Abstract

When both colored and white wash are to be laundered together, one has the problem that pigment particles are transported from the colored pieces to the white pieces and the white pieces are discolored. This problem will be eliminated in a novel counterflow cycling washing machine by providing additional components besides the control components for the counterflow which produce a reversal of the usual counterflow to concurrent flow when a colored piece of wash is in the machine or the washing zone. For concurrent flow operation switchover of the valves permits the head of the washing liquid in the upstream compartment of the washing zone to cause the flow through this zone to the downstream compartment where the concurrent flow liquid is discharged.

Description

The invention relates to a countercurrent cycle washing machine with washing zones having a plurality of washing chambers.

Continuous washing lines are used to wash large quantities of laundry. In general, washing lines that work according to the flow method and, in particular, because of the economical water and energy consumption in countercurrent washing systems have become established. The washing drum, which can be driven to rotate about its longitudinal axis, is divided into a number of washing chambers, and several washing chambers are combined into washing zones, e.g. in a soaking zone, rinsing zone and a rinsing zone. The laundry item entered in the loading chamber cycles through the individual washing chambers and washing zones. At the end of the washing drum, fresh water is supplied, which at least partially flows through the washing drum in countercurrent to the laundry. This procedure is problem-free if only white laundry is washed in such a system.

The proportion of colored laundry (colored laundry), e.g. However, green or blue surgical linen, colored bed linen or table linen is already very large in the laundries and is still increasing.

However, if colored laundry and then white laundry are washed in a cycle washing machine, then color particles flow from the colored laundry to the white laundry and discolor them due to the countercurrent.

Since the discoloration of white laundry is not allowed to occur, the colored laundry is either washed in separate individual machines or in a "bath change wash line", which does not work in countercurrent. This means higher investment costs, since the bath-changing car wash is considerably more expensive than a counter-current car wash, and it means higher washing costs, since the consumption of these systems is considerably higher than that of a counter-current car wash.

If, because of these disadvantages, you still want to wash the colored laundry in a countercurrent car wash, then a large part of the subsequent wash chambers must be left empty in order to prevent the subsequent white laundry from becoming discolored.

In the case of strongly staining colored laundry, 60 - 70% of the compartments in a car wash usually have to be run dry.

This significantly reduces the performance of a car wash, while on the other hand it does not reduce consumption, because water, steam and detergent must continue to be fed even if there is no laundry in the chambers.

In order to avoid these empty chambers, it is proposed in DE-OS 29 49 228 to use a plurality of valves and bypass lines to divert the countercurrent around the washing chamber in which there is a batch of colored laundry. In principle, the countercurrent is maintained and only continuously eliminated for the wash chamber filled with colored laundry. It is obvious that an expensive and cumbersome control device is necessary for this.

The object of the invention is to wash colored laundry and white laundry in a countercurrent cycle washing machine with simple means, i.e. without the need for empty spaces.

This object is achieved in that the machine or individual washing zones are switched from counter-current operation to co-current operation (bath flow reversal) as long as there is a lot of bundle washing in the machine. The bath flow reversal is achieved with the means and measures specified in the claim.

In this way, the advantages of a countercurrent cycle washing machine have been combined with the advantages of a washing machine which operates according to the multi-lye process in such a way that the machine can be operated in one or the other process without great additional expenditure.

The invention is explained and illustrated below with reference to the drawing.

  • Fig. 2: die bei Mitstrombetrieb tätigen Organe.
They show schematically:
  • Fig. 1: the control elements and lines set in countercurrent operation.
  • Fig. 2: the organs operating in co-current operation.

The washing drum 1, which is divided into individual chambers, with the washing zones “soaking” 2, “rinsing” 3 and “rinsing” 4 is driven in rotation about its longitudinal axis, the items of laundry entered at 5 passing through the machine in a known manner and at the emptying end 6 into a downstream one Press are taken over. The wash liquor is usually conducted in countercurrent to the route of the laundry items, as shown in FIG. 1 for the area of the clear wash zone 3. The wash liquor is fed in at the end of the rinsing zone at 7 and discharged via the overflow 8 at the beginning of the rinsing zone. In order to be able to carry the wash liquor in the co-flow if required, a wash liquor inlet 9 is additionally provided at the beginning of the clear wash zone and a further overflow 10 is provided at the end of the clear wash zone, so that the wash liquor can also be carried out in the co-stream according to the arrow. The valves 11 and 12 are closed and the valves 13 and 14 are open. In countercurrent operation, the circuit is reversed as can be seen from the drawing in FIG. 1. The counter-current pump is switched off in the co-current mode.

The method illustrated as an exemplary embodiment for the area of the clear wash zone can also be used for the other wash zones or for the entire machine.
