Description

The invention relates to an emergency hammer for breaking glass panes, which consists of a handle and a hammer head arranged thereon, which has a tip at one end.

Such an emergency hammer is known from DE-U-8 204 767.

In general, buses, but also rail-bound vehicles, are equipped with emergency hammers, which are used to create a way for the incarcerated persons to break the windows of the vehicle windows after traffic accidents in which the doors of the vehicle can no longer be opened to be able to get out of the vehicle this way. The emergency hammers are usually arranged on the posts separating the individual vehicle windows.

The known emergency hammer according to DE-U-8 204 767 has a T-shaped design, the length of the hammer head being adapted to the quite small post width. This means that the hammer head has only a slight projection to the handle on both the left and right, which has the disadvantage that it is practically not possible to break a disc with the known emergency hammer without using the hand holding the hammer handle on it bouncing shattering disk. This can result in very serious injuries.

The object of the present invention is to improve an emergency hammer of the generic type in such a way that the risk of hand injuries is considerably reduced.

According to the invention this object is achieved in that the hammer head is attached to the handle with its end region facing away from the tip or is connected to it in one piece, the hammer head projecting from the handle essentially only on one side, so that there is a relatively large projection between the handle and the tip results and wherein the hammer head is arranged in an obliquely upward orientation on the handle and that the handle on the side projecting from the hammer head carries a protective bracket made of dimensionally stable material for spanning a human hand grasping the handle.

The fact that the hammer head is arranged on the stem with its end region facing away from the tip results in a considerable enlargement of the hammer head protrusion from the stem, which already reduces the risk of hand injury because the knuckles cannot hit the window pane directly when breaking a window pane. Furthermore, it is of particular advantage that the hammer head is arranged on the handle in an orientation which extends obliquely upwards; because this measure keeps the knuckles even further away from the disc when the tip of the hammer head hits the disc to be broken. As tests have shown, the emergency hammer designed in accordance with the invention in this way is suitable for being effectively used by women or children. The measure according to the invention, to additionally protect the hand by a protective bracket arranged on the handle, optimizes the safety of use of the new emergency hammer, because when a pane is smashed, it is not the operator's hand but the protective bracket that collides with the pane or with the splinters. The emergency hammer according to the invention is therefore particularly advantageous if it has to be used for breaking multiple disks. Due to the one-sided enlargement of the overhang of the hammer head in relation to the handle and the omission of the overhang to the other side of the handle, the given installation conditions are also fully taken into account; because, according to this measure according to the invention, the hammer head need not have dimensions larger than those specified by the prior art.

It is advantageous if the tip of the hammer head protrudes further than the protective bracket from the handle, because this makes it very practical to use the emergency hammer.

The protective bracket preferably has a U-shaped configuration, the free leg ends of the protective bracket being fixed to the handle and the web of the bracket extending approximately parallel to the handle. The protective bar can expediently be formed in one piece and with the same material as the handle.

An embodiment of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing. Show it :
  • Figure 1 shows the emergency hammer in view.
  • Figure 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1 and
  • FIG. 3 shows a section EF according to FIG. 1.

The new emergency hammer consists of a handle 1 and a hammer head 2 arranged at the head end thereof. The hammer head 2 is preferably formed in one piece and with the same material as the handle 1 and is equipped with a tip 3 made of steel or the like. The hammer head 2 projects beyond the handle 1 essentially only on one side, so that there is a relatively large projection between the handle 1 and the hammer head tip 3. It is particularly worth mentioning that the hammer head 2 is arranged on the handle 1 in an orientation that extends obliquely upward with the tip 3. It has proven to be advantageous to provide an inclined position of approximately 15 degrees [as shown].

The handle 1 carries on its side dominated by the hammer head 2 a protective bracket 4 which is U-shaped and which consists of a web 5 and two legs 6, the free ends of which are preferably made in one piece and of the same material are connected to the handle 1. The (in the drawing) lower leg 6 ends with the free end of the stem, while the upper leg is arranged above the middle of the stem on the stem 1. The web 5 runs parallel to the stem 1. The opening 7 formed by the protective bracket is dimensioned such that it can also be penetrated by a larger human hand. The protective bracket has a smaller projection to the handle 1 than the hammer head 2 with tip 3.

Fig. 2 und 3) aufweist, die den Handrücken überspannt. Since the protective bracket 4 is intended to protect the human hand swinging the emergency hammer against injuries when breaking a window, it is essential that the protective bracket 4 has a relatively large width (cf. FIGS. 2 and 3) that spans the back of the hand. The width of the protective bracket 4 is substantially larger than that of the handle 1.

The new emergency hammer can advantageously consist of a single cast except for the tip 3 to be retrofitted, which can be both a metallic and a plastic material. It is of course also possible to overmold the tip 3, which should have a relatively high weight, with the material of the hammer head.

The handle 1 expediently has a profile formed by ribs 8 and grooves 9, whereby the grip is favored.
