Description

The invention relates to a low-voltage multipolar electrical switch with high electrodynamic resistance, housed in a casing made of molded insulating material, and comprising:
  • a switching slide equipped with a plurality of contact bridges 16, the number of which corresponds to that of the poles, each bridge being perpendicular to the slide,
  • - a mechanism for operating the slide driven in alternating translation between the open and closed positions,
  • - a pair of fixed contacts per pole, arranged at the internal ends of two conductive blades symmetrical with respect to the axis of movement of the slide and bearing on two opposite faces of the housing,
  • - Each contact bridge comprising two superimposed and parallel knives constituting a clamp with self-compensating contacts capable of cooperating with the pair of fixed contacts to ensure, during opening, a double interruption of the current in the corresponding pole.

  • - un échauffement important aux points de contact, nécessitant une augmentation de la section des lames en cuivre;
  • - une endurance électrique réduite résultant d'une dégradation rapide des couteaux;
Such a switch of the prior art is described in the document FR-A-1,472,630 in which each movable contact bridge is constituted by two parallel conductors in the form of thin blades. Each conductor of the bridge is traversed in the closed position by half of the current passing through each pole, and has two points of contact with the pair of corresponding fixed contacts. This type of switch is suitable for low ratings, but poses problems for high intensities, in particular greater than 400 A. These problems essentially consist of:
  • - significant heating at the contact points, requiring an increase in the section of the copper blades;
  • - reduced electrical endurance resulting from rapid degradation of the knives;
  • - incomplete closing on short circuit due to significant electrodynamic forces (attraction and repulsion) between the deck blades.

The invention aims to remedy these drawbacks and allow the production of a switch with high electrodynamic resistance and improved electrical endurance without increasing the size of the housing and the travel of the moving assembly.

The switch according to the invention is characterized in that each of the two knives constituting the clamp has a divided structure with multiple contact points, comprising a first contact finger provided at its opposite ends with two lateral projections, which frame a second contact finger juxtaposed with the first, and that the two projections of the first finger are each provided with a boss located in the same horizontal plane in the vicinity of another boss, arranged at each end of the second finger, each knife being thus equipped four points of contact with the pair of fixed contacts, the latter being arranged to cause a prior separation with the corresponding bosses of the second finger of each knife, at the start of the switch opening stroke, and the final separation with the bosses of the first finger when the slide continues to the open position.

The splitting of the contact points and the distribution of the nominal current in the fingers of each knife lead to a reduction in the temperature rise for the same copper section. The electrodynamic forces by attraction and repulsion are reduced, allowing a short-circuit closure and good electrodynamic resistance without increasing the motor force of the operating mechanism.

The second contact finger of each knife is in the form of a bar housed inside an inverted U of the first contact finger. The entry edge of each fixed contact advantageously has an oblique profile or a structure with notches offset in the direction of movement of the slide.

Other advantages and characteristics will emerge more clearly from the description which follows of an embodiment of the invention, given by way of nonlimiting example and shown in the appended drawings, in which:
  • - fig. 1 is a cross-sectional view along line II of FIG. 2 of a switch according to the invention;

In fig. 1 and 2 a multi-pole switch 10 with high electrodynamic resistance is shown for controlling and cutting low-voltage circuits. The switch 10, housed in a molded insulating housing 12, comprises a movable assembly formed by a switching slide 14 equipped with a plurality of contact bridges 16 parallel and staggered at regular intervals, the number of bridges 16 corresponding to that of switch poles. The movable slide 14 is arranged in the longitudinal median axis of the housing 12 and is actuated in alternating translation between the open and closed positions by a bidirectional operating mechanism 18 with a rotary handle (not shown). The mechanism 18 coupled to the slide 14 is provided with a conventional toggle system 20 with abrupt passage of neutral position generating an optimal speed of opening and closing of the contacts.

Each pole is associated with a contact bridge 16 perpendicular to the slide 14, and cooperating with a pair of fixed contacts 22, 24 spaced apart and symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal central axis. Each pair of fixed contacts 22, 24 is arranged at the internal ends of two conductive blades 26, 28 bearing on two sides pa opposite rows of the insulating housing 12. The outer ends of the blades 26, 28 serve as connection areas 30, 32 of the corresponding pole. All of the blades 26, 28 for supporting the fixed contacts 22, 24 of all the poles lie in the same plane parallel to the bottom of the housing 12, and is distributed in two identical rows arranged on either side of the axis of the slide 14. The contact bridges 16 of the slide 14 are all identical to one another and only one will be described in detail below. Each bridge 16 is of the self-compensated contact type comprising a pair of knives 34, 36 brought together and parallel to each other by extending perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of movement of the slide 14. The pair of knives 34, 36 conductive material constitutes a clip in the form of a double lyre capable of enclosing the two fixed contacts 22, 24 spaced from the corresponding pole during the rectilinear movement of the slide 14 towards the closed position. A device 38 for holding the two knives 34, 36 is arranged in the middle area of the bridge 16, and cooperates with elastic means, in particular springs 40, to ensure a suitable contact pressure.

The operation of such a switch is well known to specialists and it suffices to recall that the actuation by the mechanism 18 of the slide 14 towards the open position generates a double interruption of the current per pole. The extinction of the two arcs in series is facilitated by means of an extinction chamber by cut-off interval, each chamber comprising at least one or two metal sheets 42 for deionizing the arc. The contact pressure normally provided by the elastic means is reinforced in the event of a short circuit thanks to the self-compensating phenomenon due to the electrodynamic attraction exerted between the knife contacts 34, 36 parallel to the bridge 16 traversed by currents in the same direction, the intensity of the current in each knife being equal to half of the total current passing through the corresponding pole.

According to the invention, each of the two knives 34, 36 constituting the clamp comprises a divided structure with multiple contact points, equipped with a first contact finger 44 outside with projections 44A, 44B, the assembly being shaped as an inverted U inside which is housed a second internal contact finger 46 juxtaposed in the form of a bar (FIGS. 3 and 4). The opposite ends of the two contact fingers 44, 46 of each knife are cut in a chamfer so as to constitute four bosses 48A, 48B; 50A, 50B, the contact faces of which are located in the same plane. The two bosses 48A, 48B of the external contact finger 44 belonging to the upper knife 34 are arranged opposite the conjugate bosses 48A, 48B of the external contact finger 44 belonging to the lower knife 36. It is the same for the other bosses 50A, 50B respectively of the two internal contact fingers 46 of the knives 34, 36. Each movable contact bridge 16 has, in the closed position of the switch, eight points of contact with the pair of fixed contacts 22, 24 of the corresponding pole. The vertical spacing formed between the respective bosses of the two upper and lower knives 34, 36 corresponds substantially to the thickness of the fixed contacts 22, 24. In the closed position, the latter are sandwiched between the bosses of the two knives 34, 36, and each fixed contact 22, 24 has an oblique entry edge 52 cut in a bevel.

The flat central parts of the two knives 34, 36 of the bridge 16 are clamped against one another by the device 38 with the interposition of an insulating element 54 ensuring the distribution of the current in the two knives. The holding device 38 for the knives 34, 36 comprises a pair of clamping members 56, 58 each provided with two support blades 60, 62 comprising two hooking pins 64, 66 folded at right angles in opposite directions and bearing on the base of the lower knife 36, one 64 on the internal contact finger 46, and the other 66 on the external contact finger 44. The blades 60, 62 pass vertically through openings 68 aligned in the knives 34, 36 at the level of the separation plane of the contact fingers 44, 46. In contrast to the lugs 64, 66, the blades 60, 62 are equipped with pins 70 cooperating with washers 72 for stopping. Each clamping member 56, 58 is associated with a compression spring 40 interposed between the stop washer 72 and the upper face of the knife 34 opposite the boss contacts. It is noted that the contact pressure spring 40 rests by means of a washer 72a on the two contact fingers 44, 46 juxtaposed constituting the upper knife 34.

The presence of the eight contact points per pole allows a reduction in the temperature rise of the switch in nominal operation and therefore allows an increase in size by using the same copper section for the contact members. The electrical endurance of the switch is also improved thanks to the design of the knives 34, 36 and the oblique shape of the input edge 52 of the fixed contacts 22, 24. At the start of the opening stroke (according to the direction of the arrow F) of the slide 14 takes place first of all the separation of the fixed contacts 22, 24 from the corresponding bosses 50A, 50B of the internal contact fingers 46 superimposed on the knives 34 and 36 (fig. 5) . The edge 52 of the fixed contacts 22, 24 remains in contact with the other bosses 48A, 48B of the external contact fingers 44. The separation occurs later during the continued stroke of the slide 14 towards the open position, and this results in two arcs drawn respectively between the bosses 48A, 48B of the outer fingers 44 and the fixed contacts 22,24 (fig. 6). The presence of the deionization plates 42 ensures rapid extinction of the arcs. Note that the two internal contact fingers 46 of the knives 34, 36 are used only for the passage of part of the nominal current in the closed position of the switch, but are not affected by the cut when opening the 'apparatus.

The closing power on short circuit and the electrodynamic resistance of the switch are also improved thanks to the judi distribution current current in the contact fingers of the knives 34, 36 without requiring an increase in the stroke of the slide 14.
