Abstract

Aluminum foil labels for bottles are disclosed which have on both sides a colorless or colored coating provided with an imprint on the outside, if desired, the aluminum foil label being adapted to cover the closure and part of the bottle-neck and to be affixed thereto with the aid of a glue which is soluble in an alkaline cleaning liquor. In accordance with the invention the coating comprises a varnish coating which is insoluble in the alkaline cleaning liquor. The coating can have mutually opposite weak areas which can consist of uncoated stripes. Also disclosed are bottles comprising a bottle body to which is attached such aluminum foil coated on both sides thereof with a varnish coating which is insoluble in an alkaline cleaning liquor. The insoluble varnish coating defines open areas which are opposed from open areas on the opposed insoluble varnish coating.

Description

The invention relates to an aluminum foil label for bottles, which has a colorless or colored coating on both sides, which consists of a paint which is insoluble in alkaline cleaning baths, which is optionally provided with a printed image on the outside and with the use of a glue which is soluble in the cleaning baths the closure and part of the bottle neck are encasable.

Such aluminum foil labels have a thickness of 10 to 20 p.m, are relatively inexpensive and are used above all when the labels are to be removed again, e.g. B. of wine and beer bottles that are returned for the purpose of refilling. High processing speeds are also possible. Mainly dextrin, casein, plant and mixed glues are used to apply these labels. Sometimes, e.g. B. in the labeling of plastic bottles, dispersion adhesives are also used.

Products with a strongly alkaline setting are used for bottle cleaning - mostly caustic soda in a concentration of 1.5 to 3%, occasionally also sodium metasilicate - to which substances that have a wetting effect are added to make the alkaline active substance easier to distribute and to make it easier to remove the labels from the bottles.

Bottle cleaning is generally carried out in two steps. The first alkaline operation is the actual cleaning, in which the z. B. in a cell bottle for 3 to 10 minutes continuously through the strongly alkaline cleaning bath, which has a temperature of 75 to 90 ° C, runs. The coating of the aluminum foil label, the label itself and the glue are detached from the bottle without leaving any residue and simultaneously dissolved. In the second step, rinse with rinse aid and remove the alkalinity.

The alkaline process produces sodium aluminate and hydrogen, both of which are undesirable since sodium aluminate pollutes the waste water to an unacceptable degree and hydrogen creates a constant risk of explosion. Another disadvantage is the fact that in the presence of a deficit of alkaline active substance in the aqueous solution, aluminum hydroxide forms, which accumulates at the bottom of the cleaning container, solidifies there and can be removed again only with comparatively great effort and time can.

It has therefore already been proposed to provide such aluminum foil labels on both sides with an alkali-resistant coating. However, because labels of this type are very difficult to remove when cleaning bottles in the existing cleaning systems, provision has also been made to provide the metal foils coated on both sides with perforations distributed over the entire surface, which allow the wash liquor to pass through (DE-A-2 640 109). Such perforations have the disadvantage, however, that the glue penetrates when the labels are applied to the outside. As a result, the labeling devices become contaminated with glue and are therefore no longer usable after a short time, unless they are continuously cleaned, which is refused by the bottling companies because of the considerable additional effort. For this reason alone, perforation of the labels is not an option.

The disadvantage would also have an impact on the consumer. The actual purpose of the labels, to positively influence the buying behavior through decorations and advertising effects, would be reversed if the customer is constantly exposed to the risk of getting contaminated with the glue that has penetrated to the outside. Perforated labels are therefore unreasonable for the consumer.

It is therefore the object of the present invention to propose an aluminum foil label which, despite the alkali-resistant coating, can be removed relatively easily during bottle cleaning without the disadvantages described above occurring.

The solution to this problem is that in the case of an aluminum foil label described at the outset, opposing recesses are provided in the coating on both sides of the uninterrupted aluminum foil label.

In a further development of the inventive concept it is provided that the recesses are formed in strips. Furthermore, the cutouts can be filled with a soluble lacquer at least on the outside of the aluminum foil label. Finally, the coating can be left blank in accordance with the printed image applied to the outside.

During the washing process, the aluminum is dissolved in the area of these recesses and the alkaline wash liquor penetrates from here between the label and the bottle and dissolves the glue layer, the label being detached into several pieces at the same time, without dissolving more than 10% of the aluminum .

Embodiments of the invention are shown in FIGS. 1 to 3.

Auf der außenseitigen PVC-Lackschicht 2 befindet sich eine aus einem löslichen Lack bestehende zusätzliche Beschichtung 4.1 shows a cross section through an aluminum foil label 1 which is coated on both sides with a PVC lacquer 2, 2 'which is insoluble with respect to an alkaline active substance, with recesses 3, 3' lying opposite one another. An additional coating 4 consisting of a soluble lacquer is located on the outside PVC lacquer layer 2.

Die außenseitige Aussparung 3 ist mit einem löslichen Lack 5 ausgefüllt.FIG. 2 shows a cross section through an aluminum foil label 1, which has an insoluble in an alkaline active substance on both sides train 2, 2 'is coated, which has recesses 3, 3'. The outside recess 3 is filled with a soluble paint 5.
