Polstermöbel sollen einerseits eine bequeme Sitzgelegenheit bilden und andererseits trotz ihrer hierzu erforderlichen voluminösen Bauweise den vorhandenen Platz möglichst günstig ausnützen. Wenn aber ein solches Polstermöbel, das gewöhnlich mit bestimmten Abmessungen unabhängig von den jeweiligen Platzbedingungen hergestellt wird, keine gute Platzausnützung ermöglicht, behilft man sich in den meisten Fällen damit, dass man Einheiten von Polstersitzen, die jeweils einem einzigen Sitzplatz entsprechen, zu einem Sitzmöbel zusammenstellt. Ganz abgesehen davon, dass diese Lösung verhältnismässig aufwendig ist, denn jede Einheit muss alle Teile aufweisen, damit sie auch für sich allein aufgestellt werden kann, bleibt der Nachteil der mit im voraus festgelegten Dimensionen hergestellten Einheit bestehen. Dies bedeutet, dass es auch mit solchen Einheiten nicht möglich ist, die in jedem Einzelfall vorkommenden Platzverhältnisse optimal auszunützen. Selbstverständlich kann für den Einzelfall eine optimale Anpassung an die Platzverhältnisse durch eine Einzelanfertigung erreicht werden, doch ist diese Lösung kostenmässig noch ungünstiger. Zudem bleibt offen, ob eine solche Lösung nicht in einem spätern Anwendungsfall wieder eine ungünstige Lösung darstellt, da sie ja ebenfalls eine Anpassung an andere Platzverhältnisse nicht, oder eine solche Anpassung nur mit entsprechend aufwendigen Aenderungsarbeiten ermöglicht.
