Definitions
- the present invention relates to heat recuperators for wood fires in open fireplaces using heat transfer fluids.
- the technical problem posed is that of optimally recovering and restoring the energy released by a wood fire in an open hearth fireplace while preserving the aesthetics and characteristics of the fireplace.
- the ideal position is located above and as close as possible to the hearth fire in the fireplace, in the most visible part of the fireplace.
- the cauldron is provided with a handle to be hung on a rack.
- the essential virtues of a heat recovery boiler are to capture, channel, concentrate in its heart the heat, the flames, the combustion gases released by the wood fire in the hearth and restore this heat, without altering the aesthetics of the fireplace.
- the device according to the invention makes it possible to reconcile these technical and aesthetic imperatives while offering high performance. It has the particularity of being located directly above the fover at the very heart of the heat source and, together with the hearth fire, constitutes a real high-efficiency boiler.
- the boiler object of our invention has the following characteristics and advantages: it is an open hearth boiler using fluids as heat transfer agent. Internal combustion takes place in numerous combustion chambers, the conical shape of which, open downwards, has been retained to refine the combustion gases and hot fumes, forcing them to lick their internal wall, thus enhancing the combustion and increasing the caloric exchange.
- the bottom of the boiler is characterized by its parabolic shape, thus designed to capture, channel and concentrate the combustion gases, flames and hot fumes inside the boiler where the exchange takes place.
- the exchange is done by fluid according to a circuit forced by baffles through the whole body of the boiler around multiple combustion chambers which allows to obtain a large caloric surface compared to the diameter of the boiler.
- the combustion chambers open into a smoke collector located at the top of the boiler.
- the collector In its rear part, the collector is equipped with a drawing device with automatic adjustment by a spiral type thermostat which, when expanding, acts on the drawing key located above the device. This setting promotes rational fuel consumption.
- a manual position allows, thanks to the complete closure of the tirare, the use of the chimney in continuous fire.
- the upper part of the boiler constitutes an inspection hatch giving access to the automatic and manual drafting device, the smoke collector, the combustion chambers, an automatic vent valve and a safety valve.
- a suspension device integral with the boiler allows it to position itself automatically, as close as possible and directly below the heat source by gravity according to the evolution of the fire in the fireplace.
- This sliding suspension device is compensated by a spring which reduces the vertical pressure of the boiler on the logs. It conceals the connecting pipes. It includes an interlock which keeps the boiler in the high position for fuel supply to the hearth.
- An articulated bracket supports the sliding suspension device, secured to the boiler by its supply pipes. It is fixed to the back wall of the chimney in the upper part of the hood.
- the articulation of this bracket allows a lateral displacement of the boiler which offers the user the possibility of better following the horizontal evolution of the wood fire or clearing part of the hearth for other purposes (rotisserie, grill ...)
- These horizontal and vertical displacements of the boiler are possible because it is connected to the central heating circuit by means of flexible pipes tested under the conditions of heat and pressure.
- connection of these hoses is made by means of watertight hydraulic connections called rapid type; which allows instant removal and replacement of the boiler and its suspension device, providing the following advantages: clearing the fireplace for the use of a grill, rotisserie, sweeping, using the same boiler in various chimneys previously equipped with the same connection device (second homes)
- Figure 1 shows (1/4 section on the left side) the boiler according to the invention.
- Figure 2 shows (in perspective) the articulated bracket (21).
- Figure 3 shows (front view) the suspension device.
- Figure 4 shows (seen from below) the boiler according to the invention.
- Figure 5 shows (left view) the. complete device positioned in the hearth.
- Figure 6 shows (bottom view) the inspection hatch (4) (upper part of the boiler)
- Figure 1 shows the boiler characterized by the curved lateral body (12) whose specially studied shape offers the following particularity: the lower part the axis AB allows to recover the calories by exchange in contact with the flames, while the upper part to this axis restores these calories by radiation in the room.
- the boiler is suspended by its own cold (2) and hot (3) supply pipes, extended by hoses (17) and fittings (18), on a sliding device (fig. 3) fitted with a locking system (14) and a compensating spring (13), this device is hooked by a ring (15) to an articulated bracket (21) (fig. 2).
- the device according to the invention constitutes, with the hearth fire, a real boiler which covers and collects the vertical flames and combustion gases (9) around which the exchange with the fluid (10) takes place. forced by baffles (16) welded vertically between each combustion chamber.
- This boiler the body of which represents the shape of a pot, can be made of copper, the conductivity and radiation properties of which are excellent.
- the evacuation of the burnt gases is controlled by an automatic and manual adjustment wrench (fig. 5) closing the exhaust duct located in the upper part of the boiler on its rear side.
- the boiler was designed mobile by means of a sliding suspension (fig3) made of wrought iron with a spring (13) allowing to control the pressure of the boiler on the logs.
- a locking system (14) keeps the boiler in the high position for supplying fuel to the fire.
- the boiler is made integral with this device by the supply pipes, recommended in brass, and fixed by flanges on the back of the device which conceals them.
- An articulated bracket (fig. 2) fixed to the back wall of the chimney by means of two screws to which the boiler suspension device assembly is hung, allows lateral movement of the boiler.
- the assembly can be removed instantly by means of quick hydraulic couplings (18).
- the technical characteristics of the device according to the invention make it a full-fledged high performance boiler justifying its use as a main boiler. It can also be used as a replacement for an existing boiler.
- the high temperatures obtained inside the combustion chambers mean that the boiler is self-cleaning and does not require any maintenance.
- the design of the boiler allows it to operate as a thermosiphon, however, its high efficiency justifies the use of a circulator. Domestic hot water is obtained from a tank independent of the device according to the invention.
- the preferential external technical embodiments of the body of the boiler are those which were retained by our ancestors for the utensils to be suspended above the fire of chimneys namely pots, hassines, salmon-boilers, kettle, basin, etc ...
- the technical part of the invention is completely concealed and easy to install and connect. It is carried out without any modification (no visible pipe, drilling only 2 holes ⁇ 30 mm in the chimney flue for connection to the installation and fixing of the bracket in the upper part of the hood by two screws) and leaves no in fact appear as a form of utensil naturally having its place in a fireplace.
- this recuperator boiler is suitable for any type of open fireplace and in particular for fireplaces from times and styles.
