Abstract

The needle jacks are pivoted by an alignment cam between an active position in which they engage the lifting cam and an inactive position. The outer edge of the each jack has a flexible tongue which is compressed by a cam before the needle is presented to an electromagnetic selector which holds it into the active position. When released by the selector the jack returns to the inactive position under the relaxing action of the tongue. A permanent magnet is arranged on each side of the selector to attrack the jack towards the active position and ensure consistent selection.
