In a process for the electrolytic galvanizing of steel, sulfuric acidic zinc electrolytes are used, which are characterized by a content of one or more oxygen acids of sulfur with an oxidation number of +5 to +1. Zinc coatings produced in this way result in uniform speck-free phosphate layers during the subsequent zinc phosphating. Sulfuric acid (H2SO3), sulfoxyl acid (H2SO2), dithionic acid (H2S2O4) and / or thiosulfuric acid (H2S2O3) in the form of the acids, salts and acid anhydrides are mentioned as suitable oxygen acids. The concentration of oxygen acids in the electrolyte should be 0.05 to 10 g / l, preferably 0.1 to 2 g / l.
Description
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur elektrolytischen Verzinkung von Stahl mittels schwefelsaurer, wäßriger Zink-ElektrolytlösungenThe invention relates to a method for the electrolytic galvanizing of steel by means of sulfuric acid, aqueous zinc electrolyte solutions
It is known to provide steel surfaces with a metallic zinc coating by cathodic switching in aqueous sulfuric zinc electrolytes. Steel surfaces treated in this way are characterized by a significantly improved corrosion resistance to weathering under the most diverse climatic conditions.
If an additional application of paints and similar coating materials is intended, it has proven to be advantageous to coat the zinc surfaces beforehand by treatment with an aqueous acid phosphating solution, in particular with a zinc phosphate solution with a phosphate layer. As a result, the adhesion and corrosion resistance of the Duplex + Lack duplex system are significantly increased compared to untreated painted zinc.
Weitere mögliche Zusätze sind u.a. The phosphating baths for zinc treatment contain, in particular, zinc and phosphate as components determining the layer formation. In addition, other cations such as nickel, copper, calcium, manganese and Alkali metal be present. To accelerate the layer formation, oxidizing agents, for example from the group nitrate, chlorate, nitrite, peroxide, organic nitro compounds, are also used. Other possible additives include fluoride, complex fluoride, chloride, organic polyhydroxycarboxylic acid, complex phosphates and surfactants. The baths are used in the immersion, spraying / immersion and spraying process at temperatures of typically 30 to 70 ° C. and treatment times of, for example, 0.5 to 5 minutes (EP-OS 69 950).
If electrolytic zinc surfaces are to be phosphated, which are contaminated by oil and fat films, the phosphating must be preceded by a usually alkaline aqueous degreasing. Between degreasing and phosphating is rinsed with water.
Following the phosphating, rinsing is carried out with water and then usually aftertreated with a passivating rinse.
After the application of the phosphating galvanized steel surfaces often small whitish specks observed on the uniform covering se P HOS phatschicht which prove to microscopic observation as Beizgrübchen with reasonable h äuften rim crystals. During the contact with the Ph os- phatierungslösung the zinc surface with increasing P covers hosphatierzeit practically completely with phosphate layer, but which remain for reasons still unknown individual points with a diameter of 0.1 to 1 mm, where the effective eiz- B of Phosphating solution continues. The high, eizgrübchen from the B-derived zinc ions offer leads on the edge of the pits in the precipitation of tertiary zinc phosphate, which like the rim of a crater grows up. During the subsequent painting, the specks mark as small elevations in the paint film and cause expensive sanding work.
Local corrosion of the zinc surface can also occur during the cleaning and rinsing processes. Especially when cleaning, crystal efflorescence occurs with an area-parallel expansion of several millimeters.
The possible formation of specks during cleaning as well as during phosphating can be prevented by special formulation of the treatment solutions. However, this way means a limitation of the range of variation for the composition of the treatment solutions and complicates optimizations that would be desirable to achieve other goals, for example to improve paint adhesion and corrosion protection. For this reason there is a need for galvanized surfaces which show the appearance of the speck formation less or not at all.
The object of the invention is to provide a method for electrolytic galvanizing which does not have the aforementioned disadvantages, in particular is not associated with the formation of specks mentioned in the subsequent treatment.
The object is achieved in that the method of the type mentioned according to the invention is designed in such a way that the galvanizing is carried out with an electrolytic solution which contains one or more sulfuric oxygen acids with a sulfur oxidation number of +5 to +1.
The oxidation number is understood to mean the charge that an atom (of sulfur) would have in the molecule if the molecule consisted exclusively of ions.
The term sulfuric acid zinc electrolyte solutions are understood to mean those electrolytes which have a pH below 5 and - in addition to zinc - have at least a considerable proportion of sulfate ions. Other anions that may be present, are Z .B. Chloride, acetate, citrate and boric acid. As further cations The electrolyte can contain, for example, ammonium, alkali, aluminum, iron, nickel, lead, antimony, tin, alkaline earth, which can be deliberately added to the electrolyte to influence its properties, or the anodes or other sources can be added accidentally or unintentionally via the make-up and top-up water get into this.
The electrolyte solutions are mostly used above room temperature and at cathode current densities between, for example, 1 and 100 A / dm 2 . The electrolysis is usually carried out until a zinc coating having a thickness between 2 and 15 / is deposited in order. The process is preferably used in a continuous pass for the galvanizing of steel strip. However, it can also be used for the treatment of drum and rack goods. Following the galvanizing, rinsing is carried out with water and, as a rule, post-treated with suitable agents to avoid the formation of white rust during storage and shipping, for example with aqueous oil emulsions. Galvanized strip is often lightly re-rolled to smooth the surface and / or to improve the drawing properties.
The oxygen acids of 1- to 5-valent sulfur to be used in the process according to the invention can be introduced into the electrolyte in the form of the acids, the salts or the acid anhydrides.
A preferred embodiment of the invention provides to carry out the zinc plating with an electrolytic solution, sulphurous as oxygen acid of sulfur acid (H 2 S0 3; Oxid.-number 4), sulfoxylic acid (H 2 SO 2; Oxid. number 2), dithionous Contains acid (H 2 S 2 O 4 ; oxide number 3) and / or thiosulfuric acid (H 2 S 2 0 3 ; oxide number 2) or salts or anhydrides thereof.
It is also advantageous to adjust the concentration of the sulfuric oxygen acids in the electrolyte to a value between 0.05 and 10 g / 1, preferably between 0.1 and 2.0 g / 1.
