Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for injecting fuel according to the preamble of the main claim.
- Devices of this type are described in EP-A-0 102 507 to be taken into account in accordance with Art. 54 (3) EPC. These devices have the advantage that braking of the spray jet due to the formation of negative pressure and jet deformation in the channel of the incandescent body can be avoided in practically all operating points of the internal combustion engine, so that the spray jets emerge from the channel with the desired geometry and without being braked at the maximum outflow rate.
- the air drawn into the duct heats up and penetrates into the peripheral zones of the spray jets, where, in contrast to the core zone, there are finer fuel droplets and, because of the smaller droplet density than in the jet core, there is a very favorable fuel-air ratio for ignition and combustion.
- heat is supplied to the edge zone of the spray jet, so that when the spray jet emerges into the combustion chamber, the cloud of droplets, steam and air surrounding the jet core ignites. Since this cloud represents only a small part of the total quantity in the spray jet, the generic glow device requires only relatively little heating energy to initiate the ignition.
- the penetration energy of the spray jet is not reduced, so that the spray jet with a burning jacket can spread unhindered in the combustion chamber.
- EP-A-0 102 507 already proposes to provide a heat shield between the injection nozzle and the incandescent body, which from case to case can also carry a metallic heat protection ring, which has an annular lip pressing against the end face of the injection nozzle Dissipation of heat is provided. This arrangement is not sufficient in all cases in order to avoid an undesirably excessive heating of the end of the injection nozzle on the combustion chamber side if the incandescent body radiates too much heat to the nozzle base.
- a fuel injection device with a glow element connected downstream of the injection nozzle which has a channel surrounded by heatable structures for the passage of the spray jets and is arranged in a channel-shaped combustion chamber into which an air channel opens laterally which the spray jets suck in fresh air from the cylinder.
- the arrangement according to the invention with the characterizing features of the main claim has the advantage that effective protection of the injection nozzle against overheating by the incandescent body can be achieved even in extreme cases with simple means.
- the electrical resistance with PTC characteristic increases with increasing temperature at the end of the injection nozzle, the heating current being increasingly throttled and a harmless limit temperature being regulated as a result.
- the heating element itself is protected against overload and its service life is increased.
- the disk-shaped resistance body acts as a mechanical shield for the injection nozzle against the heat radiation of the incandescent body.
- the electrical resistance can advantageously have an exponential course of the resistance value in the still permissible limit temperature range.
- the resistor acts to a certain extent as a switch, which switches the heating current on and off in accordance with the heat radiation directed against the injection nozzle.
- the permissible limit temperature can be maintained more precisely than with resistors whose resistance value changes continuously with the temperature.
- the injection nozzle 10 has a nozzle body 12 in which a valve seat 14 is formed and a valve needle 16 is slidably mounted. This has a sealing cone 18 which cooperates with the valve seat 14 and to which a throttle pin 20 connects, which plunges into a spray opening 22 in the nozzle body 12.
- the spray opening 22 opens out at the end face 24 of the injection nozzle facing the combustion chamber, which ends via a conical wall section 26 into the cylindrical outer surface of the nozzle body 12.
- the nozzle body 12 is clamped by a union nut 28 together with an intermediate washer 30, as usual, to a nozzle holder, which is no longer shown in the drawing, which has a connection for a fuel line and is provided on the inside with a chamber for receiving a closing spring which presses the valve needle 16 against the valve seat 14.
- the union nut 28 is adapted to the outer shape of the nozzle body 12 and is accordingly provided with a conical bore section 31.
- a fuel channel leads from the nozzle holder through the intermediate disk 30 into an annular groove 32 in the nozzle body 12, which is connected via an inlet bore 34 to a pressure chamber 36 in the nozzle body 12.
- the valve needle 16 In the area of the pressure chamber 36, the valve needle 16 has a pressure shoulder 38, on which the fuel pressure causes a force which counteracts the closing spring and displaces the valve needle in the opening direction.
- the injection nozzle 10 is followed by an incandescent body, designated as a whole by the reference number 40, which, as the central component, has an incandescent filament 42 which has a channel in its interior for the non-contact passage of the fuel spray jets.
- the incandescent filament 42 is surrounded by a metallic protective capsule 44, which is provided with a flange edge 46 and with lateral ventilation openings 48 in the jacket, and with a central through opening 50 in the bottom.
- the spray jets passing through the incandescent filament 42 suck in air from the combustion chamber of the machine via the ventilation openings as a result of the injector effect, which mixes in the incandescent filament 42 with the edge zones of the spray jets in the manner already described at the beginning.
- a disk-shaped electrical resistance body 52 Arranged between the injection nozzle 10 and the incandescent body 40 is a disk-shaped electrical resistance body 52 which is electrically connected in series with the incandescent filament 42 in the manner described in more detail below.
- the resistance body 52 consists of ceramic material, for example of BaTi0 3 , and is covered on both side surfaces with a ceramic fleece 54 or 56 so that contact with the union nut 28 and the flange 46 of the protective capsule 44 is avoided.
- the ceramic nonwovens 54 and 56 consist of an electrically non-conductive material, for. B. from A1 2 0 3 .
- the protective capsule 44 and the resistance body 52 are held together by a ring part 60 provided with a support shoulder 58 on the union nut 28.
- the ring part 60 is welded to the union nut 28 and a supply line 64 for the incandescent filament 42, which is contained in an insulating bush 62, is clamped pressure-tight between the two parts.
- the upstream of the insulating bushing 62 which is covered by an insulating jacket 66, is passed through a laterally open slot 68 in the union nut 28 and welded to the upper side surface of the resistance body 52 metallized on both sides.
- One end of the incandescent filament 42 is welded to the lower side surface of the resistance body 52, while its other end is connected to the metallic protective capsule 44 and is connected to ground via this, the ring part 60, the union nut 28 and the cylinder head.
- the resistance body 52 practically interrupts the heating current of the incandescent filament 42 simply by the heat radiation from the combustion chamber, so that the incandescent filament 42 is only switched on in the start phase.
- the resistance body 52 In addition to its control function, the resistance body 52 largely shields the end face 24 of the nozzle body 12 from the combustion chamber.
- the resistance body 52 thus performs two functions simultaneously in the selected exemplary embodiment, both of which serve one and the same task.
- This design also has the advantage that the resistance body 52 with the incandescent filament 42, the protective capsule 44 and the feed line 64 can be assembled into a prefabricated assembly prior to installation in the injection nozzle 10, thereby facilitating the assembly of the injection nozzle.
