Description

The invention relates to a device for feeding a sewing machine, according to the first part of claim 1.

In sewing machines, it is known to provide a gear mechanism which converts a rotary movement into a reciprocating movement which can be set from a maximum value to zero, in order to enable the sewing material to be automatically advanced by a predetermined amount after each stitch. This material feed is not a continuous feed, but only takes place in the time range in which the needle is outside the material. For this reason, such gear devices almost always perform a step-by-step movement that is transferred to the material to be sewn.

The transfer to the sewing material can take place in different ways. Known, for example, is the so-called roller transport, in which the sewing material is additionally drawn off by a pair of rollers, which, viewed in the sewing direction, are arranged behind the needle and are inevitably driven by the aforementioned gear device.

In the known transmission device (US-A-4108 094) a continuously driven crank transmission is used, the crank pin of which is provided with an adjustable crank radius. The connecting rod mounted on the crank pin transmits the double stroke movement per revolution to the drive shaft via a freewheel, so that the output shaft only moves during the one stroke.

A disadvantage of this gear device is that the crank radius of the crank pin must be adjusted while the crank pin is at a standstill, the housing of the gear device being open in each case and the new setting of the crank radius having to be carried out using appropriate tools. This setting can therefore not be carried out by the person operating the sewing machine, but a trained person must be consulted.

This is where the invention comes in, which is based on the object of designing a device of the type described in the introduction in such a way that the crank radius, which is decisive for the size of the material feed, can be adjusted without opening the gear housing and without tools by simple operation from the outside.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the features as specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.

The invention is shown in the drawing in some exemplary embodiments and described below. Show it:
  • 1 is a kinematic replacement image in a spatial representation of a gear device with a crank gear for the material feed of a sewing machine,
  • 2 shows a longitudinal section of the adjusting part for adjusting the crank radius of the crank mechanism used in the transmission device according to FIG. 1,
  • Fig. 3 shows a section through the adjusting part and the crank mechanism along the line 111-111 in Fig. 2 and
  • 4 is a side view, partly in section, of the adjustable crank arm of the crank mechanism from the direction IV in FIG. 3.

With the crank arms 4, 5, a crank pin 6 is connected, on which a connecting rod 7 is mounted. The double arrow 8 represents the possibility of adjusting the radius of the crank pin 6. The connecting rod 7 is articulated via a joint 9 to a freewheel 10 which is mounted on an output shaft 11. The double arrow 12 represents the back and forth movement of the output shaft 11, which is achieved by the described gear device during a rotary movement of the drive shaft 13 lying in the axis of rotation 3.

The drive shaft 13 is mounted in bearings 14, 15 fixed to the housing and the output shaft 11 in bearings 16, 17 also fixed to the housing. The entire gear adjustment is accommodated in a housing, not shown, which is arranged, for example, on the arm stand of a sewing machine and is driven by the sewing machine motor via a toothed belt drive. A pair of rollers, for example arranged behind the needle, is driven by the output shaft 11 via corresponding transmission members.

The connecting rod 7 with the freewheel 10 and the output shaft 11 are not connected to the present invention and are therefore not explained in detail.

The adjustment part shown in FIG. 2 comprises the adjustable crank arm 4, which is composed of a crank arm 18 and a guide flange 19. The guide flange 19 is connected to a bearing pin 20 which is mounted in a flange bushing 23 by means of two roller bearings 21, 22, which in turn is fastened in a housing wall 25 by screws 24. The screws 24 are also used to hold a cover 26 which has a threaded bore 28 for screwing in a threaded pin 29. The threaded pin 29 can be actuated by a grip sleeve 30 which is connected to the threaded pin 29 by means of a bolt 31 and a screw 32. A snap ring 33 limits the stroke of the threaded pin 29. An adjusting bolt 34 is supported on the threaded pin 29, which penetrates the bearing pin 20 and the guide flange 19 and projects into a recess 35 in the crank arm 18 until it bears against an inclined surface 36 of the recess 35 supports. As can be seen from FIG. 2, the adjusting bolt 34 projects into the recess 35 with a ball 37, however, the adjusting bolt 34 and the ball 37 could consist of one piece, the ball 37 forming the front part of the adjusting bolt 34.

The crank arm 18 is displaced between two side webs 38 of the guide flange 19 bar guided, with flange webs 40 being fastened by means of screws 39 on the side webs 38 and preventing the crank arm 18 from falling out of the side webs 38. The crank pin 6 is firmly connected to the crank arm 18.

In the plane between the guide flange 19 and the crank arm 18, a recess 41, 42 is arranged on each side of the recess 35. These two recesses 41, 42 are, see FIG. 4, inclined to this plane. The recesses 41, 42 are therefore both in the guide flange 9 and in the crank arm 18 and receive a compression spring 43. According to the arrangement of the recesses 41, 42, one end of the compression spring 43 is supported on the crank arm 18 and the other end on the guide flange 19. The two compression springs 43 attempt to remove the crank pin 6 from the axis of rotation 3, but are prevented from doing so by the ball 37 of the adjusting bolt 34.

In Fig. 3, the crank arms 4, 5 assume the position that corresponds to the greatest distance of the crank pin 6 from the axis of rotation 3 of the drive shaft 13. The ball 37 is most retracted and only partially protrudes into the recess 35. As can be seen from FIG. 2, the threaded pin 29 is in the outermost position. So that the ball 37 can be supported in any position on the guide flange 19, a support pin 44 is supported in the guide flange 19, which protrudes into the recess 35. If the ball 37 is now pressed deeper into the recess 35 by screwing in the threaded pin 29, the crank pin 6 is moved against the axis of rotation 3 of the drive shaft 13 against the action of the springs 43. In the innermost position of the ball 37, the crank pin 6 is aligned with the drive shaft 13 and the bearing pin 20, so that the connecting rod 7 mounted on the crank pin 6 no longer performs any lifting movement. It is thus possible to set the stroke from zero to a maximum value, which is shown in FIGS. 3 and 4. Accordingly, the feed of the sewing material can be set from zero to a maximum feed value.

The crank arm 5 is composed of a drive flange 45 connected to the drive shaft 13 and a coupling flange 48 fastened on the crank pin 6 by means of a wedge 46 and a clamping screw 47. The coupling of the two flanges 45, 48 takes place through a diagonal web 49 on the drive flange 45, which projects into a diagonal groove 50 of the coupling flange 48. If the threaded pin 29 is adjusted with the aid of the grip sleeve 30, the coupling flange 48 moves in the same way with respect to the drive flange 45 as the crank arm 18 with respect to the guide flange 19. When the setting of the crank radius has ended, the position of the crank arm 18 and the coupling flange 48 remains relative the axis of rotation 3 unchanged.

The adjusting bolt 34 rotates with the guide flange 19 so that the end face of the adjusting bolt 34 supported on the threaded pin 29 rotates on the fixed threaded pin 29, but the wear is practically zero due to the low speed in the contact area and the relatively low pressures. The fact that in the setting part according to FIG. 2 the transition from the rotary movement to the fixed or manually operated part takes place in a region of low rotational speed, the setting of the crank radius and thus the material feed on the sewing machine can be carried out not only when the machine is at a standstill but also during operation the sewing machine. Because of the simplicity of this adjustment option, the material feed can now also be adjusted by the seamstress herself.
