- the door 1 is hidden by the mantel of the chimney (not shown) resting on the beam 9.
- the weights 7 and 8 occupy the positions shown in dashes in FIG. 3.
- the closed position of the door corresponds to a slightly inclined position relative to the vertical of the arm 5 as shown schematically by the dotted lines.
- the rotation shaft 4 is mounted at the upper part of the drain 10 which has a general shape in reverse trough.
- the arms 5 of which only one is shown move outside the drain 10, inside the mantle of the chimney.
- the counterweight 8 is integral with a flap or valve 6 in rotation with the shaft 4.
- the arms 5 are made integral with the shaft 4 by pins 11 or else by an appropriate section of the shaft 4, for example in a square.
- the rotation of the shaft 4 therefore causes that of the valve 6.
- the latter is mounted on the shaft 4 so as to be in a horizontal position (as shown in section in Fig. 3) when the door is closed. This position corresponds to a minimum draft, it being understood that this valve is not waterproof.
- the valve 6 pivots around the shaft 4 which gradually opens the drawing duct.
- the drain 10 is mounted at the bottom of the chimney under a plug support 13 which also supports the strip guide 3.
- the upper part 14 of the door 1 of the hearth is provided, as this appears better on the detailed view which constitutes FIG. 5 of a spindle 15 substantially parallel to the plane of the door 1.
- the spindle 15 takes the position shown in dashes and enters the interior of the housing 17 which then forms a stop preventing the vertical lifting of the door. So that it cannot escape horizontally, the lower part of the pins 15 comes, after pivoting into abutment against the part 18, secured to the hood 10. It is thus possible to pivot the door 1 without lifting in particular with a view to debarking the window.

Abstract
Description
The subject of the present invention is a device for closing a fireplace sliding in a substantially vertical direction, of the door type, intended in particular, but not exclusively, for closing a fireplace hearth or a stove and more generally of any flame heating means.
It is known that in order to avoid splashes of fuel and in particular fragments of incandescent wood that have exploded under the influence of heat, it is known to provide fireplaces with fire screens. It is also known to introduce into the chimney a device known under the name of closed hearth, the front part of which is protected by a glass door allowing the view of the fire and its radiation without having the drawbacks of an open chimney. . In particular, closed hearths allow fine adjustment of combustion by controlling the draft in the hearth.
Some of these devices include a hinged door on one of its sides. Other devices are fitted with an upward sliding door which allows the door to be retracted inside the chimney breast. In order to facilitate the operation of the door, it is known to mount the latter balanced by a counterweight, moving in a vertical plane, the counterweight and the door being mechanically linked by a cable passing over a pulley disposed at the upper part of the fireplace. Unfortunately, when the door is raised, the counterweight (s) appear inside the chimney. In addition, the cables permanently supporting the counterweight break after a certain time. It is also known from FR-A-2,512,932 and DE-A-3,248,467 to use counterweights pivoting around a shaft or two horizontal axes. However, the force to be exerted to raise the door varies as the movements of raising or lowering of the latter.
The present invention relates to a fireplace door sliding in a vertical direction and balanced by a balanced device as a counterweight.
According to the present invention, the device for shutting off a hearth comprising a shutter element guided vertically and balanced by a counterweight fixed to an arm mounted on a horizontal pivoting shaft is characterized in that the free end of the arm is connected to the upper part of the shutter element by a strip on a support in the form of a spherical sector, a second counterweight being mounted on a second arm substantially perpendicular to the first arm, and secured in rotation with the shaft. Thus, no counterweight appears when the door or shutter element is raised.
The weight of the door could be balanced by the moment of the first counterweight with respect to its axis of rotation. Unfortunately, this moment varies with the sine of the angle formed by the arm with respect to the horizontal. Also, the second counterweight is disposed on the rotation shaft of the first counterweight, substantially at right angles to the direction of the arm carrying the first counterweight. Thus, the component due to the first counterweight and that due to the second counterweight have a practically constant action whatever the positions of the counterweights during the lifting of the shutter element, the sum of the components of the two counterweights being substantially equal to the weight of the shutter element. When an imbalance occurs, it is compensated by the friction of the strip on its guide. The effort to be made to lift the door is therefore low, since it is limited to compensating for friction and it is, moreover, constant.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the shutter element is glazed, preferably by double glazing.
- - Les Figs. 1 et 2, des schémas explicatifs du fonctionnement d'un dispositif selon l'invention;
- - La Fig. 3, une vue de côté en coupe d'une cheminée équipée d'un dispositif selon l'invention;
- - La Fig. 4, une vue de face en coupe;
- - Figs. 1 and 2, diagrams explaining the operation of a device according to the invention;
- - Fig. 3, a side view in section of a chimney equipped with a device according to the invention;
- - Fig. 4, a front view in section;
- - Fig. 5, a view of a detail showing the locking of the door in the low position, around a horizontal axis.
Fig. 1 shows the elements of the device, the door being in the low or closed position. Fig. 2 shows the same elements, the door being in the high or open position. In these Figs., The elements are shown schematically in side view. We distinguish in these Figures a door 1 whose upper end is connected, by a
According to a characteristic of the invention, the
In Fig. 1, door 1 closes the hearth. The
With this single arrangement, it would be necessary to support practically the entire weight of the door 1 when it is lifted. According to a characteristic of the invention, a second weight 8 is mounted on the shaft 4. This second weight is mounted in quadrature with the
We find the elements previously mentioned in Figs. 3 and 4 which are partial vertical sections of a device according to the invention shown respectively in side view and in front view. In two Figs., The
According to another characteristic of the invention, the
