Definitions
- the present invention relates to rapid-fire mortars, that is to say curved parts of medium caliber and high firepower and more particularly rear-loading mortars.
- the mortar tube is then movable relative to the support, of the sliding type and equipped with a shock absorber of the force undergone by the support. cannon on each shot.
- a mortar of this type is known, but with manual unit loading without a magazine, which makes this loading painful and slows down the rate, especially in vertical shooting.
- this mortar on a protected carrier vehicle the interior of the latter and the explosion chamber are placed in communication when the cylinder head is opened, which involves the disadvantages of inhaling toxic gases.
- drawbacks which we try to remedy by a strong suction of these gases or by the creation of an overpressure inside the vehicle.
- the size of the breech box is large and constitutes a drawback in vertical shooting.
- French patent 2,163,932 describes another mortar of this type equipped with one or more unitary loading pots integral with the movable part of a wedge breech, placing itself, in the firing position, in the rear extension of the tube and being filled by gravity. These loading pots are therefore movable relative to the mounting of the barrel, and consequently do not make it possible to remedy the difficulties of evacuating combustion gases if the mortar is loaded from an enclosed space, for example the interior of a light carrier vehicle.
- the invention relates to a mortar, of the type comprising on the one hand a tube mobile during firing with respect to a support, and on the other hand an ammunition barrel, integral in translation with the tube, and having at least two chambers which can be placed one at a shooting station and the other at a station supply, this mortar being characterized in that the chambers comprising means for ensuring their fixity with respect to the support when they are placed at at least one station other than the shooting station.
- the means for ensuring the fixity of the chamber comprise a fur, preferably cylindrical, sliding in a barrel between a rest position and a recoil position during firing.
- a gas discharge station is located between the firing station and the supply station in the direction of rotation of the barrel.
- one of the abutments of the evacuation station may advantageously include means for evacuating gases to the outside.
- the invention therefore makes it possible to obtain a rapid-fire mortar having excellent loading ergonomics, due to the fixity of the chamber placed at the corresponding station, and capable of being used from an enclosed space without the clearances of abundant toxic gases at high rate inconvenience the loading staff.
- the space requirement at the rear of the weapon is reduced to the maximum, which is particularly favorable in the case of installation on a protected vehicle.
- the mortar according to FIG. 1 comprises a frame 1, or support, suspended by trunnions 2, or a ball joint, from the roof 3 of a casemate or a turret, thus delimiting an enclosed space occupied by the servants of the armed.
- the mortar comprises a tube 4 integral with the cylinder head 5 which supports the percussion mechanism (not shown), and which comprises an axis 6, parallel to the axis of the tube 4, on which a barrel 7 can rotate.
- the tube 4 is movable in translation relative to the support 1 via an elastic link 12 comprising recuperating springs 4a.
- the barrel 7 comprises three identical chambers 8, 9 and 10 (FIG. 5) equidistant from the axis 6 and which, in the embodiment shown, are placed at 120 ° from one another relative to it.
- a rotary drive mechanism (not shown) rotates it 120 ° in the direction of arrow H when the tube 4 returns to the battery after a shot.
- the chamber 8 is placed at a shooting station X where it is in line with the tube 4, the chamber 9 at a gas evacuation station Y and the chamber 10 at a loading station Z.
- Each of the chambers 8, 9 or 10 comprises a fur 11 a , 11 b or 11 c sliding in the barrel 7 parallel to the axis 6.
- the interior diameters of the furs 11 a , 11 b and ll c are equal to that of the tube 4 .
- the frame 1 At its rear part, the frame 1 comprises a casing 13 for protecting the part of the barrel 7 which is located outside the cylinder head 5.
- the casing 13 has at its front, or upper part, a bearing face 1 3a constituting a front stop for the furs 11a, 11b and 11 c when they are outside the cylinder head 5. Solid with the frame 1, the stop 13a is therefore fixed relative to it.
- the support face 13a is pierced with an orifice 13 b for admission of ventilation air, while to the right of the loading station Z it is pierced with a loading opening 18 allowing the passage of a munition and aligned with that of the furs 11 a , 11 b or 11 c which is at station Z.
- the casing 13 also includes a rear stop 14 for the loading station Z, on which the fur 11 a , 11 b or 11 c which is at Z is carried, as well as a tubular rear stop 15 for the discharge station Y .
- the stop 15 is applied in a sealed manner to the fur 11a, 11b or 11 c which is in Y,. and it is pierced with an evacuation orifice 19 connected to gas suction means towards the outside (not shown)
- the assembly is then in the position represented by FIGS. 1 and 2.
- the chamber placed at the shooting station X that is to say here the chamber 8, contains a munition ready for shooting (FIGS. 1 and 2)
- the chamber 9, placed at the evacuation station Y purges the burnt gases of the previous stroke thanks to the entry of fresh air through the orifice 13 b , and the exit of the gases through the orifice 19 of the tubular stop 15.
- the chamber 10, which is at the loading station Z is ready to receive new ammunition.
- the evacuation of the gases remaining in the chamber after firing is also carried out in masked time and the toxic emissions of the weapon are eliminated without reduction of the rate.
- the procedure to follow is to introduce an ammunition at the loading station Z then to turn the barrel 7 by 120 ° to bring the corresponding chamber to the shooting station. We are then brought back to the situation of Figures 1 and 2 and the shooting sequence previously exposed can begin.
- the mortar can in particular be journalled in a manner different from that which has been indicated, the axis of rotation possibly being closer and even possibly beyond the cylinder head 5, and not be placed in a casemate.
- the barrel can also include more than three stations, the additional stations being able to be used for various functions, such as the adjustment of the loads or the adjustment of the rockets.
- the gas evacuation station can be designed so as to move back with the barrel, which makes it possible to eliminate the corresponding rear stop at the cost of a certain complication of the gas extraction means.
- the means for immobilizing the chambers during recoil can be different from the stops described and include for example cams or retractable fingers, and the means for driving the barrel in rotation can be controlled - and possibly manually - separately instead to be automatically.
Abstract
