Definitions
- the invention relates generally to pliers with two arms crossing in a joint, and in particular to those pliers in which the front working legs of the arms are designed in the manner of mutually abutting cutting edges, such as e.g. is the case with a side cutter.
- the term pliers generally used here also includes other cutting, crimping or clamping tools, such as Scissors.
- Pliers of this type have in common that they have two arms which intersect in a joint and whose front sections form the working legs and whose rear sections form the handle legs.
- the joint is a critical area because the two arms move relative to each other in the joint.
- a certain pressing force is required in the joint in order to achieve that the working legs of the pliers exactly, but on the other hand the joint tension must not be too great, because otherwise the friction between the arms would be too high.
- the invention has for its object to provide pliers of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1, in which the tension of the hinge pin can be adjusted precisely and adjusted if necessary and which has a simple structure and can be produced inexpensively.
- the nut has an axially resilient ring gear on its underside, in whose tooth gaps at least one cam protruding from the second leg or from a plate connected to the second leg in a rotationally fixed manner engages.
- the nut has at least one protruding cam on its underside which engages elastically in the tooth gaps of a toothed ring provided on the second leg or on a plate which is connected to the second leg in a rotationally fixed manner.
- Both variants have in common that the nut is secured against rotation by a locking mechanism relative to the second arm.
- This locking mechanism consists of a ring gear, which is provided on one of the two parts mentioned, and on a cam, which is located on the other of these parts. When the nut is turned, the cam engages one after the other in different tooth gaps of the ring gear and it remains in the tooth gap at which the rotary movement is ended.
- the hinge pin is non-rotatable with respect to the second arm.
- this has the advantage that the head of the hinge pin can be made round in the manner of a rivet head and does not require any engagement parts for a turning tool, because the hinge pin can be held in a rotationally fixed manner by holding the second arm when the nut is turned, and on the other hand the advantage that the hinge pin does not rotate with respect to the second arm when using the pliers, so that the nut is rotationally fixed relative to all parts with which it is in contact.
- the nut preferably consists of a round plastic disc with a non-circular axial approach as a handle part.
- the nut can contain a metallic threaded bushing.
- the one arm is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to a plate lying against it, from which a clamping plate projects, which extends essentially parallel to the working legs of the arms and with a longitudinal edge resiliently in the direction of the working leg the other arm presses and that the plate is mounted or fixed on the hinge pin.
- the plate carrying the clamping plate is thus held by the hinge pin and preferably clamped by the nut seated on the hinge pin.
- the plate therefore does not need to be guided up to a rear handle leg. It is simply constructed and assembled without additional holding parts required.
- the plate with the protruding clamping plate represents an easily manufactured and easy to assemble additional part of small dimensions.
- the plate carrying the clamping plate can also have the cam which serves as a locking element for the nut.
- This plate is non-rotatably against the second leg of the pliers. For this purpose, it can have a recess into which a cam of the second arm engages.
- the pliers of the fig. 1 and 2 consists of the arms 10 and 11, which lie flat on one another in the joint 12 and intersect.
- the arm 10 consists of the front working leg 10a and the rear handle leg 10b and the arm 11 consists of the front working leg 11a and the rear handle leg 11b.
- the arms 10, 11 are made of sheet material of constant thickness and are covered in the region of the handle parts 10b, 11b with a plastic jacket 13, which gives the handle parts their shape that is within easy reach.
- a flat web 13a projects from the plastic jacket 13 of each handle part to the other handle part.
- a coil spring 14 is arranged, which pushes the handle parts apart.
- This helical spring 14 is located in a recess 16 which is delimited at the top by the plate 15b protruding and integrally formed in the plastic jacket 13 of the handle limb 11b and at the bottom by a plate 15a protruding from the plastic jacket 13 of the handle limb 10b and integrally molded on this.
- the arms 10, 11 have the shape of flat disks lying one on top of the other, which have passage openings 17, 18 for the shaft of the hinge pin 19.
- the passage opening 18 of the second arm 11 has the same diameter as the passage opening 17 of the first arm 10, but has two flats 18a into which corresponding flats 19a of the hinge pin 19 fit.
- the second arm 11 is non-rotatably connected to the hinge pin 19 via the flats 18a, 19a, while the first arm 10 can rotate on the shaft of the hinge pin 19.
- the hinge pin 19 is supported with a head 19b on the outside of the first arm 10.
- the tapered threaded shaft 19c of the hinge pin 19 protruding from the arm 11 carries a nut 20 which in the present case consists entirely of plastic and which has a threaded bore which is screwed onto the threaded shaft 19c.
- the nut 20 is a round disk which consists of a radial flange 21 and a transversely extending, outwardly facing strip-shaped extension 22 through which the threaded bore passes.
- the approach 22 forms a handle part for turning the nut.
- a circumferential ring gear 23 made of numerous radially extending grooves which form the tooth gaps and the teeth located between the grooves. The radially inward part of the flange 21 presses against the outside of the arm 11.
- the flange 21 has a certain elasticity, so that it can spring axially when the nut 20 is screwed onto the hinge pin 19 in order to move the teeth of the ring gear 23 over the cam 24. In the final position of the nut 20, this compresses the arms 10 and 11 in the joint area with the required force which is sufficient to keep the arms parallel in the joint area, but is not so large that the arms would become jammed against one another. Any re-tensioning that may be required later can easily be carried out by turning the nut 20.
- the pliers 10 have the same structure as in the first embodiment, with the exception of the cam 24, but the clamping part 25 is additionally provided.
- This clamping part 25 consists of a disc 26 lying between the nut 20 and the second arm 11, through which the hinge pin 19 passes, and a clamping plate 27 extending from the disc 26 (FIG. 5). Through an opening 28 with flats 29, the shaft 19 passes through with the flats 19a, so that the plate 26 is secured against rotation by the shaft 19.
- the clamping plate 27 projects into the area of the cutting edges 30, 31 (FIGS. 6, 6a) of the working legs 10a, 11a and lies flat against the inclined surface 32 of the working leg 11a leading to the cutting edge 31.
- the front one The end face of the clamping plate 27 presses in the closed state of the pliers against the inclined surface 33 of the working leg 10a. If a wire 34 (FIG. 6a) is pinched off between the cutting edges 30, 31 of the working legs 10a, 11a, the clamping plate 27 presses the cut wire 34 against the inclined surface 33 so that the wire 34 cannot fly away.
- the wire 34 is only released when the pliers designed as side cutters are opened.
- the cam 24 of the first exemplary embodiment is in the exemplary embodiment of FIGS. 4 to 6a replaced by a cam 24 ', which is formed by a bead of the plate 26 made of sheet metal.
- the plate 26 represents a washer to the nut 20 to a certain extent.
- a recess 35 is provided on the circumference of the plate 26, offset by 180 ° with respect to the cam 24 ′, into which a cam 36 of the arm 11 projects around the clamping part 25 to hold in a defined position against rotation relative to the arm 11.
- FIGs. 7 to 9 another embodiment of the nut 20 'is shown.
- the threaded bushing 36 has a flange 36a at the outer end to which a tubular profiled part 36b, e.g. with external hexagon, connects.
- the threaded bushing 36 is enclosed by the plastic body 37, which also forms the transverse raised shoulder 22.
- the ring gear 23 therefore consists of mutually spaced, radially extending to the nut 20 'depressions in the lower end of the nut.
- the clamping part 25 is made in one piece from a stamped and correspondingly bent sheet metal.

Description
Scheren. The invention relates generally to pliers with two arms crossing in a joint, and in particular to those pliers in which the front working legs of the arms are designed in the manner of mutually abutting cutting edges, such as e.g. is the case with a side cutter. The term pliers generally used here also includes other cutting, crimping or clamping tools, such as Scissors.
Pliers of this type have in common that they have two arms which intersect in a joint and whose front sections form the working legs and whose rear sections form the handle legs. With pliers, the joint is a critical area because the two arms move relative to each other in the joint. On the one hand, a certain pressing force is required in the joint in order to achieve that the working legs of the pliers exactly, but on the other hand the joint tension must not be too great, because otherwise the friction between the arms would be too high.
It is known to use a screw as a hinge bolt, which is supported on one arm of the pliers with a head, passes through openings in both arms and on the threaded part of which a nut is screwed, which presses against the outside of the other arm. To prevent the nut from loosening, it is necessary to either use a self-locking nut or to provide an additional lock nut. In both cases, a hinge pin of great axial length is required and the technical effort and costs for the hinge are relatively high. It should be borne in mind that pliers are a mass product that should be manufac- tured without expensive purchased parts.
The invention has for its object to provide pliers of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1, in which the tension of the hinge pin can be adjusted precisely and adjusted if necessary and which has a simple structure and can be produced inexpensively.
This object is achieved in a first variant of the invention in that the nut has an axially resilient ring gear on its underside, in whose tooth gaps at least one cam protruding from the second leg or from a plate connected to the second leg in a rotationally fixed manner engages.
According to a second variant of the invention, it is provided that the nut has at least one protruding cam on its underside which engages elastically in the tooth gaps of a toothed ring provided on the second leg or on a plate which is connected to the second leg in a rotationally fixed manner.
Both variants have in common that the nut is secured against rotation by a locking mechanism relative to the second arm. This locking mechanism consists of a ring gear, which is provided on one of the two parts mentioned, and on a cam, which is located on the other of these parts. When the nut is turned, the cam engages one after the other in different tooth gaps of the ring gear and it remains in the tooth gap at which the rotary movement is ended.
The hinge pin is non-rotatable with respect to the second arm. On the one hand, this has the advantage that the head of the hinge pin can be made round in the manner of a rivet head and does not require any engagement parts for a turning tool, because the hinge pin can be held in a rotationally fixed manner by holding the second arm when the nut is turned, and on the other hand the advantage that the hinge pin does not rotate with respect to the second arm when using the pliers, so that the nut is rotationally fixed relative to all parts with which it is in contact.
The nut preferably consists of a round plastic disc with a non-circular axial approach as a handle part. In order to protect the thread of the nut against wear, the nut can contain a metallic threaded bushing.
For pliers and the like for pinching wire. are determined, it is known to provide an elastic clamping plate on the one working leg, which presses against the wire end to be severed and prevents this wire end from flying away after being severed. This clamping plate is attached to the rear handle leg of the relevant arm of the pliers and passed over the joint.
According to a further variant of the invention, it is provided that the one arm is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to a plate lying against it, from which a clamping plate projects, which extends essentially parallel to the working legs of the arms and with a longitudinal edge resiliently in the direction of the working leg the other arm presses and that the plate is mounted or fixed on the hinge pin.
The plate carrying the clamping plate is thus held by the hinge pin and preferably clamped by the nut seated on the hinge pin. The plate therefore does not need to be guided up to a rear handle leg. It is simply constructed and assembled without additional holding parts required. The plate with the protruding clamping plate represents an easily manufactured and easy to assemble additional part of small dimensions.
The plate carrying the clamping plate can also have the cam which serves as a locking element for the nut. This plate is non-rotatably against the second leg of the pliers. For this purpose, it can have a recess into which a cam of the second arm engages.

The pliers of the fig. 1 and 2 consists of the
In the area of the
The tapered threaded
Der radial einwärts liegende Teil des Flansches 21 drückt gegen die Außenseite des Armes 11.On the underside of the
In the embodiment of FIGS. 3 to 6a, the
The clamping
The
In Figs. 7 to 9, another embodiment of the nut 20 'is shown.
