Definitions
- each pole comprises a proper flyweight of predetermined mass, mechanically connected to the movable contact by a dead-stroke mechanical connection, and capable of make a limited movement relative to the latter.
- a first bias spring is associated with the mechanical connection, and a second contact pressure spring biases the movable contact in the closed position.
- the rapid displacement towards the open position of the movable contact is effected by means of an auxiliary magnetic circuit with thin air gap surrounding at least one conductor traversed by the current.
- the object of the invention is to remedy this drawback and to produce a large-gauge limiting circuit breaker equipped with a retarder member with simple and reliable inertia.
- the limiting circuit breaker according to the invention is characterized in that the retarder member comprises a counterweight formed by a first contact arm, associated by a dead-link mechanical connection with a second juxtaposed contact arm cooperating in the open position with a stopper arranged to limit the travel of the second arm beyond the open position and to allow continued movement of the first juxtaposed arm until the dead travel of the mechanical link is caught up, the inertia of the first arm then compensating for the shock due to the coming into engagement of the second arm and of the stop, so as to prevent the immediate reclosing of the contact arms before the intervention of the trip unit.
- the retarder member comprises a counterweight formed by a first contact arm, associated by a dead-link mechanical connection with a second juxtaposed contact arm cooperating in the open position with a stopper arranged to limit the travel of the second arm beyond the open position and to allow continued movement of the first juxtaposed arm until the dead travel of the mechanical link is caught up, the inertia of the first arm then compensating for the shock due
- the inertia of at least one movable contact arm is advantageously used to form the counterweight of the retarder member.
- said mechanical connection comprises a drive member integral with the second contact arm associated with the stop, and cooperating with play with the first juxtaposed counterweight arm capable of performing a limited movement during said dead travel.
- a low-voltage multi-pole limiter circuit breaker for high ratings for example of the order of 1000 amperes, is composed of a standard circuit breaker block 10 with molded insulating housing 11, superimposed on a limiter block 12 lower than molded insulating housing 13 with the same basic dimensions.
- the open intermediate bottom 14 constitutes a partition wall between the two blocks 11, 13 and has orifices 15 for the passage of connection conductors.
- the circuit breaker block 10 comprises by pole fixed contacts 16 arranged in the vicinity of the bottom 14 and cooperating in the closed position with corresponding movable contacts 18 carried by a plurality of pivoting fingers 20 housed in a cage 21
- a breaking chamber 19 is provided in each pole and comprises a stack of metal separators for extinguishing the arc drawn between the contacts 16, 18 during their separation.
- An operating mechanism 22 with toggle switch 24 and spring 23 energy accumulator is arranged in the central zone of the housing 11 and controls the closing and opening of the contact fingers 20, either by manual actuation of an external lever 26, or by the interaction of a trigger block 28 causing the automatic release of the trigger hook 29 associated with the mechanism 22 and causing the circuit breaker to open in the event of a fault.
- the trip unit 28 with adjustable trip threshold of the magnetothermal or electronic type is sensitive to overload or short-circuit currents and is arranged longitudinally opposite the breaking chamber 19 relative to the mechanism 22.
- a bar of switching 30 common to all the poles extends in the transverse direction of the housing 11 and cooperates with the operating mechanism 22 for the simultaneous actuation of the different cages 21 juxtaposed during manual or automatic control.
- a connecting braid 32 electrically connects the rear part of each contact finger 20 to a conductive pad 34 passing through the trip unit 28. It is unnecessary to describe in detail the structure and operation of such a circuit breaker unit 10 well known to specialists. .
- the limiter block 12 attached to the intermediate bottom 14 comprises, by pole, three contact arms 36a, 36b, 36c juxtaposed, each finger 36 having an elongated shape extending in the longitudinal direction of the housing 13 and parallel to the contact fingers 20 of the circuit breaker block 10 superior.
- One end of each arm 36a, 36b, 36c carries a movable contact 37 cooperating in the closed position with a fixed contact 38 arranged on a fixed conductor 40 pressed against the bottom 41 of the housing 13.
- the opposite end of the arm 36a , 36b, 36c is articulated on a pivot axis 42 oriented in the transverse direction of the bar 30, and housed in the housing 13 between the conductor 40 and the lower part of the trigger block 28.
- the conductor 40 extends beyond of the fixed contact 38 in the direction of an end horn 43 forming part of an arc extinguishing chamber 44 with deionization plates 46 formed under the breaking chamber 19 of the circuit breaker block 10.
- the ex opposite end of the elongated conductor 40 passes through the hole 15 in the bottom 14 and is subject to the range 34 for crossing the trip unit 28.
- each contact arm 36a, 36b, 36c extends parallel and at a short distance from the conductor 40 to form a large current loop subjected to electrodynamic repulsion forces when a short-circuit current appears.
- the line of action of the spring 58 is substantially perpendicular to the transverse direction of the pivot axis 42, and the return force of the spring 58 is exerted on the end of the arm 36 opposite the movable contact 37.
- a connecting braid 52 electrically connects each contact arm 36a, 36b, 36c movable to a first connection pad 50 by means of a perpendicular conductor 54, which passes through a light formed in the bottom 41.
- the conductor 54 is traversed longitudinally by the lower conductor 40.
- the second connection pad 48 is integral with a conductor 51 of C-shaped connection passing behind the deionization plates 46 of the arc extinguishing chamber 44 to cause the attraction of the arc drawn between the contacts 37, 38.
- the connecting conductor 51 crosses an opening 15 in the intermediate bottom 14 and is connected to the fixed contact 16 of the corresponding pole of the circuit breaker block 10.
- the two connection pads 48, 50 of each pole of the limiting circuit breaker are arranged under the base 41 of the limiter block base 12, so as to avoid current feeds through the lateral faces of the boxes 11.
- Each pole of the limiter block 12 is equipped with an inertia retarder device that becomes active at the end of the opening stroke of the contact arms 36a, 36b, 36c to slow their fall back to the closed position by hindering the reclosing of the contacts 37, 38 before tripping of the circuit breaker block 10.
- the central contact arm 36b for this purpose is provided with a stop pin 60 held in a circular hole 61 by two retaining washers 62, 64 bearing on the opposite faces of said arm 36b.
- the stop axis 60 extends parallel to the pivot axis 42 in the transverse direction of the housing 13, and engages by its opposite ends in two circular openings 66, 68 formed respectively in the two other lateral arms 36a , 36c juxtaposed arranged on either side of the central contact arm 36 b.
- Each opening 66, 68 has a diameter greater than that of the stop axis 60.
- the length of the latter is also less than the width of a pole.
- a protrusion 70 projecting from the intermediate bottom 14 serves as a shock absorber for the central contact arm 36b when it comes to the end of the opening stroke.
- the limiter block 12 does not intervene and the contacts 37, 38 remain closed thanks to the preponderant action of the contact pressure springs 58 vis-à-vis the weak electrodynamic repulsion forces exerted between the contact arms 36 and the conductor 40.
- the fault is detected by the trigger block 28 which controls the unlocking of the trigger hook 29 of the mechanism 22, followed by the opening of the contacts 16, 18 of the circuit breaker block 10, the arc extinguishing taking place in the breaking chamber 19.
- the stopped pivoting of the central arm 36b at the end of the first opening phase does not, however, hinder the continued movement of the lateral arms 36a, 36c during a dead travel da broken up during the second opening phase.
- the take-up of the dead travel d takes place by the engagement of the openings 66, 68 of the lateral fingers 36a, 36c (in broken lines, FIG. 1) and of the stop axis 60 of the central arm 36b.
- the abutment of the central arm 36b against the protuberance 70 generates a shock tending to return said central arm 36b to the closed position.
- the invention is not limited to the embodiment described, but it extends to any variant remaining within the framework of electrotechnical equivalences, in particular that in which a different number of contact arms 36a, 36b, 36c .. would be used in the limiter block 12, and that in which the mechanical linkage to play of the inertia retarder device would be arranged differently.
- the latter has been described with reference to a modular limiter block 12 associated with an independent circuit breaker block 10 with automatic trip 28, but it is understood that the retarder device according to the invention also applies to any other limiter circuit breaker whose functions of limitation and disjunction are combined in the same device.
