Description

The present invention relates to a method and a device for supporting a steel strand produced in the continuous casting process, the liquid core of which is stirred electromagnetically.

It is known prior art of continuous casting technology (US-A-2 947 075) to extrude a steel strand emerging from the mold until it has completely solidified by means of support guide elements, e.g. Roll, support and guide. In most cases, the strand is transferred horizontally along an arcuate guideway. Depending on the size of the strand format to be cast, a different number of successive guide rollers are required along this guideway in order to prevent bulging of the strand shell due to the ferrostatic pressure of the liquid core.

It is also known EP-A-0 008 376) to obtain an improvement in the quality of the cast product by electromagnetic stirring of the melt in the liquid core of the strand. The solidification structure should be influenced in such a way that the largest possible zone of dense, non-directional crystal structure with an even distribution of elements that tend to segregate over the cross section is achieved. For physical reasons, the aim is to place the stirrer as close as possible to the surface of the strand, so that a sufficiently large penetration depth of the electromagnetic traveling field can be achieved with the least possible electrical losses.

Due to the required small distances between successive guide rollers in the case of large strand formats and the small space available, the desired small distance of the stirrer from the surface of the strand can only be achieved with constructive aids which have considerable disadvantages. In a known arrangement of the stirrer (US-A-3952791), an induction stirring field for the melting sump is produced in the immediate vicinity of a long side of a slab, the strand shell being supported directly above and below the stirrer by smaller guide rollers connected to the stirrer takes place in order to keep the distance between successive guide rollers in the area of the stirrer as small as possible. However, this arrangement has the disadvantage that a relatively large stirrer, which has a not inconsiderable width in the longitudinal direction of the slab, is required to build up an effective inductive field in the slab, which inevitably makes the distance between the guide rollers larger than normal. In the immediate area of action of the stirrer, however, it is not possible to support the strand, which can lead to undesirable, harmful bulges of the strand shell.

In addition, the melting sump is only moved directly in the effective range of the fixed stirrer, which also limits the amount of steel moved due to the limited stirrer size. This is where the invention comes in with the aim of preventing the strand shell of the unsupported strand section, which is temporarily located in the influence of the stirrer, from bulging out.

This is achieved in that guide rollers, together with the stirrer acting between them, are oscillated in the longitudinal direction of the strand during casting.

The oscillation of the guide rollers ensures that the time interval during which the respective strand section below the stirrer is unsupported is reduced to a level that is harmless with regard to the strand bulge. Bulging of the strand shell can be largely prevented, or beginning, smaller bulges are pushed back by the rollers moving back and forth. On top of that, the already good heat dissipation from the strand via the rollers is increased due to the oscillation, which increases the strand shell growth.

Due to the fact that the stirrer is also oscillated, its magnetic field also influences a much longer area of the melting sump, as seen in the longitudinal direction of the strand, which means that a relatively large strand section can also be stirred with a small dimensioned stirrer. On top of that, the oscillation movement forces the melt into a helical flow, which has a positive effect on the vortexing of the liquid core which influences the solidification.

The device according to the invention is characterized in that the stirrer is provided with an oscillation device.

According to a further feature of the invention, the stirrer is provided with support rollers, whereby bending of the rollers can be avoided. In this way it is possible to use much smaller rollers, which significantly reduces the space required above and below the stirrer for the oscillation, and thus the unsupported strand sections are also shortened. The same effect can also be achieved with divided guide rollers, which means that the support rollers can be dispensed with.

  • Fig. 2 shows the device according to the invention from Fig. 1 in an enlarged side view

Liquid steel is introduced into the mold from a casting vessel (not shown) using a pouring tube. The steel solidifies superficially in the mold 1 and forms a strand shell which grows steadily in the casting direction and which is supported and guided by the subsequent guide rollers 3 of a curved strand path 4. By means of spray nozzles 5 attached between the rollers, water is sprayed onto the surface of the strand for further cooling of the strand 2. The strand is pulled out and straightened by a drive-straightening unit 7.

In FIG. 2, in a section of FIG. 1, the stirrer 8 is shown with a straight line 2 for the sake of simplification. At a distance of approx. 5 m below the mold end, the stirrer 8 in the form of a traveling field magnet for stirring the strand sump 9 is installed on the inside of the strand 4 at a short distance from the surface of the strand. Viewed in the casting direction, a guide roller 10, preferably made of non-magnetizable steel, is attached to the upper and lower stirrer side. By means of an oscillation device 25, the stirrer 8 can be moved back and forth along the strand path, as indicated by arrows 11, whereby it is moved alternately into the upper layer 14 and the lower layer 15, shown in broken lines and partially.

In the example shown, the oscillation device 25 consists of a lever system 20 provided with an eccentric 21, the levers 20 being supported by means of fixed supports 22.

However, it is also possible to move the stirrer 8 back and forth on guide rails arranged concentrically to the strand path by means of a reversible drive motor.

The slabs cast on the system described had a format of 300 x 1800 mm, the pull-out speed was approximately 1.0 m / min, the guide roller diameter was 250 mm. The stirrer 8 had a length of 800 mm when viewed in the pouring direction, so that there was a distance 12 of approximately 1100 mm between the guide rollers 10 attached to the stirrer. The oscillation stroke of the stirrer 8 was approximately half a stirrer width or approximately half a roller rotation, so that unsupported strand sections 13 of approximately 400 mm resulted above and below the stirrer. In order to cool these rollers 10 uniformly, it can be advantageous in certain cases if they can make one full revolution during the oscillation, as a result of which the unsupported strand sections 13 increase in these cases. Due to the still small thickness of the strand shell in the stirrer area and the ferrostatic pressure of the melting sump 9, the strand has the tendency to bulge, particularly in the strand areas 12 and 13. Therefore, the stirrer 8 has to be moved back and forth together with the rollers 10 at such a speed that the time intervals during which the strand shell is unsupported in areas 12 and 13 are kept as short as possible. The oscillation speed of the stirrer 8 should therefore be a multiple of the strand pull-out speed, depending on the roll diameter and the desired cooling; in the present example it was approx. 50 cm / sec. The active surface 15 of the stirrer 8 was designed to be convex, concentric to the guideway, so that it was at the same distance from the surface of the strand at every point in its path of movement, which made it possible to avoid additional electromagnetic losses. Of course, the stirrer 8 and the associated rollers 10 can also be attached to the outer side of the strand guide, the stirrer side facing the strand having a corresponding concave curvature. When using the device according to the invention in a continuous casting installation with a straight strand guide, the active surface 15 of the stirrer 8 is of course also straight.

In addition, the top and bottom edges of the stirrer adjacent to the strand can be designed with a bevel to achieve a smaller distance 12 between the rollers 10. It is also possible, as shown in FIG. 3, to use small rollers 23 with additional support rollers 24 which are attached to the stirrer and prevent deflection.

With a roller diameter of the guide rollers 23 of e.g. Only 100 mm and an oscillation stroke of the order of half a stirrer width make these rollers 23 a full revolution, as a result of which good cooling of the rollers is achieved and thermal distortion can be avoided.

Of course, guide rollers 23 and support rollers 24 can have a different size ratio to one another than shown in FIG. 3.

It is also possible to divide the rollers 23 or the rollers 24 into a plurality of individually mounted roller sections.

The stirrer can additionally be equipped with spray nozzles which act from its side 15 facing the rod and which are also oscillated, as a result of which advantageous cooling of the strand in the stirrer active region 12 and 13 is achieved.
