Abstract

A connector for clamping one or more electrical conductors has a shackle which cooperates with a screw serving to urge one end portion of a rail toward a bottom wall of the shackle. The bottom wall has a central portion flanked by two convergent lateral portions which guide one or more conductors against the internal surface of the central portion when the screw causes the end portion of the rail to approach the bottom wall. The underside of the end portion of the rail has a centrally located platform whose underside urges the conductor or conductors against the central portion of the bottom wall and which is assisted by two ridges disposed between pairs of recesses in the end portion of the rail. The lateral portions of the bottom wall have notches which receive portions of the platform, and the recesses receive portions of the corresponding lateral wall portions. The undersides of the ridges can constitute concave surfaces to further enhance the gathering, centering and clamping effect of the end portion of the rail when the screw is rotated in a direction to advance the end portion toward the inner side of the bottom wall.

Mit der dort gezeigten Anordnung können zwar unter entsprechender Zentrierung einwandfrei Einzeldrahtleiter unterschiedlichen Querschnitts festgelegt werden, doch ist diese Anordnung zur Klemmung mehrdrähtiger oder feindrähtiger Leiter, womöglich sogar auch noch verschiedener Leiter unterschiedlichen Querschnitts, ungeeignet, weil es hier zu einer undefinierten und unkontrollierten Zerteilung der Leiterdrähte an den Schrägflächen käme, mit dem Ergebnis, daß ein Teil der Drähte dann nur unzureichend geklemmt wird. Bei größeren Einzeldrahtdurchmessern erfolgt nämlich alsbald die Klemmung nur noch auf den oberen Schrägkanten der Sicken, so daß die Klemmfläche gering ist und darüber hinaus der Draht einer erheblichen Knickkraft unterzogen wird. Um dies wenigstens für die Leiter passenden Nennquerschnitts zu vermeiden, müssen die Sicken so angeordnet sein, daß zwischen ihnen ein ebener Bodenabschnittsbereich verbleibt. Werden nun aber kleine Einzeldrähte von dem Druckstück auf diesem ebenen Bodenabschnitt geklemmt, unterliegen sie genau der gleichen Problematik, wie sie bei Anschlußklemmen ohne jedwede Leiterzentrierung auftritt, bei denen ein ebenflächiger Klemmkörperboden mit einem unterseitig ebenflächigen Druckstück zusammenwirkt. Bewegt sich nämlich das Druckstück zur Klemmung auf den Bodenbereich des Klemmkörpers zu, schieben die bodenseitigen Flächen der seitlichen Ansätze im Rahmen des Möglichen die Leiterdrähte von den schrägen Verjüngungsflächen auf die Mittellängsachse, d.h. die am tiefsten liegende Zone der Zentrierung zu. Claims (9)

1. A connecting terminal for electrical oonductors with a centering clamping connection comprising a hollow clamping body (1) with a bottom (4) which is formed as a centering means for the conductor by means of a concave tapering configuration (5) converging towards the longitudinal centre line, and a pressure member (3; 3') which is adapted by virtue of its shape to said bottom (4) and which is movable to a position against the bottom (4) by means of a clamping screw (2), characterised in that the pressure member (3; 3') has projections (8) projecting laterally beyond its taper portions (6) at at least one position as viewed over the length of the clamping zone, the bottom surfaces (9) of said projections (8) lying at least approximately in one plane with a central flat portion (7) at the tip of the tapering configuration (5) of the clamping body (1), wherein provided in the tapering bottom walls (4) of the clamping body (1) are recesses (11) for completely accommodating the projections (8).
2. A connecting terminal according to claim 1 characterised in that the pressure member (3; 3') is a current bus (3; 3') connecting two clamping connections and which is provided at the underside in the region of the clamping zones with taper portions in the form of inclined surfaces (6), the projections (8) being formed by leaving the full bus cross-section.
3. A connecting terminal according to claim 1 or claim 2 characterised in that the projections (8) are arranged in the middle region of the clamping zone.
4. A connecting terminal according to claim 2 characterised in that adjoining the clamping zone, the current bus (3, 3') is also provided at each of its free outer ends with a respective portion (13) which is of the full bus cross-section.
5. A connecting terminal according to one of the preceding claims characterised in that the pressure member (3, 3') has grooving at its operative surfaces formed by the flat portion (7) and the surfaces (9) of the projections (8), which are towards the bottom.
6. A connecting terminal according to one of claims 1 to 4 characterised in that the clamping body (1) has grooving at its operative surfaces formed by the inclined bottom walls (4) and the inside surface of the rounded tip (5) of the tapering configuration.
7. A connecting terminal according to claim 1 characterised in that the recesses (11) for accommodating the projections (8) are formed by beads (12) which are stamped out in the bottom walls (4).
8. A connecting terminal aocording to claim 1 characterised in that the recesses (11) for the projections (8) are formed by stamping out in the form of holes in the bottom walls of the clamping body (1).
9. A connecting terminal according to claim 1 or claim 2 for multi-wire conductors of large nominal cross-section characterised in that a hollow groove (7') extending over the entire clamping zone is provided in the middle flat portion of the tip of the taper configuration of the pressure member (3').
