Abstract

The invention relates to a device for the connection of a coaxial cable to a symmetrical dipole aerial with an asymmetry correction member and, if required, a transformation member as well as further electrical and mechanical components which are arranged together with the aerial connecting pieces in a dielectric housing, in which device these components are surrounded on the sides as completely as possible by two metal surfaces which are conductively connected to each other at the end remote from the dipole, and are arranged perpendicular to the plane of the dipole and symmetrically with respect to the centre plane, the length of the metal surfaces being </= a quarter of the mean operating wavelength and their height being at least 0.3 times their length. This design achieves a general decoupling of the electrical and mechanical components from the dipole field, and thus a high sidelobe suppression, in a simple and cost-effective manner, together with a neat symmetry of the aerial polar diagram, irrespective of the arrangement and size of the components. <IMAGE>
