Abstract

A method and apparatus are disclosed for influencing the fibers in the uppermost layer of a fibrous web lying on a screen, for example, in applying a watermark or evening the surface of the web, wherein a surface compression is exerted on the web by a screen roller and a second screen guided around the screen roller. The surface compression is maintained over a variable time period and causes a water film to appear on the upper surface of the web, in which the fiber density is much less than in the web prior to the surface compression. This water layer is forcibly aspirated from the web and the fibers therein thus experience a reorientation and become set in desired positions.

Description

The invention relates to a method for influencing a pre-dewatered nonwoven fabric on a screen, in which the nonwoven fabric is temporarily subjected to surface pressure by means of a second screen, and to an apparatus for carrying out such a method.

In the known methods of this type, a surface pressure is exerted on a pre-dewatered nonwoven fabric lying on a four-wire screen by means of an egoutteur, which either consists of only one screen roller or a screen roller arranged within a self-contained, revolving screen, in order to either watermark the nonwoven fabric to provide or to reorient the top fiber layer for the purpose of equalization. The disadvantage of this method is that the zone in which the surface pressure is applied cannot be freely selected, but depends on the one hand on the machine speed and on the other hand on the diameter of the roller, which are subject to limits. Another major disadvantage of the known methods is that that the fixation of the reoriented fibers only takes place in that the screen roller or the screen running with it separates again from the nonwoven fabric. However, the reorientation achieved can be partially reversed. Moreover, especially at high machine speeds, difficulties arise because a part of the water initially remains in the fabric of the egoutteur roller or the sieve and is then spun off in the form of drops which hit the fiber fleece which has just been reoriented and thereby also the fiber position achieved change again.

The invention has for its object to provide a method for influencing the pre-dewatered nonwoven fabric on a sieve and in particular for reorienting the top fiber layer of such a nonwoven fabric, which can better maintain the effect achieved by the pressure treatment of the nonwoven fabric than the known methods. This object is achieved by a method having the features of claim 1.

Characterized in that during the period in which the nonwoven fabric is exposed to a surface pressure, at least some of the water which has exited from the nonwoven fabric under the influence of the surface pressure is forcibly discharged, at least partially through the second sieve, a reliable fixation of the Fibers reached. The selectable time period during which the surface pressure is maintained enables adaptation to different machine speeds, which is why the method according to the invention can be used and is fully effective even at the highest machine speeds. Finally, it is also advantageous that the method according to the invention is not restricted to realigning the uppermost fiber layer in order to make it uniform or to form a watermark. The removal of the water through the second sieve, to which a simultaneous removal of the water in the opposite direction, that is to say through the first sieve, can of course also occur, and the selectable intensity of the water removal can also be used to advantage in the method according to the invention, if additional mass such as fibers or auxiliaries is to be applied to or introduced into the uppermost fiber layer.

Particularly good results can be achieved if the surface pressure is applied to the nonwoven fabric from above and at least part of the squeezed water is forcibly discharged upwards.

In a preferred embodiment, the water is discharged separately from air, because this achieves a better result than when water and air are discharged together.

The invention is also based on the object of providing a device for carrying out the method according to the invention. This object is achieved by a device having the features of claim 4, since the water suction device arranged within the second sieve in addition to the sieve roller is able, with the help of its sieve contact surface, to continue the compression of the nonwoven fabric coming from the sieve roller and thereby the water squeezed out of the fleece to the extent necessary to suction through the second sieve.

The suction device preferably has the features of claim 5, since a suction box is particularly suitable for water drainage and, because of the separate drain lines for water and air, is particularly good and trouble-free Fixation of the fibers is achievable. If water is also to be discharged in the opposite direction, that is to say through the first sieve, then at least one known drainage element need only be arranged opposite the water suction device.

In a preferred embodiment, both the screen roller and the water suction device are mounted on a support device so as to be adjustable relative to the second screen, preferably in such a way that the distance between the water suction device and the screen roller can also be changed. The surface pressure of the fleece generated by means of the water suction device can then be set independently of the surface pressure generated by means of the screen roller, by means of which the time period in which the fleece is influenced can also be changed. On the other hand, this time period depends on the distance between the water suction device and the screen roller, which can also be changed. The device can therefore be particularly easily adapted to different requirements, which may require a separate adjustment of the screen roller and the water suction device as well as a common adjustment. These adjustment options are also advantageous with regard to the reproducibility of the results. A structurally particularly simple design of the carrying device consists in providing a rocker provided with a swivel device and lockable in a selectable swivel position, in which the screen roller is preferably slidably mounted. For such adjustment of the screen roller, the rocker and, optionally, the screen roller is thus moved relative to the swing arm. The water suction device is connected to the rocker arm by means of a holding device which permits a change in its position relative to the rocker arm and possibly to the screen roller, so that the screen roller and suction device can also be adjusted independently of one another.

The invention is explained in detail below using an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing. The single figure shows a side view of the embodiment.

A device for influencing the top layer of a previously dewatered fibrous web, which lies on a non g represents estell- th in a known manner horizontally guided wire has to be placed over the Langs.ieb and lying on it non-woven fabric to an as Entire with 1 frame, which overlaps the fourdrinier sieve from above and, as in the exemplary embodiment, is fastened to the table carrying the Fourdrinier sieve or to a foundation. At the front and rear end of the frame 1, two supports 2 and 3 are provided on each side, which support an upper frame 4, the two side rails of which run at least approximately parallel to the lateral edges of the wire.

On the two supports 2 standing downstream in the running direction of the fourdrinier wire, a support frame 5 engaging between these supports is pivotally mounted with a horizontal axis extending transversely to the longitudinal direction of the fourdrinier wire, the two side rails of which are extended beyond the end remote from the pivot axis. These two mutually parallel extensions are formed by two arms 6 which are firmly connected to the support frame 5 and which, as the figure shows, extend obliquely downwards from the support frame 5 between the two supports 3 and have a bearing 7 on each slide 22 to carry for a screen roller, the axis of which is parallel to the pivot axis of the rocker formed from the support frame 5 and the arms 6. The slides 22 which can be displaced in the longitudinal direction of the arms 6 are displaced in the exemplary embodiment via a spindle which can be driven by a motor 23 and are held in the selected position.

At the end of the two side rails of the support frame 5, which end is extended by the arms 6, one end of a tab 9 is articulated with an axis parallel to the pivot axis of the support frame 5, the other end of which is articulated to a pivot frame 10 pivotably mounted in the upper frame 4. The pivot axis of the pivot frame 10, which lies parallel to the pivot axis of the support frame 5, is provided in the area of the one cross bar, while in the area of the other cross bar near the two side bars each a pneumatic working cylinder 11 acts from below, by means of which the pivot position of the pivot frame 10 within the pivot range can be set to any value. The swing arm consisting of the support frame 5 and the arms 6 can therefore be pivoted with the aid of the pneumatic working cylinders 11, which makes it possible to press the screen roller 8 more or less strongly against the fleece lying on the fourdrinier wire.

Entsprechend steigt der andere Abschnitt der Anlagefläche der Bodenplatte 13 zu dem der Siebwalze 8 abgekehrten Ende hin etwas an.In the area between the two arms 6 on the one hand and the rear supports 2 on the other hand, a suction box 12 is arranged which is delimited on its underside facing the Fourdrinier screen by a base plate 13 which has numerous water passage openings and the underside of which forms the contact surface for a second sieve 14 . As the figure shows, the lowest point of the slightly cylindrical curved contact surface is approximately in the middle of the base plate. From here, the contact surface rises against the screen roller 8, that is, counter to the direction of travel of the wire, in such a way that the plane defined by this section of the contact surface touches the screen roller 8. Accordingly, the other section of the contact surface of the base plate 13 rises slightly towards the end facing away from the screen roller 8.

The suction box 12 has separate drain lines 15 and 16 for water and air. Furthermore, the suction box 12 is attached to the supporting frame 5 in a height-adjustable manner by means of threaded bolts 17. One of the threaded bolts 17 is, as the figure shows, arranged on each side of the suction box 12 near the front or rear edge of its cover, so that not only a height adjustment but also an inclination adjustment of the suction box is possible with the help of the threaded bolts 17 is, which engage in an adjustment sleeve in the support frame 5.

The second screen 14 is an endless Fourdrinier wire, which is brought up to the screen roller 8 from above in an approximately vertical direction and is then deflected in an approximately horizontal direction. Then the second sieve 14 runs over the underside of the bottom plate 13, which has the consequence that it has a slightly falling and then a slightly rising course to the lowest point of the underside of the bottom plate 13. A driven roller 18 carried by the rear supports 2 deflects the second screen 14 upward to a first deflection roller 19 which is arranged above and supported by the frame 4 and which is used to tension the second screen 14 about a distance from its axis of rotation Pivot axis 20 can be pivoted upward by motor. The second sieve 14 then runs over a second order Steering roller 21, which redirects it to the screen roller 8.

If, for example, with the aid of this device, the uppermost fiber layer of a nonwoven fabric lying on the Fourdrinier of the paper machine is to be made, the swing arm and the sieve roller 8 carried by it are adjusted with the aid of the pneumatic working cylinder 11 so that the nonwoven fabric is removed from the sieve roller 8 and the second sieve 14 guided over them experiences a certain compression. The result of this is that a water film is formed on both sides of the fleece, which has a substantially lower consistency than the fiber fleece before it is exposed to the surface pressure between the second sieve 14 and the wire. By reducing the fabric density, the fibers of the nonwoven surface are given so much freedom of movement that they can reorient.

The suction box 12 is adjusted so that the surface pressure exerted on the nonwoven fabric is also maintained between the screen roller and the bottom plate 13 of the suction box 12 and in the area of this bottom plate. Therefore, the water that emerges from the nonwoven fabric under the influence of the surface pressure cannot re-enter the nonwoven after leaving the screen roller 8. The water is partially sucked up by means of the suction box 12 through the bottom plate 13, with the result that the fibers of the top layer, which have been reoriented, are fixed so far that they no longer change their position, specifically even if the surface pressure stops after the fleece has left the area below the base plate 13.

By pivoting the rocker consisting of the support frame 5 and the frame 6, the screen roller 8 and the suction box 12 can be raised or lowered at the same time, whereby the screen roller and the suction box can be brought back into the same position with respect to the wire without difficulty after lifting that they have previously taken, which is essential to the setting of the device facilitated. The suction effect of the suction box 12 can be varied in order to suck the water up from the fleece with the required intensity.

If it is necessary or expedient to also suck off the water downwards, the fourdrinier sieve is guided in the area below the base plate 13 over at least one previously known drainage element which discharges the water downwards with adjustable strength.
