Abstract

A hairdressing implement, especially a hair curler which can be electrically heated, comprises a handle from which a curling mandrel extends, this mandrel being provided with a plurality of combs each having a pivotal bar parallel to the mandrel axis and disposed in angularly equispaced relationship therearound so that a free space is provided to accommodate a heater. A sleeve through which the tines of the combs pass, is rotatable relative to the mandrel body to swing the tines beneath the surface of the sleeve to release the hair. Fingers adjacent the opening of the sleeve serve to cam the tines outwardly upon rotation in the opposite sense.

Description

The invention relates to a hair curler for styling hair with a winding tube designed in a continuation of a handle, with pivoting rods mounted on the outer circumference of this winding tube parallel to the winding axis and rotatable about their longitudinal axes and equipped with a plurality of winding teeth, with one the winding tube and the pivoting rods surrounding sleeve with passage openings for the teeth, which are erected or folded through these passage openings when the sleeve is rotated relative to the winding tube or vice versa, and with a space between the winding tube and sleeve for the folded teeth.

In a known hair curler of this type (DE-A-2 551 508, FIGS. 5 and 6), the swivel rods mounted on the outer circumference of a winding tube are rotatable about their longitudinal axes and are equipped with a large number of winding prongs. There is also a sleeve surrounding the winder tube and the swivel rods with openings for these tines. By rotating the winder tube relative to the sleeve or vice versa, the tines can be partially retracted into a space between the winder tube and sleeve. A complete pulling of the tines into the interior of the sleeve is not possible, however, because neither the tines are suitable nor is there enough space inside the sleeve to completely accommodate the tines. There are also no precautions to allow the tines to be pushed out through the sleeve. Therefore, with this known hair curler the drawn-in wire tines still protrude from the sleeve and make it difficult to remove the hair curler from a wrapped hair roller, and vice versa, this hair curler cannot be inserted into curls of hair that have already been twisted for hairdressing because the hair is hanging on the protruding prongs stay. In another hair winding device (DE-C-818 549), a single comb with a row of teeth is mounted on a longitudinal axis in a sleeve-shaped winding mandrel in such a way that the comb can be pivoted in and out through a mandrel opening. Since this longitudinal axis is fixed in position relative to the mandrel housing and the comb is crescent-shaped, only a single comb with a row of teeth can be accommodated inside the winding mandrel. In a known topping bar (US-A-3 386 453) two pivoting bars with teeth arranged in a comb-like manner are provided. The movement of the combs is carried out by guide links formed on the housing ends and control cams engaging therein such that only one comb is always inside the housing, while the other comb protrudes from a relatively large housing opening, as is required for a topping rod. This hair styling device cannot be used as a curler.

The invention is therefore based on the object of designing a hair curler of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that a plurality of rows of teeth can be drawn into the interior of the winding mandrel simultaneously and completely and also erected again.

To achieve this object, the hair curler of the type mentioned at the outset according to the invention is characterized in that the space between the sleeve and the roller tube is designed to completely accommodate the teeth that have been turned over and that sliding surfaces are provided on the stop edges of the passage openings for straightening the teeth to be pushed out which protrude into the free space up to the ends of the folded teeth.

Due to the rotatable mounting of the swivel bars equipped with rows of teeth around a roller tube and the formation of a corresponding space, many rows of teeth can be accommodated in a hair curler. By means of the easy-to-operate sleeve, all winder teeth are moved simultaneously and without noticeable resistance, because the passage openings with their sliding surfaces ensure that the teeth can be easily straightened and folded over. Since the teeth of this hair curler can be pulled completely into the interior of the winding mandrel, it can be pulled out of any rolled-up hair roller without hindrance and without destroying the hair shape. Finally, the configuration of the winder tube according to the invention also enables a heating rod to be accommodated in its interior.

Teeth can be moved particularly easily if they are convexly curved against the uprighting movement. To improve the guidance, a passage opening is formed in the sleeve for each tooth.

A thick-walled winder tube can be used if there are annular grooves in it to support the swivel bars that are open to the outside and to accommodate the teeth that have been turned over. Such a winding tube can receive a heating rod and come into direct contact with its outer surface with the sleeve, whereby the heat transfer from the heating rod to the sleeve is promoted.

Further features of the invention can be found in the remaining subclaims.

  • Fig. 1 einen Längsschnitt,
  • Fig. 3 eine perspektivische Ansicht eines Wicklerrohrabschnittes, vergrössert.
A preferred embodiment of a hair curler according to the invention is described below with reference to a drawing. They represent:
  • 1 shows a longitudinal section,
  • Fig. 2 is a section along the line 11-11 of Fig. 1, enlarged, and
  • Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a winding tube section, enlarged.

A tubular extension 2 is formed on a handle 1 of a hair curler, into which a winding tube 3 is inserted and held in it in a rotationally secure manner by means of a screw 4. In a cavity 5 of this winder tube there is a heating element 6 with a connecting cable 7 A bearing cap 8 is attached to the open end of the winder tube and is stuck to the winder tube by means of a screw 9 and a locking spring 10. This bearing cap abuts with its bearing disc 12 on the winder tube and forms a bearing ring 13 into which the ends of pivot rods 15 protrude, which engage with their other ends in a bearing gap 16 between the sleeve 2 and a plug extension 14 of the winder tube 3. The swivel rods 15 thus run parallel to the winder axis and can be rotated or swiveled about their own longitudinal axis. A plurality of winder teeth 17, each aligned in a row, are formed on each of the pivot rods. In the illustrated embodiment, the swivel rods 15 are mounted in the longitudinal troughs 18 (FIGS. 2 and 3) of the winding tube 3. To accommodate the teeth 17 protruding from the swivel bars, the winding tube still has free spaces in the form of annular grooves 19 into which these teeth can be completely turned over (FIG. 2, dashed tooth 30). For this reason, the ring grooves are expediently somewhat deeper than the longitudinal troughs. The winding tube equipped with pivoting rods 15 in this way is enclosed by a sleeve 20 which is rotatable in this case and is in contact with it in order to obtain a direct transition for the heat emitted by the heating rod 6. The sleeve also overlaps the bearing disk 12 and is seated with its end 21 on a rotary handle 22. This cap-shaped twist grip is fixed by means of an inner guide ring 23 in a groove 24 of the bearing cap against axial displacement, but is rotatably supported in both directions about its longitudinal axis. The other end 25 of the sleeve ends near the extension 2. It can be covered by a protective sleeve 26. In the exemplary embodiment, the sleeve 20 has, for each tooth 17 of the rows of teeth, a passage opening 28 which is slightly larger than the tooth dimensions in the direction of rotation of the sleeve. Through these openings, the teeth are high in the working position (Fig. 2). These upstanding teeth are folded over when the sleeve is rotated in the direction of the arrow according to FIG. 2 with respect to the winder tube, because the abutting edges 29 of the passage openings abut the teeth and flip them over until they are on the annular groove 19 in the winder tube 3 rest (Fig. 2, dashed tooth 30). In this position, the teeth are inside the sleeve and the free ends 31 do not protrude from the through openings. If the teeth are to be straightened again, a counter-rotation is sufficient. The free tooth ends abut the adjacent stop edges 32, which are expanded to slide surfaces 33. The teeth are straightened along these sliding surfaces as the sleeve is turned further until they return to the operating position. Because the passage openings 28 are somewhat larger than the contours of the protruding teeth, they can be moved to a certain extent in the erection or operating position. In order to prevent this, too, only the sleeve needs to be turned back until the teeth are clamped inward in a slightly inclined position (FIG. 2, dashed tooth 35) between the two stop edges of the passage opening. The sliding surfaces 33 protruding into the winder tube must of course be narrower than the ring grooves 19 in order not to hinder the rotary movement.

It has proven to be expedient to limit the movement of the sleeve relative to the winder tube by a stop pin 36 anchored in the winder tube 3, which engages in a correspondingly long slot 37 in the sleeve and the stops of which determine the end-of-rotation positions. In order to also fix these rotational positions, a detent or a pawl (not shown) can also be attached to this pin 36 or in its place.

The use of the hair curler is simple and easy to carry out. Once the teeth of the winder are set up, it can be used like any other winder. If it is to be removed after the end of a treatment, for which purpose it usually has to be pulled out of a screwed-in lock of hair or roller, then the upstanding teeth are first pulled out of the hair by turning the rotary handle 22 counter-clockwise relative to the handle 1 until they are on the Winder tube is folded over and no longer protrude from the sleeve. In this position, the curler, which is essentially smooth on its surface, can then be removed from the lock of hair without hindrance.

The invention is not limited to the illustrated embodiment. The passage openings 28 could also extend over all or part of the length of the sleeve and thus capture several or all teeth in a row. The pivot rods 15 need not be accommodated in the longitudinal troughs of a reinforced winding tube if the winding tube has only a wall thickness which creates a free space between the tube and the sleeve, in which the pivot rods, for example with their ends, are then mounted. The teeth of the individual rows can be aligned with one another or offset from one another.

If only the rotation of the rotary handle 22 is mentioned in the above description, this does not rule out that only the handle or both handles are rotated accordingly in order to flip or straighten the teeth. Instead of the pin-shaped teeth, individual or bundles of bristles can also be provided. If these are sufficiently elastic, they can be folded over and erected on the sleeve or on the winding tube if the sliding surfaces are designed accordingly.
