Abstract

1. A heavy-current plasmatron nozzle consisting of a single interchangeable insert (1) in the general form of a wearing element disposed centrally with respect to the cathode (4), a cooling jacket being provided for the nozzle, characterized in that the insert (1) is secured directly int he nozzle body by means of a solder (2) and the nozzle cooling is so adapted that the solder does not melt while the burner is in operation.

Description

The invention relates to a nozzle for a high-current plasmatron, the nozzle consisting of a single, interchangeable insert, designed as a wear part in its entirety, provided centrally to the cathode, and a cooling jacket being provided for the nozzle.

Plasma cartridges for welding, cutting and melting materials are known. They usually consist of a cathode block, the cathode and the cooling jacket with a nozzle surrounding the cathode. The plasma-forming gas flows between the cathode and the nozzle.

In a known nozzle with the features according to the preamble of claim 1 (GB-A-1 376 527), the nozzle insert is screwed into the nozzle holder.

In the case of plasma cartridges with currents of several kA, the nozzles are subject to severe wear due to very high temperatures and the formation of secondary arcs. Their shelf life is only a few hours. Attempts have been made to change the geometric shape of the nozzle to improve its service life, to improve its cooling and, as described in DD-A-131 218, to manufacture the nozzle from several rings which are fitted with a sliding seal and by means of screwing or a bayonet lock be attached.

The aim of the invention is to reduce the cost of materials for the repair, to reduce the repair time and the repair costs while at the same time increasing the service life of the nozzle.

According to the invention the object is achieved by the features listed in the claim.

The invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing. The nozzle insert 1, which is designed as a wearing part, is fastened centrally around the cathode 4 by means of the solder 2 in the nozzle body 3. During the burner's operating time, the nozzle is cooled so that the solder does not melt. After the nozzle insert 1 has worn, the solder 2 is melted by heating the nozzle and the nozzle insert 1 is thus separated from the nozzle body 3. The new nozzle insert 1 is then connected to the nozzle body 3, as described above.
