Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a valve for filling a liquefied gas container by means of a refill tank provided with a cylindrical connection, this valve having at least one fixed part, a moving part slidably mounted in a chamber. axial of the fixed part and a seal capable of being moved axially over a predetermined stroke by the moving part, the axial chamber opening out through an orifice on an external face of the fixed part, the valve having two passages, l 'one being a liquefied gas filling passage and the other an exhaust passage for bringing the interior of the container into communication with the outside, this valve being intended to be actuated by the introduction of the connector into the axial chamber to move the moving part and the seal against the action of a spring from a closed position where the seal is in contact with the fixed part and the moving part so as to close the two passages towards a position filling where the seal is in contact with the fixed part and the fitting to open the two passages.
  • a valve of this type intended in particular to equip a gas lighter, is described in CH-A-355 167 and comprises a seal constituted by a ring in the shape of a torus housed in a groove of the fixed part opposite the orifice of the exhaust passage.
  • Valves of this type are usually provided with a cover or plug which must be removed to allow filling.
  • this plug is often lost by the user.
  • this cap is generally screwed, which complicates the filling operation.
  • the plug is introduced frictionally into the orifice and, in this case, it is relatively complicated to manufacture, because if it is desired to come flush with the face of the container which is equipped with the valve, it must have a retractable member which can be brought into projection to allow its extraction when filling must be carried out.
  • a valve of this type is also known, described in US-A-3 039 499.
  • This valve comprises a seal inserted between two moving parts arranged one after the other and surrounding a fixed central rod.
  • the connection of the refill tank is not in contact with the seal, which can be the cause of significant losses of liquefied gas during filling.
  • the central rod essential for this valve excludes the use of a number of refill tanks.
  • the invention aims to remedy the drawbacks of the aforementioned prior art and it is characterized for this purpose in that the movable part has an end portion whose diameter corresponds to that of said orifice and in that the seal, of shape generally cylindrical, is disposed between the fixed part and the moving part, this joint cooperating with these parts so as to constitute, in the closed position of the valve, a stop for retaining the moving part against the action of said spring in a position such that its end portion is located substantially in the plane of the external face of the fixed part, said connector being in the filling position surrounded on a part of its cylindrical surface by a portion of the seal.
  • the invention provides a triple combination of advantages in that the end part of the moving part acts as a stopper, that losses of liquefied gas during filling are avoided and that the absence of an axial rod allows the use of a large number of refill tanks fitted with a simple cylindrical tip.
  • the seal comprises two portions axially separated by a cylindrical part, a first of these two portions being in contact with the moving part and cooperating with the latter to move the seal from a first position towards a second position when the moving part is moved from the closed position to the filling position, the second portion of the seal being arranged so as to close the exhaust passage when the seal is in said first position and to be clamped between the cylindrical connector and the walls of the axial chamber of the fixed part in a position remote from the exhaust passage, when the seal is brought axially towards said second position.
  • the seal is brought, during filling, by the moving part into a position such that it ensures complete sealing between the fitting and the fixed part of the valve and a perfect separation of the filling and exhaust passages.
  • Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the valve in the closed position.
  • Figure 2 illustrates the same valve in the filling position.
  • the valve described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 comprises a fixed part made up of two parts 1 and 2.
  • Part 1 has a thread 3 making it possible to fix the valve in a threaded bore 4 corresponding to a container 5 for liquefied gas ".
  • the sealing between the valve and the container 5 is ensured by L rn joint 6.
  • the lower edge 7 of the part 1 is curved to retain in position the part 2 which has a tubular portion 8 projecting.
  • a moving part 9 is slidably mounted in this tubular portion 8 and in an axial chamber 27 of the valve and is subjected to the action a spring 10 bearing, on the one hand, against a shoulder 11 of this part and, on the other hand, against the bottom 12 of the part 2.
  • This part 9 has at its upper part a portion 13 penetrating into the orifice 35 of the valve body, which is delimited by an internal rim 14.
  • the upper face 36 of this part comprises at least one radial groove 37 intended to facilitate the flow of the liquefied gas. In the closed position of the valve illustrated in FIG. 1, the upper face of the part 9 comes substantially in the plane of the external face of the part 1.
  • the valve shown comprises an elastomer seal 15 comprising two annular portions 16, 17 axially separated by a cylindrical portion 18.
  • a first 16 of these two portions has a substantially rectangular section, of which a first face is pressed against the side cylindrical 19 of the movable part 9 and a second face of which is applied against the shoulder 11, when the valve is in the closed position.
  • the other portion 17 of the seal is biased by the spring 10 in a housing 20 provided in the upper part of the fixed part.
  • the interior of the container 5 communicates with this housing 20 by an exhaust passage 21 constituted by a bore 22, a cylindrical space 23 included between the two fixed parts 1, 2 and by openings 24 leading to the housing 20.
  • the portion 17 completely closes the openings 24 of the exhaust passage, when the valve is closed.
  • This exhaust passage is entirely separate from the filling passage 25 for the liquefied gas constituted by openings 26 provided in the bottom 12, the axial chamber 27 and the longitudinal grooves 28 formed in the upper part 29 of the moving part 9 (fig. 2). These grooves 28 do not extend to the shoulder 11 to allow the filling passage 25 to be closed off by the first portion 16 of the seal when the valve is closed.
  • Part 2 of the fixed part comprises, at the level of the housing 20, a ramp 32 against which the portion 17 of the seal is supported. This ramp 32 is arranged so as to bring the portion 17 to a radially more internal position of the valve to come into contact with the cylindrical wall 33 of the connector 30, when the seal 15, in contact with the projection 31, is moved towards the bottom by the moving part 9 (see fig. 2).
  • the portion 17 of the seal 9 is entirely enclosed between the connector 30 and the part 2 of the fixed part to ensure complete sealing of the filling passage 25 to the outside.
  • the moving part 9 is stopped in its course by a washer 34 abutting against the upper part of the fixed tubular portion 8, while the seal 15 bears by its portion 16 against a shoulder 38 of the chamber 27. Additional pressure on the refill tank opens the latter's retaining valve against the action of a spring, not shown. It is important that the spring 10 is chosen so that its force is weaker than that of the springs used in the valves of the refill tanks sold.
  • the projection 31 then drives the seal 9 through the portion 16 downwards. There is opening of the exhaust passage 21.
  • the filling passage 25 is completely closed towards the outside.
  • the washer 34 abuts against the tubular portion 8. An additional pressure on the refill tank allows the opening of the tank retaining valve and the flow of the liquefied gas through the filling passage in the container 5.
  • the moving part 9 urged by the spring 10 rises.
  • the intake passage is closed and the seal 15 is brought by the movable part 9 upwards.
  • the portion 17 enters the housing 20 and closes the openings 24 of the exhaust passage which in turn is then closed.
  • the seal 15 is then clamped by the spring 10 between the upper wall of the chamber 20 and the shoulder 11. It thus ensures a tight closure of the container 5 and constitutes a stop for retaining the part 9 in a position such that its upper face or substantially in the plane of the outer face of the valve body.
