Abstract

In a rotary press comprising a cylinder provided with a blanchet (2) and a printing cylinder (3), the blanchet is replaced by a mounting sheet (5) on which are arranged band-shaped tools (6). The arrangement of the tools (6) corresponds to the perforations, punchings or grooves to be effected on the paper, respectively on the cardboard passing through the rotary press. On the printing cylinder (3) a plane protection sheet (7) is arranged. Both sheets (5 and 7) may be used several times and, owing to means available on the press, they may be rapidly mounted and disassembled.

Description

The invention relates to a method for perforating, punching or creasing paper and cardboard in rotary printing machines by means of prepared band-shaped tools arranged on an assembly film, the band-shaped tools being applied to an assembly film outside the machine before the start of the workflow, and a device for carrying out this method .

A device for performing punchings and perforations on printed or unprinted papers on rotary printing presses is known from US-A-3,554,070. In this known device, the tools consist of angular bands with a long and a short leg. The short leg runs at right angles to the long leg and is designed as a cutting edge. Depending on the desired machining, the cutting edge is continuous or interrupted. For perforations, for example, it is designed like a sawtooth. The tapes are provided with adhesive on the lower surface of the long leg and are glued in the desired position directly onto the impression cylinder of known rotary printing machines. This impression cylinder is in a known manner in contact with the so-called blanket cylinder, which in turn is in contact with the plate cylinder. After the band-shaped tools are arranged in the desired position on the impression cylinder, the paper to be processed is passed between the impression cylinder and the blanket cylinder, and the cutting edges of the band-shaped tools cut the paper at the desired locations. At the same time, a print image can be transferred from the plate cylinder to the paper via the rubber blanket mounted on the blanket cylinder.

In practice it has been shown that simultaneous printing and perforating or punching of paper is only possible while accepting considerable losses in the quality of the printed product. The cutting through the paper of the band-shaped tool damage the blanket on the blanket cylinder and leave cuts on the blanket surface. As a result, the rubber blanket can no longer be used for further printing processes and must be replaced. Furthermore, sticking the band-shaped tools onto the impression cylinder is time-consuming and complex. The tools cannot be glued to the printing presses with roughened impression cylinders because they do not stick to the surface of the impression cylinder or smear the freshly printed sheets. Another disadvantage also shows that the leg of the band-shaped tool provided with the cutting edges can only have a maximum height which corresponds to the space between the surface of the impression cylinder and the surface of the rubber blanket on the rubber blanket cylinder. Since the support leg of the tool must also find space in this space, the cutting edges do not extend over the entire height of the short leg — and — either the paper cannot be cut completely through, or there are raised portions and leg impressions on the paper. As a result, the former means that the paper parts cannot be properly separated from one another, and the latter that high stacks of processed paper sheets cannot be formed.

According to CH-A-587 107, it is known in the case of rotary punching machines to apply the cutting rulers to a film by means of a binder, and then to pull this film onto the punching cylinder. The use of this method in rotary printing presses has additional disadvantages, since the film drawn onto the impression cylinder reduces the space between the impression cylinder and the blanket cylinder necessary for the continuous paper. With certain machine types, the introduction of a film provided with band-shaped tools onto the impression cylinder is possible only with very great difficulty.

The invention is based on the object of avoiding the disadvantages of the known prior art and of providing a solution with which perforations, punchings or scoring of paper and cardboard can be carried out correctly on rotary printing presses without damaging parts of the machine or the printing device . Furthermore, the solution should enable a shorter downtime of the rotary printing press and allow high working speeds.

According to the invention, this object is achieved according to the method in that the rubber blanket is removed from the rubber blanket cylinder in a first working step, and an assembly film with band-shaped tools arranged thereon is applied to the rubber blanket cylinder instead of the rubber blanket. The assembly film is prepared outside the machine before the rotary printing machine is shut down, and the ribbon-shaped tools are arranged on it in the desired positions. By changing the distance between the blanket cylinder and the impression cylinder, the desired tool engagement depth and the desired working pressure are set, after which the paper or cardboard to be processed can be carried out between the blanket and impression cylinder. In a further embodiment of the method, one is carried out simultaneously with or after the mounting film has been applied to the blanket cylinder before the paper or cardboard is processed second film applied to the impression cylinder.

The device for carrying out the method on rotary printing presses comprises a plate cylinder with fastening means for an offset plate, a rubber blanket cylinder with fastening means for a rubber blanket and an impression cylinder as well as a device for changing the center distance between the blanket cylinder and impression cylinder and is characterized in that instead of the Rubber blanket a mounting film is attached, on which band-shaped tools are attached with a perforation, punching or creasing, and that a flat film is arranged on the impression cylinder. Advantageously, the band-shaped tools have a T-shaped cross-section, and the central web is equipped with the desired profiling and cutting edge. In a further embodiment of the invention, the central web of the band-shaped tools is at least 1 mm high.

The advantages achieved by the invention are essentially to be seen in the fact that when the paper and cardboard are perforated, punched or creased, neither the rubber blanket nor the paper or cardboard sheets are damaged by the band-shaped tools. By removing the blanket, additional space is gained between the blanket and impression cylinder, which means that even thick paper can be processed. The central web of the band-shaped tools, which carries the cutting edges, can also be made so high that the cutting edge penetrates the paper completely and there are no raised parts. Thigh impressions on the paper can also be eliminated. In addition, there is a significant reduction in the downtime and set-up time on the machine, since the film can be prepared with the band-shaped tools independently of the machine and can be correctly pulled in and fastened by means of the facilities provided on the blanket cylinder for fastening the blanket. The set-up and downtime on the machine can be reduced by at least 50% compared to the machining process with tools glued to the impression cylinder. Another advantage is that the foils can be used several times by being easily removed from the blanket cylinder and stored after the machining process has ended. After removing the mounting film with the band-shaped tools, the rubber blanket can be pulled back on and the printing process can be continued. In the case of perforation, punching or creasing work of the same type, the prepared mounting film is removed from the storage again and applied to the rubber blanket cylinder instead of the rubber blanket. This means that the band-shaped tools can be used several times. Resharpening the blunt tools also increases their lifespan. This method according to the invention and the corresponding device also enable printers which have only one rotary printing machine and no punching machine to perform perfect perforation, punching or creasing work.

In Figure 2, a section of a band-shaped tool 6 is shown as an example, which is a perforation tool. This band-shaped perforation tool has a T-shaped cross section with a foot beam 15 and a central web 16. The central web 16 is 1.9 mm high, this dimension including the thickness of the foot beam 15. The central web 16 carries the cutting edge 19 on the upper edge. The central web 16 is further interrupted by gaps 18, whereby profiled teeth are formed. Spaces 18 un felt teeth 17 and the cutting edge 19 have corresponding dimensions depending on the desired shape of the profile. The base 20 of the T-beam 15 is coated with a double-adhesive tape, which is protected by a cover tape when not in use.

In order to be able to process paper and cardboard sheets by means of perforating, punching or creasing, the desired network of ribbon-shaped tools is initially provided on an assembly film 5 known in printing technology 6 attached. The thickness of the mounting foils 5 and 7 is approximately 0.25 mm in the example described. The band-shaped tools 6 are attached to the mounting film 5 in the flat state of the film 5 and outside the rotary printing press. For this purpose, the protective tape on the base 20 is removed and this base 20 is glued onto the mounting film 5 in the required position. As soon as a printing process in the rotary printing press has ended, the rubber blanket (not shown) is removed from the blanket cylinder 2, and instead of this blanket the mounting film 5 is pulled onto the blanket cylinder 2 and fastened. The attachment can be carried out by means of the existing attachment means 10 or additional aids. The band-shaped tools 6 adapt with the mounting film 5 to the surface of the blanket cylinder 2 and thereby form the rotating tool surface for processing the paper sheets. In the example shown, a protective film 7 is applied to the impression cylinder 3, which also consists of a known mounting film. This is necessary if the impression cylinder 3 is roughened, as is the case, for example, in straight printing machines. In spite of the fact that the center distance 8 or the space 9 between the blanket cylinder 2 and the impression cylinder 3 can normally only be adjusted in a small area, approx. ± 0.5 mm, there is sufficient after removing the blanket and applying the mounting film 5 Large adjustment facility to enable a perfect cut of the band-shaped tools 6 through the paper or the cardboard that passes through the intermediate space 9. The band-shaped tools 6 can be arranged in any manner on the mounting film 5, so that all desired types of perforations, punchings or creases can be produced. The dimensions chosen in the example described allow the processing of cardboard sheets with a weight of more than 300 g / m2. The depth of cut is dependent on the height of the central web 16 or the profile teeth 17 and the center distance 8. After completion of the machining process, the mounting film 5 is removed from the blanket cylinder 2 without the position of the band-shaped tools being changed. The film 5 is kept for later use and can be used again for a similar processing operation. To continue printing with the same rotary printing press, the rubber blanket is pulled back onto the blanket cylinder 2, and the protective film 7 is removed from the impression cylinder 3. The rotary printing press is now ready for further operations.

The conversion of a normal rotary printing machine from printing operation to the perforation, punching or creasing operation according to the invention requires between 12 and 15 minutes, depending on the size of the machine and the mounting film. The previously known methods and devices, wherein the band-shaped tools were glued onto the impression cylinder 3, required at least 30 minutes. In the previously known method, when returning to printing operation, the tools have to be detached from the impression cylinder 3 and cannot be used again for similar work.
