Abstract

A therapeutic air mattress for attending patients consists of an inflatable hollow body provided with a pair of symmetrically arranged longitudinal air tubes which form an inflatable single chamber system and which almost adjoin one another in a head region and are spaced from one another in a body region where an intermediate chamber is provided in which an oblong resiliently deformable body is displaceably arranged, having a lower degree of deformation that the inflated pair of air tubes. Alternatively, the intermediate chamber also is inflatable, but independently of the pair of tubes, and in use is blown up to a greater extent than the pair of tubes. Patients lying on the mattress can be set in rhythmical vibrations in order to attend on articular rheumatism and blockages of vertebrae and articulations.

Description

The invention relates to a mattress, consisting of longitudinally extending side beads and a center bead arrangement arranged between them, reaching only over the trunk and leg area, at least the side beads communicating with one another, delimiting a closed inflation space and being inflatable via an air connection.

Such a mattress is known from DE-U-1 763 135. The side beads have about the same length as the center bead arrangement and open into a widened head bead in the head area, which has a constant height over the entire width of the mattress. The center bead arrangement consists of three parallel beads, which form a single-chamber system and can be inflated separately. It is a conventional air mattress in which the center bead arrangement is inflated less than the side beads to increase comfort.

Based on this prior art, it is the object of the present invention to provide a mattress which is suitable for therapeutic purposes in that the patient lying in the prone position on the center bead arrangement can be put into rhythmic movements.

This object is achieved in that for the configuration of the mattress as a therapy pillow, the center bead arrangement consists of a single bead, which has a lower deformability than the side beads and that the latter extend over the entire length of the mattress and are at least almost adjacent to each other in the head region of the mattress .

Thanks to the fact that the central bulge is stiffer than the outer bulges, the patient receives a stable position without the spine sagging. The side beads are also pronounced in the head area of the mattress and the gap formed between them results in a defined position for the patient's head. The body of the passively lying patient can now be moved rhythmically, since the side beads are softer and offer little resistance to movement of the patient lying on the center bead. This therapy treatment is not possible with a mattress according to the state of the art, because on one hand the center bead arrangement has a lower height than the side beads, so that the patient sags and on the other hand the harder inflated side beads of the mattress give a high stability that a movement of the Patients lying on the center bead arrangement just prevented.

The center bead can either consist of a closed chamber which is inflated harder than the side beads. However, it is more advantageous to provide a foam or foam rubber body in the center bead, which has a high dimensional stability, but at the same time allows the rhythmic vibrations of the patient particularly well.

The invention will be explained in more detail, for example, with reference to the drawing. It shows

  • 2 is a sectional view through an embodiment of the cushion along the line AB of FIG. 1,
  • Fig. 3 is a sectional view also along the line AB in Fig. 1, but by a modified embodiment, and
  • 4 shows a longitudinal sectional view through the therapy cushion according to the CD of FIG. 1.

The therapy pillow, generally designated 10, is elongated in format and consists of a middle trunk part 12, an upper head part 14 and a lower leg part 16. The pillow is double-walled and has an upper wall 18 and a lower wall 20, both along a circumferential edge 22 are airtight. Two beads 24, 26 extending over the entire length are formed in the pillow 10, which form a closed single-chamber air system and can therefore be inflated by means of a valve or connection 28 (FIG. 2).

In the head region 14, the two beads 24, 26 practically adjoin one another, but there is an elongated opening in the form of a slot 30 between the two beads 24, 26, which extends through the top wall 18 and bottom wall 20 and serves for breathing the patient in the prone position .

In the central fuselage region 12, the two beads 24, 26 are spaced apart from one another and an elongated chamber 32 is formed between them, which can be closed off from the chamber formed by the beads 24, 26. In the embodiment according to FIG. 2, this elongated chamber 32 contains a rigid, elastically deformable core in the form of a body made of foam rubber or foam. This core 34 is elongated and has a shorter length than the chamber 32, so that the core 34 can be displaced in the longitudinal direction in the chamber. The shift serves to adapt to the height of the patient. The height of the elastically deformable body 34 is greatest in the central region 12 of the trunk and decreases towards the two ends. The surface of the body 34 is thus convex in the longitudinal direction. At right angles to this, the surface can also be slightly convex or also straight, as illustrated in FIG. 2.

The upper wall 18 and the lower wall 20 of the cushion 10 are connected to one another by means of intermediate walls 36, 38 which, in the inflated state of the beads 24, 26, lie approximately vertically and delimit the chamber 32 laterally, so that the deformable foam body 34 is secured against displacement in the transverse direction. The longitudinal format of these intermediate walls 36, 38 results from FIG. 4, the outline of these intermediate walls being determined by the shape of the upper wall 18 and the lower wall 20.

The head region 14 of the pillow 10 is narrower than the trunk region, with the result that the beads gradually become flatter towards the head end. A corresponding flattening in the leg portion 16 to Errei the beads - chen are top wall 18 and bottom wall 20, extending in the longitudinal direction, connecting lines 40, 42 connected to each other, which extend at the lower end of the leg portion sixteenth In the leg area 16 there is a depression between each bead 24 or 26 and the middle chamber 32 on the upper wall 18, which contributes to the stabilization of the leg position.

The circumferential edge 22 of the pillow 10 has two fastening eyelets 46 on the upper transverse edge and on the lower transverse edge. The two longitudinal edges are provided with an appropriate number of eyelets 46 at suitable intervals. In the exemplary embodiment, five eyelets are provided on each longitudinal edge. These eyelets serve to releasably fix the therapy pillow 10 on a massage table or the like.

The middle chamber 32 is closed airtight in this case, which need not be the case in the embodiment according to FIG. 2. 3, the central longitudinal chamber 32 is provided with its own inflation valve 44 and it goes without saying that by choosing the right inflation pressures it can be achieved that the middle chamber 32 is stiffer than the two edge beads 24, 26.

If it is said in the foregoing that the foam rubber body is accommodated in a chamber, this means that this chamber can be open, but is independent of the inflatable single-chamber system or that this chamber is openly integrated into the single-chamber system, but is then necessarily closed to the outside .
