Description

The invention relates to a contact apparatus for contacting electrical cable conductors with busbars, which essentially consists of an open-ended insulating housing and at least one broad-area connection lug arranged therein, the latter having a pair of spring-loaded contact fingers at one end and with a clamping lug contacting bracket of the cable conductor is equipped at its other end.

Such a contact apparatus can be found in EP-A-0 012 455 and is also already used in corresponding systems. In this known contact apparatus, a separate holding element is used, which causes the connection lug to be held in its housing in a manner which is at most slightly displaceable. The handling of this holding element is simple, but it is a separate part, which can easily fall down during assembly and can also be lost in the process. In addition, the risk that this holding element can slip out due to vibrations, for example during transport, cannot be completely ruled out.

The object of the present invention is to further simplify the assembly of the contact apparatus and to avoid the risk of improper mounting of the terminal lug inside its insulating material housing. It is also desirable to provide a contact apparatus which, if necessary, can also be subjected to higher current loads without significantly increasing the size of the connecting lugs, because then the bendability of the contact finger pairs to be plugged onto the busbars becomes critical.

The solution of the first-mentioned object is achieved according to the invention in that in a wall running approximately parallel to the broad sides of the connecting lug of the tsbtierstoffgehäuses a flap is formed transversely to the direction of insertion of the connecting lug, which is provided on its freely resilient end region with at least one locking lug, which in turn engages behind an edge of a recess in the connecting lug - preventing its return - and furthermore that the connecting lug has a projection on at least one of its narrow sides, which, in the inserted and latched position of the connecting lug in the insulating housing, abuts a housing projection projecting into the housing interior and thus prevents an insertion movement of the terminal lug beyond the latching position.

There is therefore no need for an additional holding element for the connecting lug within its insulating material housing, which not only prevents loss of this holding element, but also completely prevents the danger of the holding element sliding out unintentionally. According to an advantageous proposal, the freely resilient end of the resilient tab can also be at least slightly tapered compared to its remaining thickness, and the rest of the catch can be located before this tapering begins. This tapering of the outermost free end of the tab offers easy releasability of the terminal lug, by means of a simple knife or screwdriver, i.e. using a simple or even provisional tool.

Further advantageous design options first deal with the design of the connecting lug. For example, it is proposed to provide the terminal lug with a projection on each of its two narrow sides, both of which abut corresponding housing projections in the position of the terminal lug inserted into the insulating housing and locked therein. This can prevent the terminal lug from slanting when it is plugged onto a busbar and also significantly reduces the load on the individual housing projection.

Furthermore, it is proposed to form the projections on the connecting lugs by notching their narrow-side edge regions which advance during the insertion process, which at the same time accommodates the deflectability of the respective pair of contact fingers.

As for the recess in the connecting lug for receiving the latching lug emanating from the resilient tab, it is proposed to arrange it in the area between the pair of contact fingers and the clamping lug and to form it as a completely closed rectangular opening with a clearly uneven aspect ratio, the longitudinal course of the recess being transverse should be located to the direction of insertion of the terminal lug. Such and such a recess provides a comparatively wide support edge for a wide or, for example, two narrower, side-by-side locking lugs, with the result that their load is not excessively large, particularly when the terminal lug is being plugged onto a busbar.

Further advantageous design options relate to the insulating material housing. First of all, it is proposed that the insulating housing of the contact apparatus with regard to the most important inner contours as an approximately tubular part with a longitudinal wall part that divides the pipe cross section in the area of the insertion end for the connecting lug form, from which two cross-sectionally extending, resiliently bendable tabs with latching lugs arranged at their free ends extend; in this case, each of the tabs serves to hold one of two connecting lugs opposite one another in mirror image with their broad sides. According to this proposed construction, two connection lugs can be arranged within one and the same insulating material housing, whereby - at least when the cable conductors are connected in parallel - the current carrying capacity of the contact apparatus is practically doubled. Such a constructive solution achieves the desirable goal of a higher current carrying capacity of a contact apparatus, the size of the connecting lugs not being increased, but the number being doubled. However, if such a current load does not occur, the individual cable conductors can serve different supply lines, which still brings the advantage of saving space.

A particularly advantageous design can be seen in the proposal to offset at least slightly in the latter construction with two tabs, the free ends and the catches of which in the insertion direction of the connecting lug, and the offset should be of the order of 3 to 6 mm. This makes it much easier to plug the contact apparatus onto a busbar, since it is now not necessary to expand both pairs of contact fingers to the width of the busbar at the same time (which requires an increased insertion force), but this is done specifically in succession.

First and foremost, to improve the mounting of the terminal lug within the insulating material housing and to simplify the assembly process, the proposal is to provide ribs directed from the insulating material housing into the interior of the housing or instead to emboss grooves in the walls of the insulating material housing which adjoin the lateral edges of the connecting lugs to be accommodated. In this case, according to a supplementary design suggestion, the housing protrusion can be provided at the ends of the respective rib or said groove (always seen in the direction of insertion) against which the associated protrusion of the connecting lug, which prevents its further insertion, strikes. If such a housing projection is combined with the adjacent rib in terms of material, there is a particularly favorable value with regard to the load-bearing capacity of the housing projection. The risk of a housing projection of this type breaking off is thus practically excluded even when the impact load is not intended as such.

A very useful for certain needs, but more different from the aforementioned design proposals design of an insulating housing for a contact apparatus of the type in question can be seen in giving the said housing a box-like shape, of which a single or multi-channel connector for receiving one or more terminal lugs lying one by one with the narrow sides or one or more terminal lugs arranged in pairs next to one another. According to a supplementary proposal, a resilient tab formed on a channel wall or a transverse wall with at least one latching lug can be arranged on the freely resilient end region within the or each channel of the single-channel or multi-channel connector, whereby it is provided that insert a connection lug within each channel and lock it using the latch. Instead, it is - according to another proposed addition - also possible to form a transverse web within or within each channel of the single-channel or multi-channel connector, from which two cross-sectionally forked, resiliently bendable tabs with latching lugs arranged at their free ends start ; in this case, each of the tabs serves to hold one of two connecting lugs opposite one another in mirror image with their broad sides. A construction, as expressed in the last-mentioned proposals, represents, put simply, a kind of multiple plug device which makes use of the features according to the invention. A major advantage of such multi-pole contact apparatuses is the space saving and, ultimately, material savings, with the advantage of a single, very stable insulating material housing for a multi-pole contact apparatus.

Appropriate further training on insulating material housings of both the last and the aforementioned basic training aim at the fastening technology of such housings. For example, it is proposed to form means on the respective insulating material housing in the form of tabs or indentations provided with fastening openings or fastening slots, or in the form of latching noses or the like, which serve to receive and fasten the insulating material housing on supporting walls, scaffolding or device racks.

Instead of or in addition to the means just mentioned, as a further advantageous suggestion, means for connection to adjacent insulating material housings of the same design can also be formed on the insulating material housing, in particular inclined projections, which allow a plug connection of adjacent insulating material housings according to the known dovetail principle. Comparable means and forms can be found in the aforementioned EP-A-0 012 455 and therefore no longer new per se, not even for contact devices of the particular genre in question here.

A particularly well-designed, and at the same time very essential, training option for contact apparatuses in accordance with the present invention can be seen in the proposed idea of designing the insulating housing for receiving one or more connecting lugs as a molded-on component of an insulating part, the latter being of a greater dimension than it is for accommodating the provided connecting lugs is required, and which serves other functions, namely in particular as a slide-in wall, as a frame wall for slide-in cabinets, as a device housing or the like. In other words: Instead of assigning inserts, device housings, frame walls or cabinet parts to one or more separate contact devices, these contact devices can also be directly attached to large-area insulating material parts, in the sense of being molded onto these insulating material parts. Of course, such a procedure only makes sense if there are appropriate quantities, but if this is the case, the advantages of integrating insulating material housings for contact devices in parts with other functions are obvious: there are no special connections required, the number of mounting parts is significantly reduced and, in addition, those wall parts which serve as an insulating material housing for the contact apparatus can stiffen the respective total insulating material part and improve its space utilization. Incidentally, a larger part of the insulating material, as has just been described, may have several housing areas, possibly also arranged in groups, to form contact apparatuses and thus to accommodate terminal lugs.

Finally, it is proposed that the insulating device serving the contact apparatus, regardless of whether it is a single-pole or multi-pole separate contact apparatus or a construction as mentioned last, on its end surrounding the contact finger pairs of the connecting lugs on opposite walls with slot-like walls To provide recesses which are in the same direction as the slots formed between the pairs of contact fingers, but are at least slightly wider than these slots, and permit a continuous straight course of busbars to be contacted with the terminal lugs. This has the advantage that the contact point between the busbar and the terminal lug to be plugged on is largely surrounded by the housing in a protective manner.

In numerous figurative representations, exemplary embodiments for realizing the inventive idea as well as possible uses of the subject matter of the invention are illustrated. On the basis of these representations and the following description, the idea of the invention and its advantageous training possibilities are to be explained and clarified again.

As can be seen, this terminal lug 2 has a pair of contact fingers 3 and 4 at its end pointing to the right in the illustration, and at its opposite end an originally flat and jagged terminal lug 5, which is now clawed to the cable conductor 1, by means of a cable-shaped spring clip 6, the contact fingers 3 and 4 are pressed towards one another, the free ends of the spring clip 6 engaging on webs 7 and 8 which are bent out toward the viewer. Similar connecting lugs are already known, but this connecting lug 2 additionally has two characteristic features, namely projections 9 and 10 on their narrow sides, and a rectangular opening 11 with a clearly unequal aspect ratio, the longitudinal profile of this rectangular opening 11 being transverse to the longitudinal extension or also to the direction of insertion the terminal lug 2 is located. The projections 9 and 10 just mentioned are created by notching in the area of the contact fingers 3 and 4. Finally, it should be mentioned that the slit 12 and an elongated hole 13 in the connecting lug 2 Bendability of the contact fingers 3 and 4 is improved or facilitated.

In Figure 2, a portion of an insulating housing 14 is shown cut open, and that is equipped with the connecting lug 2 shown separately in Fig. 1. It should also be noted that this connecting lug 2 is plugged onto a busbar 15, the rectangular cross-section of which - hatched - can be seen . Furthermore, it can be seen from this illustration that the projections 9 and 10 on the terminal lug 2 abut housing projections 16 and 17 projecting into the interior of the insulating material housing 14, so that further insertion of the terminal lug 2 into the insulating material housing 14 is prevented. In addition, the adjoining the projections 9 and 10 edge areas of the terminal lug 2 to ribs 18 and 19 also directed into the interior of the insulating housing 14, the latter of the terminal lug 2 initially serving as an insertion aid and then for fixing the position. These ribs 18 and 19 merge in a region of the insulating material housing 14 which can be seen further to the left in a wall part 20 which to a certain extent divides the approximately tubular interior of the insulating material housing 14 in this region. From this wall part 20, two tabs with a fork-like cross-section and resiliently bendable emanate, of which only the one with the number 21 can be seen in FIG. 2. The individual representations in FIG. 3 illustrate sections corresponding to the indicated section 111-111 in FIG. 2 and now, in addition to the already mentioned tab 21, also reveal the second tab 22 opposite it. Looking at FIG. 3a, in addition to the two tabs 21 and 22, one finds here the wall part 20 as well as the housing projection 16 and the rib 18 starting from this housing projection 16 or molded together with it. Approximately opposite, if somewhat in the longitudinal direction moved, a further housing projection 23 and a rib 24 corresponding to the rib 18 can be seen. It should also be mentioned that further ribs 25 and 26 extend from the housing projection 16 as well as from the housing projection 23, which ultimately serve the same purpose as the aforementioned ribs 18, 19 and - underneath - 24. All of these ribs serve - as already mentioned - the leadership of the terminal lug 2 and finally their position.

The formation of the already mentioned tabs 21 and 22 is very important, because they each have a latching cam 27 or 28 in the region of their freely resilient end and finally end in a slight taper 29 and 30. This latching cam 27 on the tab 21 causes Inserting the terminal lug 2 in the direction of arrow 31 (indicated in FIG. 3a on the left of the insulating material housing 14) firstly a bending of the tab 21, as is indicated in FIG. 3b. A further insertion of the terminal lug 2 finally leads to its latching with the latching cam 27, which snaps into the rectangular opening 11 already mentioned in the terminal lug 2, which is illustrated in FIG. 3c. This Figure 3c also shows the final assembled position of the terminal lug 2, which due to its stop on the housing projections 16 and 17 (see Fig. 2) can not be inserted further than shown, but which also, due to the latching of the locking cam 27, not can be traced back. A return of the terminal lug 2 is still possible, namely by gripping behind the taper 29 with a simple tool, for example with a knife or a screwdriver, the tab 21 is bent into the position shown in FIG. 3b and the terminal lug 2 is pushed back becomes. In this insulating housing 14, which is provided with two tabs 21 and 22, two connecting lugs can now be arranged, which is indicated in FIG. 3d. The connection lug 2, which can again be seen here, has thus already assumed and maintained its position as shown in FIG. 3c, a further connection lug 32 can be seen in its not yet fully inserted position, the second tab 22 now bending with its latching cam 28. Upon further insertion of the connecting lug 32, as with the connecting lug 2, the locking cam 28 will engage in a rectangular opening 33 of the connecting lug 32 and thus fulfill the holding and locking function already described. It is worth mentioning that the connecting lug 32 can be inserted a little deeper into the insulating housing 14, because of the somewhat longitudinally displaced position of the housing projection 23 and the locking cam 28.

This makes it easier to plug the contact apparatus onto a busbar (15).

So much for the formation of the connecting lugs as well as for their engagement and fixing in position in the insulating material housings of contact devices. The following explanations now refer to the design options for insulating material housings for contact devices of the type in question.

Im übrigen sind auch hier ins Innere des Isolierstoffgehäuses 34 vorstehende Gehäusevorsprünge 40 und 41 ausgeformt, welche als Anschläge für die aufzunehmenden Anschlußfahnen dienen.FIG. 4 illustrates in a longitudinal section an insulating material housing 34, which could roughly correspond to the one as indicated in FIGS. 2 and 3a to 3d. It has an essentially tubular shape, the insertion area for two connecting lugs pointing to the left in the illustration being in turn penetrated by a wall part 35. Tabs 36 and 37 extend from this wall part 35 and run in a fork-like manner to one another in the cross section shown. Each of these tabs 36 and 37 is with a locking cam 38 and 39 provided, the meaning and function of which has already been explained in detail in connection with the individual representations of FIGS. It may also be worth mentioning that the tab 37 is longer than the other tab 36, and the locking cam 39 is also offset from the opposite locking cam 38. As a result, as already mentioned at the beginning and also just mentioned, a slightly shifted position of the connecting lugs to be accommodated is achieved, which makes it easier when the connecting lugs are plugged onto busbars. Incidentally, here also protruding housing projections 40 and 41 are formed in the interior of the insulating housing 34, which serve as stops for the terminal lugs to be received.

Worth mentioning here are externally formed inclined projections 42 and 43 on one side and further, but oppositely inclined projections 44 and 45, which serve to accommodate identical insulating housings to be attached adjacent, and this works afterwards the well-known dovetail principle. It can also be seen in this illustration that the end of the insulating material housing 34 which points towards the right in the illustration has recesses 46 and 47 (see also FIG. 4) which serve for the passage of current busbars, or in other words: are necessary when one - As happened in the present case - the insulating housing 34 would like to protect around the ends of the terminal lugs to be contacted with the busbars to be accommodated.

Recognizable here inside the wall part 35 with the tab 36 extending therefrom, further the housing projection 40 and a further housing projection 48, the recess 47 and ribs 49 and 50 not previously mentioned for guiding and fixing the position of a connecting lug. Otherwise, the oblique projections 42 to 45, the meaning of which has already been explained, can also be seen in this sectional illustration.

A section VII-VII, the course of which is indicated in FIG. 5, is illustrated in FIG. 7. The wall part 35 and its course, which have already been mentioned, can be seen better here, and this sectional view on the insulating housing 34 furthermore illustrates molded-on means for housing fastening, namely these means are in the form of fastening tabs 53 and 54 provided with fastening slots 51 and 52.

Hier sind die Befestigungslappen 53 und 54 von ihrer anderen Seite her erkennbar, im übrigen noch einmal das Wandungsteil 35 sowie die zueinander ausbiegbaren Laschen 36 und 37.FIG. 8 illustrates a view of the insulating material housing 34 that is made in the opposite direction to the sectional view just mentioned, that is to say a side view of the illustration in FIG. 5. Here, the fastening tabs 53 and 54 can be seen from their other side, and the wall part again for the rest 35 and the mutually bendable tabs 36 and 37.

Eine entgegengesetzte Ansicht (Ansicht A gemäß Pfeil A in Fig. 6) zeigt die Figur 9, welche keiner weiteren Erläuterungen bedarf, ausgenommen den Hinweis auf die bezifferten Ausnehmungen 46 und 47.FIG. 9 shows an opposite view (view A according to arrow A in FIG. 6), which requires no further explanation, except for the reference to the numbered recesses 46 and 47.

An insulating material housing such as the one just described (34) can accommodate two connection lugs according to FIG. 1, and, as already said, in the manner in which this can be seen from FIGS. 2 and 3a to 3d.

A differently designed insulating material housing 55 is shown in FIGS. 10 to 12. In contrast to the previously explained housing, as can best be seen from the sectional view in FIG. 11, this first has a box-shaped area 56, from which a multi-channel connecting piece 57 now emanates. This multi-channel connecting piece 57 contains three channels 58 to 60 which are closed off on the side, which in turn can be seen from FIG. 10 and the sectional view in FIG. 11. It is essential here that each of the channels 58 to 60 has a raised wall 61, from each of which a tab 62 (see FIG. 11) extends. This particular area within each of the channels 58 through 60 is shown again on an enlarged scale in FIG. A part of said raised wall 61 and the tab 62, which in turn is also equipped here with a latching cam 63, can be seen here. It can be seen that this tab 62 also corresponds in terms of its design and position to those tabs as have been shown in the exemplary embodiments explained above, and it also has the same task: namely to latch a connecting lug not indicated in these representations and to hold it in place Fix location. Here again ribs 64 and housing projections 65 also cooperate. Introduction and fixation of terminal lugs, which can practically correspond to those shown in FIG. 1, require no further explanation. All that is said is that instead of a paired arrangement of terminal lugs, only one terminal lug can be arranged in this insulating material housing 55 in each of the channels 58 to 60 mentioned. Incidentally, this insulating material housing 55 is also provided with fastening means 66 and 67 in the form of molded ears and threaded bushings contained therein. However, the paired arrangement of connecting lugs can also be realized with appropriate design of the wall parts and paired tabs 62.

FIG. 14 shows a rear wall, broken out in the middle, of a slide-in unit for a control cabinet or the like, insulating housing for contact apparatuses being molded on at the same time.

The insulating material housings for the individual contact devices are therefore ultimately a material component of the slide-in rear wall, designated by the way with the number 68. It can be seen that three channel-like housing areas 69, 70 and 71 are integrally formed on the side pointing to the right in FIG. 14, and also further channel-like housing areas 72, 73 and 74. The sectional views in FIGS. 15 and 16, the section of which can be seen from FIG. 14, illustrate the design of the channel-like housing areas 69, 70 and 71, the sectional view in FIG. 17, however, shows a section through the channel-like housing area 72 on the underside of the insert rear wall 68. The last-mentioned FIG. 17 is shown on an enlarged scale compared to the representations according to FIGS. 14 to 16, in order to make the design more recognizable. Visible here is a wall part 75 with tongues 76 and 77 extending therefrom, which can be sprung out from one another and which are each provided with a locking cam 78 and 79 in a manner which is now known. The same pairs of tabs, as can be seen, for example, in FIG. 15, are also present in the other housing regions 69 to 71 and 73 and 74, which are designed like channels. The sense and purpose of these tabs correspond to those in the previously explained exemplary embodiments, they also serve here for the latching reception and positional fixing of connecting tabs (not shown) of the type described.

Figure 18 is used for a better understanding of the function of a slide-in rear wall 68 designed in this way and provided with molded housing areas for contact apparatus. Here, in an exploded view, there is a high slide-in device with (as far as the essential parts are concerned) a front wall 80, side walls 81 and 82, further connecting and supporting parts (not numbered) and finally shown with two insertion rear walls 83 and 84. These slide-in rear walls 83 and 84 correspond to that (68) shown in FIGS. 14 to 17 inclusive. The housing areas 85 and 86 serving the contact apparatus can be seen here, which, to say it again, are part of the insert rear walls 83 and 84 made of insulating material. Instead of such slide-in rear walls, in order to mention such an application for contact devices, other parts without correspondingly shaped housing areas for contact devices should also be used, individual contact devices, for example those according to FIGS. 4 to 9 or others according to FIGS. 10 to 12 , can be attached to these slide-in rear panels. The latter is of course more complex since additional fastening measures are required, but such a procedure is necessary and also economical if the number and positioning of contact devices cannot be foreseen or recognized from the outset.
