent part 17 abuts against the ramp 18 on which the shoe 19 rises to pass over the part 9 of the groove as shown in FIG. 2. During the ascent of the needle, the ramp 22 of the key 7 slides under the ramp 20 of the heel 5, thereby helping to lift the heel while continuing to push the needle. Once the shoe 19 of the needle is on the part 9 of the groove, the heel 5 protrudes out of the needle bed e t can be gripped by the working cams of the cam holder.

The felling of the needles is represented in FIG. 3. The heels 5 of the needles are driven behind by a felling cam 28. When the heels 5 arrive opposite the depression 10, it is advisable to prevent these heels from fall prematurely into this release. To this end, the heels 5 are supported until the end of their felling stroke by the keys 7, the heels of which are guided by a cam 29 of the cam holder. The two cams 28 and 29 somehow form a channel of uniform width, in which the needle-key assembly is guided as if it were a single piece. The keys 7 then continue on their own to the right by freeing the heels 5, to return to their initial rest position 24 '(FIG. 1).

The embodiment described above by way of example is of course susceptible of numerous variants. In particular, the clearance 14 of the needle is theoretically optional. However, it is preferable to use the entire heel height when going from the low position to the high position. The bent part, 17-19 of the needle could have a regular curvature or not instead of a straight part 17. The depression 10 of the groove could be obtained by a complete interruption of the needle bed. One could accommodate a strip in this interruption to form a bottom comparable to the bottom 10. The heels could be held magnetically in their position embedded by magnets, for example by a strip of plastic material containing ferrite particles.

Knitting machine according to claim 1, characterized by the fact that the lower portion of the needle catch which is adjacent said key is provided with an oblique ramp (20) adapted to cooperate with a corresponding ramp (22) formed on the end of said key for supporting said catch in its upper position during the knocking-over of said needle.
3. Knitting machine according to claim 2, characterized by the fact that said cam holder comprises a cam (29) adapted to guide and retain said key (7) by engaging the catch of said key during the knocking-over of said needle, whereby the key end remains in bearing engagement through its ramp (22) with the oblique ramp of said needle catch.
4. Knitting machine according to claim 3, characterized by the fact that the needle catch portion adjacent the corresponding key has a face (21) perpendicular to the needle bed which overlies said oblique ramp (20), said key being adapted to engage with its end (23) said perpendicular face when the needle catch is in its lower position.
5. Knitting machine according one of the claims 1 to 4, characterized by the fact that said needles comprise on their lower sides a recessed portion (14) extending along one fraction of their length from said bent portion.
6. Knitting machine according one of the claims 1 to 4, characterized by the fact that magnetic retaining means are provided on the bottom of said second dips (10).
