Abstract

The flexible cable supplies power to movable equipment with rated voltages up to 1,000V., esp. hand-held tools, and has three wires twisted together and sheathed in a plastics or rubber sleeve. The two wires (1,2) that carry current have an outer layer (3) composed of electrically-conducting plastic or rubber. The third wire (the ground wire) is either a plain wire or a wire (4) covered in an electrically-conducting plastic or rubber layer (5). The outer sheaths of all three wires are electrically connected since they touch one another. A break in one of the current-carrying wires - a break causing a failure in the insulation - results in the current-carrying wire being electrically connected to the ground wire. A fuse between the ground wire and the current wires (and located in a plug) therefore burns out.

Description

Connecting cables for electrically operated hand-held devices for household and handicraft are subject to particularly high mechanical stresses on the insertion of the line into the device or on the plug connection. Even with the help of commercially available anti-kink sleeves, overstressing the copper conductors in the areas of the device entry and the plug cannot be reliably avoided. For example, when cleaning up irons, the connecting cable is often simply wrapped around the handle and severely kinked at the connection end.

Excessive stress on the connecting cable can lead to wire breaks in the live conductors. The broken individual wires can pierce the insulation and the outer jacket during further operation of the line. If the conductor of an adjacent wire is hit, a short-circuit or an earth fault occurs and the corresponding fuse responds. However, if the adjacent wire is not hit, protection is only given to those who touch the line if a residual current circuit is provided for the device provided with the connecting line. However, this is often not the case and is not required for household appliances, for example.

The aforementioned breaks in individual wires of the conductors can cause destruction of the wire insulation and the cable sheath, so that the conductor lies unprotected in the user's grip area without a safety device switching off the line or the device.

The invention provides a flexible electrical line, which is provided at nominal voltages up to 1000 V for the supply of portable electrical devices, such as hand-held devices for household and handicraft, and which enables reliable protection against accidental contact in the event of conductor breaks. For this purpose, it is provided in the case of the line consisting of three wires stranded together and a plastic sheath surrounding the wires that the two current-carrying wires have an outer layer made of electrically conductive plastic or rubber and that the third wire is bare or with an electrically conductive plastic or rubber layer . coated conductor is formed.

With a line of this type, in the healthy state, the third wire and in each case the conductor of a current-carrying wire form a circuit interrupted by the wire insulation. In the event of damage, this circuit is closed. If you now see a fuse element at the plug end of the line, which is connected between the third wire and the two current-carrying wires, this responds in the event of damage and switches off the connecting line including the device from the power source. The corresponding securing element can, for example, be accommodated in the housing of the mains plug, or the mains plug is provided with a corresponding adapter.

An embodiment of the new line is shown in the figure.

The figure shows a round, three-core plastic hose line, the current-carrying wires 1 and 2 are stranded with the earth wire 4/5 to the cable core. The insulation of each live wire is provided with an outer conductive layer 3, while the earth wire from the conductor 4th and an electrically conductive plastic casing 5. The cores stranded together are embedded in the plastic jacket 6.
