Definitions
- the subject of the present invention is a device intended to facilitate the mounting and dismounting of the working wheels on machines for polishing stones or similar materials.
- Machines of this kind generally comprise one or more carriages, each equipped with a polishing head carrying several working wheels. These are removably mounted on the various rotary shafts of the polishing head.
- each grinding wheel is usually fixed, by gluing, on a support in the form of a plate which is itself capable of being fixed by screwing on one of the rotary shafts of a polishing head.
- FR-A 2,357,333 describes a grinding wheel device comprising a series of jaws, mounted tilting on a support fixed on the rotary shaft of a polishing head, and which are adapted to grip the upper end of a wheel.
- these jaws are controlled by a ring screwed onto their support and which is capable of ensuring the tightening of these on the upper end of a grinding wheel.
- means are provided elastically opening the tilting jaws when the clamping ring is brought into the released position.
- FR-A 2,484,889 describes a somewhat similar device.
- This comprises a series of elastic claws intended to grip the upper end of a grinding wheel, or more precisely the frustoconical collar of a plate attached to such a grinding wheel.
- These claws are carried by a support fixed on the rotary shaft of a polishing head and they normally tend to move apart in the open position.
- their tightening can be ensured by means of a movable control part, in the form of a crown, which is subjected to the action of a thrust spring.
- the present invention aims to achieve a very simple structure device which is designed to facilitate the assembly and disassembly operations of the different grinding wheels carried by a polishing head, by allowing simultaneous assembly or disassembly of all these wheels.
- the design of this device is such that it can allow complete automation of these operations.
- the mounting of the grinding wheels on a polishing head can be achieved by simple interlocking by force of the two coupling parts of the present device.
- the disassembly operation it can be carried out by blowing pressurized air between the two coupling parts, so as to cause their separation by expulsion from the elastic cup-shaped coupling part.
- Figures 6 to 9 are views in axial section of several other embodiments of the mounting device according to the invention.
- the polishing machine shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises a carriage 1 provided with a polishing head 2 equipped with a series of working wheels 3, for example six wheels. Each of these is fixed at the end of a rotary drive shaft 4.
- This tray is made of metal or other suitable rigid material.
- the second part 5, in the form of a bowl is made of a material of sufficient hardness, but which is at least partially elastic, for example, a material based on synthetic resin, so that it can be fitted onto the plate 6 by elastic deformation.
- the periphery of the plate 6 has a frustoconical shape and the wall 7 of the bowl-shaped part 5 has a similar profile, its section widening towards its bottom .
- the respective sections of this bowl are, at rest, with a surface slightly smaller than the corresponding sections of the plate 6 in order to obtain a perfect joining of these two parts when they are coupled to each other.
- this connection can be further increased by providing a knurling or any other appropriate relief on the lower surface 8 of the plate 6.
- a flare 9 is intended to facilitate the introduction of the plate. 6 inside of it.
- this plate may have a rounded or a chamfer 10 at its periphery.
- the second coupling part 5, cup-shaped is attached to the fixing face of the grinding wheel 3, and fixed against the latter by means of a crown 11 screwed onto this piece or on a socket 12 surrounding this piece and integral with it.
- This assembly crown has a frustoconical bearing which is applied against the frustoconical skirt 13 of a rubber base 14 fitted around the corresponding end of the grinding wheel 3.
- This arrangement makes it possible to recover the corresponding coupling part 5 after wear of the grinding wheel 3.
- this part in the form of a cup, may consist of a part 5a made permanently secured to the corresponding grinding wheel 3a during the manufacture of that -this. In such a case, this coupling part is obviously lost, when the grinding wheel is thrown away after wear.
- the bottom of the part 5 or 5a in the form of a bowl, has an axial channel 15 which opens out inside the bore 16 provided in the grinding wheel 3. At its opposite end, this channel opens out inside a recess 17 formed in the bottom of the bowl 5 and which is intended to constitute a pressure chamber during the uncoupling of the two parts 5 and 6, as will be explained below.
- the device according to the invention it is possible to simultaneously mount all the grinding wheels of the polishing head.
- these various grinding stones can be placed in advance on a plate 18 comprising a series of openings 19 corresponding to each of these grinding stones. The latter are then engaged in these openings and rest on top of the plate 18 by means of their crown 11, as shown in Figure 2.
- the location of the holes 19 corresponds to the position of the various drive shafts 4 existing on the polishing head. It suffices to produce a relative movement between the latter and the plate 18 to ensure the simultaneous coupling of all the coupling parts 5 of the grinding wheels on the different receiving platforms 6. This movement can be controlled by any appropriate means, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, etc.
- the channel 15, provided in the bottom of each part 5, in the form of a bowl, allows the escape of air which is then compressed between this part and the receiving plate 6.
- a polishing machine As shown in Figure 5, it is possible to equip a polishing machine with several plates such as the plate 18 already described. Each of them then serves as a storage magazine for a series of grinding wheels 3 of the same particle size which are on standby.
- a suitable control system makes it possible to bring the polishing head above the plate 18 on which are placed the grinding wheels to be mounted thereon. This same system then allows to bring this polishing head above of the same plate to abandon the corresponding wheels after completion of the work cycle involving the use thereof, after which the polishing head is brought above another store 18, and so on.
- the head can always be presented in the same place, this precise location being used for coupling and uncoupling the grinding wheels.
- an automated system will present the trays 18 at this location and ensure their storage.
- the main advantage of the device according to the invention lies in the ease and speed of the assembly and disassembly operations of the different grinding wheels equipping a polishing head. Despite the absence of any mechanical assembly means (such as keys, splines, etc.), the present device ensures perfect connection between each wheel and its drive shaft by adhesion between parts 5 and 6.
- the tapered shape of the drive plate 6 and of the bowl 5 avoids any risk of untimely dislocation during work.
- Another important advantage of the device according to the invention consists in that, by virtue of its design, it allows possible automation of all the operations necessary for the assembly and disassembly of all the grinding wheels equipping the same head. polishing.
- FIGS 6 to 9 show several other embodiments of the device according to the invention.
- the periphery of the plate 6b has a frustoconical shape and the interior space 7b, of the part 5b in the form of a bowl, has a similar profile, its section widening towards its bottom.
- this plate offers the particularity of comprising a peripheral flange 23 against which the edge of the part 5b in the form of a bowl bears when these two parts are coupled (see FIG. 6).
- This has the advantage of increasing the support diameter of this part, which gives it greater seating. Under these conditions, a rigorous respect is obtained for the angle of inclination provided for the grinding wheel 3b during its work, an angle which is determined by the arrangement in space of the axis of the rotary shaft 4b.
- the flange 23 of the plate 6b has the advantage of completely covering the deformable part 5b in the form of a bowl. This avoids the introduction of foreign bodies inside this room during work.
- the rigid plate 6b is provided with one or more projecting fingers 24 for coupling, while the bottom of the interior space 7b of the part 5b comprises as many blind holes 25 able to receive these fingers.
- these are mounted so as to be able to retract inside the plate 6b.
- they are slidably mounted on guide rods 26 carried by this tray and can be retracted inside cavities 27 of the latter.
- springs 28 tend to push these fingers back into the projecting position shown in FIG. 1.
- the present mounting device comprises a retractable member _ able to normally close the hole 15b provided in the center of the coupling piece 5b for blowing air by means of a nozzle 20, as described in the main patent .
- This shutter member 29 is slidably mounted on a guide rod 30 carried by the end of each rotary shaft 4b of a polishing head. The arrangement is such that this shutter member can retract inside a cavity 31 provided inside the end of this shaft.
- a spring 32 tends to bring this shutter member 29 into the projecting position shown in FIG. 1 and for which it is then located inside the hole 15b of the coupling part 5b in the form of a cup. In this position, this member therefore closes this hole and prevents the penetration of impurities or foreign bodies into the interior space 7b of the part 5b in the form of a bowl.
- the pressure chamber 17b formed between the bottom of the coupling part 5b and the corresponding face of the plate 6b, has an increased volume compared to to that provided in the embodiments previously described. This increase in volume results from the fact that this chamber extends over the entire surface of the bottom of the interior space 7b of the part 5b. This is made possible by the fact that it is no longer necessary to provide direct support from the bottom of this part against the receiving plate 6b, since these two parts are in direct support at the location of the flange 23 of this tray.
- the increase in volume of the chamber 17b has the advantage that one can obtain the uncoupling of the assembly part 5b with a lower pressure than in the case of the embodiments previously described.
- the coupling piece 5b is removably mounted on the corresponding grinding wheel by means of a crown 11b, as is the case in the embodiments according to FIGS. 2 and 3. Consequently the piece 5b coupling is recoverable when the wheel 3b is completely worn and can then be mounted on another identical wheel.
- the deformable coupling part 5b could just as easily be fixed permanently to the fixing face of the corresponding grinding wheel 3b.
- FIG. 7 shows an alternative embodiment of the mounting device according to the invention.
- a rigid receiving plate 6c is always provided which is fixed to the end of the corresponding rotary shaft 4c of a polishing head.
- the complementary coupling part 5c provided in this variant has another similar bowl 33 on its opposite face. This second bowl is fitted onto a rigid part 34 with the same profile provided on the fixing face of the corresponding grinding wheel 3c.
- the deformable coupling part 5c is in a way associated with two rigid plates capable of being coupled with the latter, so that it serves as an intermediary between the grinding wheel 3c and the corresponding rotary shaft 4c.
- Two pressure chambers 17c are then provided located at the bottom of the two bowls provided in part 5c. This makes it possible to dismantle both the grinding wheel 3c and the coupling part 5c with respect to the corresponding rotary shaft 4c and this, by blowing air by means of a nozzle 20 inside these two chambers.
- FIG. 8 represents another alternative embodiment in which the arrangement of the two coupling parts of the mounting device is reversed with respect to the arrangement provided in the embodiments shown in FIGS. 1 to 6.
- the deformable part d coupling 5d of the corresponding device is fixed to the end of the rotary shaft 4d of the polishing head of a polishing machine, while the corresponding rigid plate 6d, intended to be fitted into this part, is attached to the fixing face of a 3d grinding wheel.
- this plate includes a flange 23d, similar to the flange 23 provided in FIG. 1, so that the edge of the deformable part 5d comes to bear on it.
- a pressure chamber 17d is reserved between the plate 6d and the bottom of the bowl of the deformable part 5d.
- a hole 15d is provided in the center of the plate 6d to allow the injection of pressurized air inside this chamber in order to ensure the disassembly of the grinding wheel by expelling this plate outside the bowl of the Exhibit 5d.
- FIG. 9 represents yet another variant in which the cup-shaped coupling part 5e is also fixed to one of the rotary shafts 4e of a polishing head, while the rigid plate 6e, intended to be engaged in the interior of this part is attached to the fixing face of a 4th wheel.
- this variant differs from that of FIG. 8 by the fact that the body of the part 5e in the form of a bowl, is made of a rigid material and contains an annular lining 35 of an elastic material, which forms the internal wall of the bowl inside which the receiving plate 6e is forced into place. Under these conditions, it is this lining 35 which in a way constitutes the deformable cup serving as a housing for this plate, when the two coupling parts of this device are assembled with one another.
- this mounting device remains the same as before. Besides, it retains the same advantages.
