Abstract
The invention relates to an aluminum foil label for bottles, which has a colorless or colored coating on both sides, is optionally provided with a printed image on the outside and with which the closure and part of the bottle neck can be encased using a glue which is soluble in an alkaline active substance. Such aluminum foil labels must be removed from return bottles before they can be reused. Strong alkaline detergents in which the aluminum dissolves are usually used for bottle cleaning. This produces sodium aluminate and hydrogen, both of which are undesirable. The sodium aluminate because of the wastewater pollution and the hydrogen because of the risk of explosion. To avoid these disadvantages, it is proposed according to the invention to provide the aluminum foil labels 1 with a coating 2, 2 'made of a lacquer (coating) which is insoluble in the alkaline active substance. It is further provided that the coating 2, 2 'has weak points 3, 3' lying opposite one another. Furthermore, there may also be a PVC lacquer layer 4 on the outside, which is soluble in the alkaline active substance.
Description
The invention relates to an aluminum foil label for bottles, which has a colorless or colored coating on both sides, is optionally provided on the outside with a printed image and with which the closure and part of the neck of the bottle using a glue soluble in an alkaline active substance. are encasable.
Such aluminum foil labels have a thickness of 10 to 20 pm, are relatively inexpensive and are used above all when the labels are to be removed again, e.g. of wine and beer bottles that are returned for the purpose of refilling. High processing speeds are also possible. Mainly dextrin, casein, plant and mixed glue are used to apply these labels. Sometimes, e.g. When labeling plastic bottles, dispersion adhesives are also used.
Products with a strongly alkaline setting are used for bottle cleaning - mostly caustic soda in a concentration of 1.5 to 3%, occasionally also sodium metasilicate - to which substances that have a wetting effect are added to make the alkaline active substance easier to distribute and to make it easier to remove the labels from the bottles.
Bottle cleaning is generally carried out in two steps. The first alkaline operation is the actual cleaning, in which the e.g. Bottle in a cell runs continuously for 3 to 10 minutes through the strongly alkaline cleaning bath, which has a temperature of 75 to 90 ° C. The coating of the aluminum foil label, the label itself and the glue are removed from the bottle without leaving any residue and simultaneously dissolved. In the second step, rinse with rinse aid and remove the alkalinity.
The alkaline process produces sodium aluminate and hydrogen, both of which are undesirable since sodium aluminate pollutes the waste water to an unacceptable degree and hydrogen creates a constant risk of explosion. Another disadvantage is the fact that in the presence of a deficit of alkaline active substance in the aqueous solution, aluminum hydroxide forms, which accumulates at the bottom of the cleaning container, solidifies there and can only be removed again with comparatively great effort and time can.
It is therefore the object of the present invention to develop measures by means of which it is possible to largely prevent the dissolution of the aluminum foil label of the type described in the introduction and the disadvantages associated therewith.
The solution to this problem is that the aluminum foil label is insoluble on both sides with an active substance that is alkaline Coating is provided so that the alkaline active substance practically only dissolves the glue from the edges of the label and this can be carried out essentially unaffected.
This measure can preferably be applied to aluminum foil labels where the glue is still relatively soft in the edge areas, i.e. for labels where the time between application and removal is relatively short.
However, in order to be able to remove such labels in the short passage time through the cleaning bath, at the edges of which the glue has already hardened, the coating is provided with opposing weak points on each side. The alkaline active substance penetrates through these weak points, dissolves the aluminum only at the weak points and, from here, the glue layer that is still relatively soft within the more or less hardened edge areas of the label, whereby the label is divided into several pieces at the same time, but at most only 10% of the aluminum can be dissolved.
In the context of the special embodiment of the invention, the insoluble coating is left out in the area of the weak points, and according to a further feature of the invention, at least external weak points with a soluble coating can be verSE.
The weak points can also be created by signing and decorating using a printed image.
