Description

The invention relates to a drum magazine for large-caliber ammunition according to the preamble of claim 1.

Drum magazines for storing large-caliber ammunition of various types are known from DE-OS 24 13 983. The ammunition supply of these drum magazines is very limited. After firing a certain type of ammunition, either the empty magazine parts have to be ammunitioned or the drum magazine as a whole has to be exchanged for a fully loaded magazine.

Interchangeable magazines are also known per se from US Pat. No. 2,437,425 for large-caliber ammunition. While reloading the known drum magazine under combat conditions is very difficult, a complete replacement of a magazine that has not yet been completely closed does not appear to be feasible for reasons of rational replenishment.

The invention has for its object to provide an improved drum magazine for large-caliber ammunition give, which provides an enlarged storage space for different types of ammunition, and which also allows easy and quick reloading after the consumption of a certain type of ammunition without inevitable replacement of the still partially loaded magazine.

This object is achieved by the invention specified in claim 1.

Advantageous refinements and developments of the invention emerge from the subclaims.

Die Trommel 10 ist auf einer zentralen Welle 14 drehbar gelagert, und beispielsweise durch einen an der Außenmantelfläche 15 wirksam werdenden Antrieb 16 in eine beliebige Richtung in Umdrehungen versetzbar.FIG. 1 shows, in a schematic representation without reproducing further components of the weapon system which are not essential to the invention, a drum magazine for large-caliber ammunition, which comprises mutually interchangeable ammunition chambers 11, which have storage space for a plurality of cartridges 12 arranged one behind the other in the radial direction. In Figure 1, only one of the ammunition chambers 11 is indicated schematically, which can be configured, for example, in the form of a sector of a circle, and can be snapped into the drum 10 by means not shown in the drawing in such a way that they can be replaced independently of one another at will. The drum 10 is rotatably mounted on a central shaft 14 and can be rotated in any direction, for example by a drive 16 which becomes effective on the outer lateral surface 15.

In each ammunition chamber 11 (FIG. 2) which can be exchanged separately from one another, large-caliber ammunition is staggered one behind the other in the radial direction, preferably in the form of cartridges 12, which is accessible via at least one removal opening -13 arranged on the outer lateral surface 15 of the drum magazine 10. Specifically, the cartridge 12 closest to the outer circumference of the drum magazine 10 in the radial direction is in the removal position, while the cartridges 12 which are staggered inward in the radial direction initially have a storage position and only have to move up in the removal position. In order to at least partially close the removal opening 13 of the ammunition chamber 11, two spring plates 20 (FIG. 1, FIG. 2) are provided, which are arranged opposite one another in the longitudinal sides 21 of the ammunition chambers 11 and are inclined in a roof-like manner such that the tip of the angle they enclose points inwards in the radial direction. These spring plates 20 simply prevent a cartridge 12 in the removal position from falling out unintentionally. As will be explained in more detail below, the locking effect of the spring plates 20 can only be eliminated by a suitable removal device. To delimit the staggered storage positions in the radial direction within the ammunition chamber 11, each storage location or each cartridge 12 to be stored is assigned a pair of spring plates 22, which are arranged radially spaced in pairs in the longitudinal sides 21 of the ammunition chamber 11 and are so inclined roof-like that the tip of the angle enclosed by the pair of spring plates 22 assigned to each other points in the radial direction to the outside. These spring plates 22 ensure in a simple manner that the stored cartridges 12 successively move into the removal position adjacent to the removal opening 13. The advancement is effected by the action of gravity when the drum magazine 10 rotates. The return of a cartridge 12 advanced in the direction of the removal position into a previously assumed storage position is reliably prevented by the spring plates 22 arranged in pairs in the manner of a roof.

Cartridges 12 in the removal position are removed from the ammunition chamber 11 by a removal device explained with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4. This removal device expediently works together with a loading device for a large-caliber weapon described in the earlier patent application P 31 21 998.5. The removal device 30, 40 comprises two gripper arms 31 which can be moved into the removal opening 13 for the purpose of removing a cartridge 12 'which is in the removal position. The longitudinal sides 21 of the ammunition chamber 11 are designed in their upper part adjacent to the removal opening 13 as a control curve in such a way that the gripper arms 31 sliding along them with their outer contour 32 move towards one another in the closing direction into a working position and thereby clamp the cartridge 12 'between them. The surfaces of the gripper arms 31 facing the outer jacket of the cartridge 12 'are expediently covered with adhesive elements 33 for securely gripping the cartridge 12'. For example, roughened plastic inserts or metal inserts with corrugations are suitable for this. In the working position, the gripper arms 31 enclose the cartridge 12 'to be removed and enable their removal from the ammunition chamber 11 and their transport to the weapon barrel. The spring plates 20 provided as a blocking means against inadvertent falling out of a cartridge 12 'located in the removal position are previously pressed against the wall of the ammunition chamber 11 when the gripper arms 31 are inserted into the ammunition chamber 11, so that the blocking caused by them is released.

In order to ensure the safe transport of the removed cartridge 12 'to the weapon barrel, the working position of the gripper arms 31 is at least temporarily fixed by suitable locking means. In the exemplary embodiment of the removal device shown in FIG. 3, the gripper arms 31 are pivotably mounted on separate axes 34, 34 'and are in engagement with one another via intermeshing toothed segments 36, 36' which can be locked by ratchets 35, 35 '. The ratchets 35, 35 'in turn are fixed in their position by means of locks 38, 38', which no longer represent until after the ammunition transport has ended provided mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic means are moved outwards and release the ratchet system. The tension springs 39 then move the gripper arms 31 outwards as far as a stop, as a result of which the cartridge 12 'is released.

In the exemplary embodiment of the removal device shown in FIG. 4, the gripper arms 31 are likewise mounted on separate axes 34, 34 'and are connected to one another in their connecting region 41 via a frictional connection. The surfaces of the gripper arms 31 which roll on each other in the connection region 41 are expediently also provided with a z. B. provided plastic coating. In order to prevent an uncontrolled spreading apart of the gripper arms 31 between them after reaching the working position in which the cartridge 12 ′ to be removed is clamped between them, a brake wedge 42, which is acted upon by a compression spring 43 and is located in the connecting region 41 between the bearing parts the gripper arms 31 presses. After the ammunition has been transported, this brake wedge 42 can in turn be pressed into its rest position by mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic means (not shown in the drawing), whereupon the gripper arms 31 can pivot outwards and release the cartridge 12 'which is initially held in place. The releasing pivotal movement is in turn supported by tension springs 44.

The respective state of charge of the drum magazine 10 is advantageously monitored by an electronic circuit arrangement (FIG. 5), which notifies the operating team at any time of the remaining ammunition supply via suitable display means and, if necessary, afterwards warning of total consumption of a certain type of ammunition.

Drum magazine 10 can be ammunitioned with various types of ammunition. Each independently replaceable ammunition chamber 11 expediently comprises a specific type of ammunition. The type and number of a filled ammunition chamber 11 are characterized by a suitable marking 100, which is preferably firmly connected to the ammunition chamber 11 and which, after the ammunition chamber 11 has been inserted into the drum magazine 10 (FIG. 1, FIG. 5), is preferably electro-optically marked working reading head 101 is readable. The reading head 101 converts the information encoded in the marking 100 about the type and number of the ammunition contained in the ammunition chamber 11 into suitable electrical signals which are further processed in an evaluation unit. This evaluation unit 102 initially comprises storage means 103 which, on the one hand, stores the data extracted from the markings 100 via the reading head 101, and which, on the other hand, assigns the angular position of the drum magazine 10, determined via a rotary encoder 104, to the markings 100. Additional sensors, not shown in FIG. 5, which are actuated, for example, by the removal device 30, 40 or by the unlocked spring plates 20 during the removal process, supply the storage means 103 with additional information about the removal processes that have taken place, so that the respective current state of charge is formed by forming the difference Ammunition chambers 11 are always available for display on a display device 105. The evaluation unit 102 can expediently be set up in such a way that a warning is displayed on the display device 105 at the latest when a certain type of ammunition is completely used up is. A warning can be given when a certain minimum amount of a certain type of ammunition has fallen below.

The operating team can then decide whether a further use with the remaining ammunition supply is selected or whether, as a precaution, already empty ammunition chambers 11 are exchanged for filled ones.

The operating team can use operating means 106 to select which type of ammunition is removed from the removal device 30 from one of the ammunition chambers 11 in the next working step. The evaluation unit 102, in the storage means 103 of which all the necessary information about the occupancy of the ammunition chambers 11 is contained, then ensures that the suitable ammunition chamber 11 with the selected ammunition type is ready for removal by a suitable rotary movement of the drum magazine 10.
