Abstract

In the case of a device for printing, dispensing and attaching self-adhesive labels adhering to a carrier tape, the carrier tape is gradually drawn around a dispensing edge by means of a transport device, which is formed by rollers mounted on an axis and on which the self-adhesive labels detach from the carrier tape. In order for the self-adhesive labels to be removed cleanly, the dispensing edge must form an edge that is as sharp as possible, which means that the rolls must have the smallest possible diameter and must therefore be mounted on a very thin axis. In order that rolls of no diameter can be used regardless of the label width and the effects of the frictional torque between the rolls and the axle are kept to a minimum, the axle carrying the rolls is supported between its ends.

Description

The invention relates to a device for printing, dispensing and attaching self-adhesive labels adhering to a carrier tape, with a transport device which gradually pulls the carrier tape around a dispensing edge formed by rollers mounted on an axis, on which the self-adhesive label detaches from the carrier tape and into a donation position arrives.

Such a device is known from US Pat. No. 3,954,545. In this known device, a label can be brought into the dispensing position by first tightening a hand lever and then releasing it again. During the tightening of the lever, the label in the device is provided with a print, for example with a price, an article number or the like, and when the lever is released, the transport device detects the carrier tape and pulls it around one of the Label length corresponding piece around the dispensing edge. When the carrier tape is pulled around the dispensing edge, the label peels off and reaches the dispensing position below the pressure roller. The lever is returned to its initial position under the action of a spring which must be so strong that it can carry out the transport of the carrier tape. In particular, it must be able to overcome the frictional forces that occur when the carrier tape is pulled around the dispensing edge. In the known device, a fixed axis provided with rollers is used as the dispensing edge, so that the pulling of the carrier tape around the dispensing edge only counteracts the friction between the inner surface of the roller and the axis peripheral surface. In order for the label on the dispensing edge to detach cleanly from the carrier tape, the dispensing edge must be designed as a sharp edge as possible. With the special shape of the dispensing edge described above, this requires the smallest possible outside diameter of the rolls. These rollers must be mounted on a correspondingly thin axis so that there is a risk that the axis will bend under the influence of the tensile force exerted on the carrier tape. This bending causes a greater stress on the carrier tape at the edges, which can even lead to the carrier tape tearing. As a result of such tearing, the carrier tape must be re-threaded into the device, which represents an undesirable loss of time. Of course, the risk of sagging is greater the wider the labels for which the device is designed.

Although this disadvantage could be compensated for by using an axle with a larger diameter for the same roller outer diameter, the frictional torque, with the increase in the axle diameter, has a greater effect on the one to be used for the transport of the carrier tape Traction. The smaller the axle diameter for a given roller outer diameter, the smaller the effect of the friction torque on the tensile force.

This disadvantage cannot be compensated for by the fact that an axis with a larger diameter is used, since this would impair the clean detachment of the label from the carrier tape.

The invention has for its object to design a device of the type described above so that regardless of the label width rolls with a small diameter can be used to achieve a sharp dispensing edge and yet the effects of the frictional torque between rolls and axis are kept low.

This object is achieved in that the axle carrying the roller is supported between its ends.

Because of the support provided according to the invention for the axle carrying the roller, it can be dimensioned very thin in relation to the roller diameter without the risk of it bending under the influence of the tensile force exerted on the carrier tape. The same small axis diameter can be used with any label width, since several supports can be used along the axis if necessary. In all cases, the carrier tape is evenly stressed over its entire width at the dispensing edge, so that there is no risk of it tearing. As a result of the use of a thin axis, the outer diameter of the rolls can again be kept small, so that a dispensing edge with a small radius of curvature is obtained, which ensures good detachment of the self-adhesive labels from the carrier tape, without the tape being fed through Frictional torque between the roller and axle is impaired.

Advantageous developments of the invention are characterized in the subclaims.

The invention will now be explained by way of example with reference to the drawing. Show it:

  • Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the dispensing edge. bearer,

The labeling device shown in Fig. 1 contains a housing 1 with a handle 2. On the top of the housing there is a shaft 3 for receiving a supply roll 4 from a carrier tape 5 and self-adhesive labels 6 adhering to it. The carrier tape with the self-adhesive labels runs from the supply roll in the device 4 downwards and then forward to a dispensing edge 7, from which the carrier tape 5 runs past a transport device 8 with strong deflection to the rear end of the housing. The path described is shown in broken lines in FIG. 1. Below the handle 2 is a hand lever 9 roughened against the action of a Spring 10 can be tightened against the handle 2. When the hand lever 9 is tightened, a printing unit 11 is pivoted against a printing table 12, so that an imprint can be produced on the label currently on the printing table. At the same time, the transport device 8 is moved forward by one label length, ie to the left in the view of FIG. 1. During this forward movement, the transport device 8 is not in engagement with the carrier belt 5. When released, the hand lever 9 is moved back into its starting position by the spring 10. This also brings about the return of the printing unit 11 to its starting position and a movement of the transport device 5 backwards by one label length, which is now pulled back by one label length due to an engagement between the transport device and the carrier tape. During this movement of the carrier tape, the self-adhesive label just printed detaches itself from the carrier tape at the dispensing edge and reaches a dispensing position below a pressure roller 13 attached to the front end of the device. By unrolling the pressure roller 13, the self-adhesive label 6 can now be stuck to an object.

Die der Achse 15 zugewandte Seite der Stütznase 18 ist dabei so ausgebildet, daß sie die Achse 15 teilweise umschließt.2 shows a perspective view of the dispensing edge support attached to the underside of the housing 1, which also carries the printing table 12 at the same time. As can be seen, the dispensing edge 7 is formed by several rolls 14 made of plastic, which are mounted on an axis 15 made of steel. The ends of the axis 15 are held by two arms 16 which are connected to one another by a web 17. The printing table is also located on this web. As can be seen in FIG. 2, a support nose 18 is formed on the web 17, on which the axis 15 rests. The side of the support lug 18 facing the axis 15 is designed such that it partially surrounds the axis 15.

It consists of two halves 18a and 18b, laterally offset in the axial direction, against which the axis 15 abuts. This special shape of the support lug is therefore chosen so that the production of the plastic part forming the web 17 is simplified. In this way, the formation of an undercut for receiving the axis 15 is avoided on the plastic part to be produced by the injection molding process, so that the injection mold can be separated easily.

Due to the support of the axis 15, bending of the axis is prevented even with wide labels, which has the consequence that the stresses acting on the dispensing edge on the carrier tape are distributed uniformly over the entire bandwidth. There is therefore no risk that the carrier tape will tear due to uneven stresses.

In a device that works with very wide labels, several support lugs can be attached to the web 17 of the dispensing edge support, on which the axis 15 can be supported.

Due to the support of the axis 15, it is possible to reduce the axis diameter to 0.6 mm with any label width. With this small diameter, correspondingly small rolls can be used without impairing the frictional torque between the rolls and the axle, so that a relatively "sharp" dispensing edge is created, on which labels can be detached reliably even at high transport speeds of the carrier tape and reach the dispensing position under the pressure roller. The labels. show no inclination to fold over at the dispensing edge. With the dimensions mentioned, this favorable behavior can also be achieved if a cheaper one Carrier tape is used, to which the labels adhere more firmly due to less siliconization of the carrier tape surface.

Polyamide has proven to be cheap as the material for the rolls 14.

The diameter of the axle 15 can be reduced even further if materials are used as the material for the axle and the rollers which are more wear-resistant than the materials mentioned above. If, for example, tungsten or hardened steel is used for the axis 15 and ruby is used as the rolling material, the axis diameter can easily be reduced to below the above-mentioned value of 0.6 mm. Since, as has already been mentioned in the introduction, the smaller the axle diameter for a given outer diameter of the roller, the smaller the effect of the frictional torque on the tensile force to be exerted on the carrier tape, so this possibility of further reducing the axle diameter proves to be very advantageous. While maintaining a relatively sharp dispensing edge, that is, with the outside diameter of the rollers 14 unchanged, the influence of the frictional torque on the tensile force can be further reduced by reducing the axle diameter if the specified wear-resistant materials are used.

In order to prevent deflection of the extremely thin axis 15 made of tungsten or hardened steel with certainty, the axis is supported several times between its ends using support lugs 18 of the type shown in FIG. 3.
