Definitions
- the present invention relates to rod lappers intended to be mounted on a lapping machine and comprising a cylindrical lapping body, bars the outside face of which is abrasive and which are slidably mounted radially in openings in the lapping body, and a dagger. which is slidably mounted axially in the lapping body and has at its periphery sloping surfaces in contact with the internal faces, of the same slope, bars.
- the dagger When using a lapping machine of this kind, the dagger is connected to the expansion rod of the lapping machine. When it sinks into the body, the sloping surfaces with which it is fitted, move the bars outwards; the lapping is expanding. Generally, the lapping machine has springs which tend to apply the bars to the sloping surfaces and which bring these bars back inside the body of the lapping machine when the dagger is moved in the direction corresponding to its withdrawal.
- the radial position of the bars and, consequently, the working diameter of the lapping are determined precisely when the dagger sinks into the body of the lapping, it is not the same, as a result of friction, when the dagger is moved in the direction corresponding to its withdrawal.
- the present invention relates to an improved lapping which overcomes in a very simple manner, this drawback, while allowing easy change of the bars.
- the lapping machine according to the invention is characterized in that a groove with a frustoconical bottom, of the same slope as the bridged surfaces of the dagger, is formed at the periphery of this dagger, and in that segments formed in a hollow truncated cone complementary to the groove are fixed therein and engaged in mortises of the bars parallel to the sloping surfaces. These segments hold the bars in abutment on the sloping surfaces of the dagger, so that the bars are moved radially by the dagger in a positive way both when this dagger is pressed into the body of the lapping and when it is moved in the opposite direction .
- the lapping machine comprises a lapping body 1 comprising an active part 2 and a control head 3. This body is pierced with a first cylindrical hole 4 in the control head and with a second cylindrical hole 5 more small diameter in the active part; the two cylindrical holes 4 and 5 communicate and are separated from each other by a shoulder 6.
- the active part 2 can be protected externally by a diamond coating and has longitudinal 7 and circumferential 8 grooves; it further comprises longitudinal slots 9 opening into the interior recess 5 and arranged radially.
- the lights 9 have a length slightly less than the active part of the lapping and each contain a bar 10.
- the bars 10 have a length and a thickness practically equal to the length of the lights 9 and to the width of these lights.
- the control head 3 of the lapping body is fixed by screws 11 to a centering block 12 making it possible to drive it in rotation.
- a dagger 13 comprising a control head 14 and an active part 15 corresponding respectively to the control head 3 and to the active part 2 of the body of the lapping.
- the active part 15 of the dagger consists of a cylinder of the same diameter as the bore 5 of the active part 2 of the body of the lapping machine.
- This cylinder comprises as many grooves 16 with a sloping bottom as the lapping has bars 10.
- These sloping grooves have the same width as the bars which can thus engage in the grooves of the dagger.
- the bars 10, which are trapezoidal, have a sloping side 10a of the same slope as the grooves of the dagger so that they can slide radially in the slots of the lapping body and longitudinally in the grooves of the dagger; the opposite face lOb of the bars is diamond-coated.
- the dagger further comprises, approximately in the middle part of its active area, a groove 17 with a conical bottom of the same slope as the grooves, but less deep than the latter.
- a groove 17 with a conical bottom of the same slope as the grooves, but less deep than the latter.
- segments 18 which are cut in a complementary truncated cone shut your throat.
- the truncated cone is cut into as many segments as there are grooves in the dagger.
- the segments are arranged so that each of them partially opens into a single groove in the dagger.
- the bars 10 having mortises 19 parallel to the sloping sides 10a of the bars and into which the ends of the segments 18 engage.
- the head 14 of the dagger has a bore 20 comprising a threaded portion 21 allowing the attachment of a nozzle 22 connected to the machine expansion control.
- a screw 23 pressing on a flat portion of the tip 22 prohibits the relative rotation of the tip and the dagger, after adjusting their relative position.

Abstract
