Abstract

A method of shrinking a shrinkable hood (7) which is drawn over a stack of goods (3), in particular a palletized stack of goods, and is secured with its free opening edge (8) on the lower end of the stack of goods (3) or on the pallet (4) and is then acted upon with heat energy from the outside, characterized in that the space enclosed by the shrinkable hood (7) is subjected to overpressure until the shrinkable hood (7) bulges out, the overpressure being less than the shrinkage tension to be expected, and the shrinkable hood (7) is then acted upon with heat energy from the outside while maintaining the overpressure.
2. A method according to Claim 1, characterized in that the free opening edge (8) of the shrinkable hood (7) is secured below the pallet (4), and an air jet (16) is blown against the underside of the pallet (4).
3. A method according to Claim 2, characterized in that the free opening edge (8) of the shrinkable hood (7) is gripped between the underside of the pallet (4) and the tracks of a chain conveyor (1).
4. A method according to any one of Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the heat energy is supplied by a hot-gas jet.
5. A method according to any one of Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the supply of heat energy is reduced in the region of the edges of the stack of goods (3).
6. An apparatus for performing the method according to any one of Claims 1 to 5, with a chain conveyor (1) [and] a hot-gas mast (10, 13) disposed in the region of the chain conveyor (1), characterized in that a blower is disposed in the region of the hot-gas mast (10, 13) and below the conveying plane of the chain conveyor (1) and is constructed as a pressure blower with a blower jet (16) directed onto the conveying plane (2).
