Definitions
- the invention relates to an automatically operating method for the direct or immediate production of book blocks from printed sheets.
- book block is understood to mean all products or the like for book production, brochure, magazine production. be further processed by a wire stitching, side stitching, thread stitching, perfect binding or the like. can connect.
- the process for making a book block is dependent on the previous printing process.
- a basic distinction is made between sheetfed and web printing processes. While methods for the continuous, automatic production of book blocks that work at high speed have been developed for web printing processes, this has not yet been satisfactorily achieved in the production of book blocks from printed sheets.
- the sheets coming from the sheet-fed printing machine are stacked on pallets using the conventional method, each sheet is removed individually from the pallet, folded to the position with a cross fold, the layers are scaled, pushed open, bundled, tied up and stacked on pallets, the pallets to collating machines conveyed, a pallet being required for each station or for each magazine of the collating machine. Subsequently, several different layers are combined in the collating machine to form the book block blank and then, for example, an adhesive binding or the like. carried out. This involves a lot of manual work, which slows down the process considerably.
- the sheet-fed printing process with subsequent book block production in particular does not have these disadvantages, but is often not applicable because the manual work and the low working speed make the process unrivaled.
- a method has therefore already been proposed which permits the automatic, continuous, direct production of book blocks from printed sheets, which is variable in terms of format and edition, and which operates at a relatively high speed regardless of the preceding printing method.
- the proposed method for producing a book block from printed sheets should be characterized in that the sheets in the stack are fed to feeders, the feeders stack the sheets into a sheet package, the sheets are fixed in the package position, the package is cut into parallel strips, the strips preferably folded in the middle about a longitudinal axis, preferably cross-cut into layers and the layers are collected into the book block blank.
- the procedure is similar in that the printed images or information of an entire calendar year or of all calendar months of a calendar year are printed on a sheet, the sheets are stacked, preferably fed to a feeder as a stack, by the feeder individual sheets are placed on a continuously running conveyor belt, transported from the conveyor belt to a cutting station, where they are cut lengthwise and crosswise, so that individual calendar sheets are created, the calendar sheets are arranged one above the other to form the calendar block blank, and the block blank is processed to the calendar block in a manner known per se .
- the object of the invention is to provide a further considerable simplification of the direct method for producing a book block from printed sheets, wherein essentially known machines are also to be used while using very little space.

- a method for direct, automatic production of the book block of printed sheets which is characterized in that each printed sheet transported by a feeder to a folding machine and a parallel fold, preferably - as with transverse to the conveying direction of folding edges, is then folded, the sheet thus folded is cut longitudinally into layers with cut edges lying parallel to the conveying direction, a layer stream, preferably a shingled stream, is formed from the cut layers, the layer streams according to the grid dimension of a collecting device, preferably a gathering machine or a saddle stitcher, spread like a delta are, the layers of the layer streams picked up by the collecting device, cross-conveyed in a known manner and collected to the book block blank and then the blanks or the like in a known manner to the book block.
- the parallel fold is preferably designed as a three-fold parallel fold. In this case, the gripper edges on the printed sheets do not have to be separated separately as usual. However, it can also be designed as a wrap fold or zigzag fold. A cross fold could follow the parallel fold.
- the combination of the machine elements according to the invention essentially consists of the functional arrangement of a feeder with a single-stage parallel folding machine and a collecting device, such as a collating machine or saddle stitcher.
- the invention also relates to the functional combination of these machine elements or the use of a feeder with a parallel folding machine connected downstream and the latter collecting device connected downstream in a technically coupled functional unit.
- a plurality of technically functional units essentially consisting of a feeder and a parallel folding machine, arranged next to one another, are preferably used for feeding one or more collecting devices. It goes without saying that the cutting devices, conveying means and shingled stream-forming devices required for the number of units are provided.
- feeders are preferably set up side by side.
- the procedure can also be carried out with an investor.
- the feeders are preferably set up so that the sheets 1 are applied transversely.
- this transverse application has the advantage that a wide edge 2 is available for aligning the sheet during folding and cutting, which is known to result in a significantly lower susceptibility to stoppers.
- the investors work expediently in non-stop operation.
- the usual means of transport (not shown) follow the investors.
- the means of transport transport the sheet 1 into a parallel folding machine without changing the direction .
- the folded sheet 3 is preferably also cut lengthwise in the folding machine, with a good alignment of the sheet 3 on the long parallel folding edge 4 being possible.
- Longitudinal cutting with known cutting devices results in the layers 6 with the cutting edges 5.
- the cut layers 6 can then be transported in a front by a press roller 6a in order to achieve sharp fold edges. As a result, perforation that is otherwise customary is not required.
- Each layer 6 is then fed to the layer stream 7 of the corresponding layers of the pre-sheets using known transport means.
- a scale stream 8 is preferably formed from the layers 6.
- the shingled stream 8 is also produced and transported using known devices and serves to buffer the material.
- the layer streams 7 or scale streams 8 spread like a delta and thus fanned out in the transport direction and thus form a layer stream fan 8a, the spreading angle corresponding to the grid dimension of the magazines the collecting machine or the compartment of the transport chain of a collecting machine is selected.
- the layers 9 of the scale stream 8 or layer stream 7 are then each conveyed into the magazine of a collecting device. From there, the layers are individually pulled off in a manner known per se and conveyed crosswise for the actual collection according to the direction of the arrow. According to a special embodiment of the invention, the intermediate stacking of the collecting devices can be switched off.
- the front layer 9 is then taken over directly from the layer flow and transported directly onto the transport chain or the like. the collecting device.
- the layers are collected in the collecting device in a manner known per se to form a block blank, which is then stapled or bound in a manner known per se.
- the method according to the invention offers the possibility, in particular, of a quarter arch in a simple manner. for example, to increase in the collecting device.
- a sheet 1a can be processed in the second feeder, which is printed more narrowly according to a layer or is narrower by default. Then an idle current 10 is created, so that at 11 a quarter arc can be fed in a known manner. But you can also increase the spread angle of one or more layer flows 7a, so that a magazine between two others of a collecting device is not loaded.
- a quarter sheet or the like can then, as shown at 12. are fed.
- the new method can also be done in a simple manner mis-sheet compensation can be performed.
- the absence of a sheet is automatically determined in a known manner in the layer stream 7,8 or at any point beforehand.
- the transport speed of the next layer is then automatically increased to avoid a gap, or if there is a gap in the layer flow, the layer flow speed is increased accordingly if the gap reaches the transport chain of the collecting device, for example.
- the collecting device is conveyed into a magazine
- the missing sheet is automatically compensated in the magazine because all layers are stacked there. Stops can be compensated in the same way. Stopping a machine is particularly easy due to the buffering resulting from the shingled stream.
- the combination of layers of large arches and small arches can be realized in the river, as is indicated for arch 1a, if, for example, no quarter arch is to be fed in at 11. Then only the layers of sheet 1 of the first or another investor are combined with the smaller number of layers of sheet 1a (small jump in page numbers).
- a customary test run particularly because of the scaling of the layer flow, can be carried out very easily without a substantial number of waste being produced.
- the set-up time for the machines used is very short.
- the layers can also be combined with one another in the come-and-go process in the collecting device. All that is required is that the printed sheets are processed side by side in the appropriate order. It is also possible to interpose a turning device between the collecting device and the further processing machine switch so that the book block blanks can also be collected as double book block halves and can be put together to turn the double book block blank.
- the double sheet compensation is carried out with the device shown in FIG. 2.
- This device is combined with a known feeder 13.
- a sheet is conveyed from the feeder to the folding machine (not shown) using a lifting suction device 14 and a drag suction device 15.
- the sheet is moved by the separating device 16.
- This device consists of two cooperating transport rollers 17 and 18, preferably perforated on the jacket, which have suction cups 19 or similar suction elements on the inside and can be constructed according to the suction wheel according to German utility model 71 11 076. If it is measured at 20 in the usual way that a raised floor 21 is conveyed, the suction elements 19 of the transport rollers 17 and 18 are set in motion, so that the rollers pull the sheets 21 apart.
- the upper sheet 21 is preferably guided by a deflector 24 onto deflecting rollers 22 which decelerate the movement of the upper sheet relative to the speed of the lower sheet 21a, so that the upper sheet follows the lower sheet as desired. If no double sheet is reported, each sheet from the feeder runs through the transport rollers 17 and 18 without the suction elements 19 being in operation. This makes it easy to separate double sheets.
- the method and the device for separating double sheets can of course not only be used in connection with the method according to the invention for the direct production of book blocks, but can also be used wherever double sheets are to be separated.
- FIG. 3 shows a machine family tree with the most important machines for the combination according to the invention.
- a collating machine 29 with magazines 30 into which the layers 9 of the layer flow 7, 8 are conveyed.
- the collating machine 29 can have magazines 31 for front sheets or the like at the beginning and / or end.
- the collator promotes transversely to the conveying direction of combining units, wherein arranged downstream of the collating machine 29 in the conveying direction, a perfect binder 32 with the OA - union means can follow.
- a perfect binder 32 with the OA - union means can follow.
- the inventive combination of, among other things, known devices according to a further embodiment according to FIGS. 4 to 7 essentially consists of a plurality of flat stack sheet feeders 25 equipped with pallets 26 carrying a stack of sheets, which are arranged in a row next to one another.
- Alignment belts 27 adjoin the flat pile sheet feeders, to which folding units 28, preferably parallel folding units, are arranged.
- These folding machines preferably have cutting units at the outlet, which are the folded ones Slice layers so that several benefits, e.g. B. 50 a, b, c arise (Fig. 6,7).
- the folding units convey the folded layer of a sheet onto downstream buffer belts 38, on which a continuous stream of scales is formed from the layers.
- the buffer belts can be driven at different speeds.
- This simple measure can compensate for missing sheets.
- the absence of a sheet is automatically determined in the layer stream or at any point beforehand in a known manner.
- the transport speed of the next layer is then automatically increased in order to avoid a gap, or if there is a gap in the layer flow, the layer flow speed is correspondingly increased when the gap reaches the collecting device, for example.
- the buffer belts preferably convey into a collecting box 39, so that the missing sheet is then automatically compensated for in the collecting box because all the layers are stacked there. Stops can be compensated in the same way. Stopping a machine is therefore also not a problem due to the buffering resulting from the shingled stream.
- a collecting conveyor 34 is provided under the inclined roller tables and also transversely to each combination unit.
- the collecting conveyor belt 34 can expediently be connected at the end in the transport direction to an erecting belt 35, which can be followed by a front sheet magazine 36 with a front adhesive device, which magazine 36 can be followed directly by a known perfect binder 37 (FIG. 6).
- the combination according to the invention of the inclined roller tables 33 with the collecting conveyor belt 34 is particularly expedient and uncomplicated, also in connection with the combination elements described above.
- folded layers are conveyed from the collecting boxes 34 onto the inclined roller table 33 and aligned there in a manner known per se.
- Inclined roller tables and their mode of operation are known and therefore do not need to be described separately.
- the aligned position at the outlet of the inclined roller table is preferably pressed with two press rolls 41 arranged one above the other and thereby stabilized in its spatial form or pressed in such a way that it lies optimally flat.
- the layer is then conveyed into a vertically standing feed shaft 42 arranged above the collecting conveyor belt 34, from which it falls vertically downwards onto the conveyor belt or onto an already formed layer stack.
- the squeeze rollers can be driven at different speeds, so that, for. B. a delayed arriving location can be accelerated and then reached the tray in time.
- Driving pins 43 are provided which project vertically upwards, reach behind the layer stack, guide it and reach behind the layer which is to be placed on a stack.
- a further embodiment of the invention provides that the inclined roller tables 33 with the squeeze rollers 41 are arranged directly after the folding machines 28, so that the folding machines feed the layers directly to the inclined roller tables (FIG. 5). With this arrangement, the space requirement of the system and the machine park are reduced considerably.
- an additional device for buffering and feeding the layers onto the collecting conveyor belt can expediently be provided for the blank cycle or blank sheet or waste compensation.
- This device is shown in FIGS. 6 and 7 in detail.
- a folding unit 28 conveys directly to an inclined roller table 33.
- Such a table has the rollers 45 arranged obliquely in the horizontal plane and the stop or alignment bar 46. The function of such a table is known and is therefore not described in the context of the invention.
- the pressing rollers 41 are arranged, which guide the layers onto a buffer belt system 47 and of which at least one roller or roller is spring-loaded adjustable, so that the folded layers can be pressed with the required pressure.
- the combination units consisting of feeder, alignment table, folding machine, buffer straps, collecting box and pulling device, as well as from inclined roller table, arranged in front of each other.
- the combination units convey onto a common collecting belt, which is arranged parallel to the combination units.
- Combination units without an inclined roller table can feed directly onto a collecting belt arranged under the units.
- the buffer belt system 47 adjoins - as described - the pressing rollers 41 and is guided under the inclined roller table 33 following in the transport direction, that is to say into the space between an inclined roller table 33 and the collecting conveyor belt 34.
- the length of the buffer belt system depends on the number of layers that are required for buffering. In the example shown, a buffer belt system has six layers and even extends almost up to the next but one slant roller table 33.
- the buffer belt systems 47 are thus arranged in a scale-like manner from the side, i.e. they overlap by a certain distance over the collecting conveyor 34, which results in a small space requirement (FIG. 6).
- a buffer belt system 47 preferably consists of an upper belt system 48 and a lower belt system 49, between which the layers 50 or collected panels 50 a, b, c are transported.
- the belt systems 48 and 49 in turn preferably consist - as known per se - of several conveyor belts lined up, e.g. B. 48 a to i or 49 a to i, wherein the individual conveyor belts have a plurality of parallel runs parallel to each other at a distance and end, as shown in Fig. 7 for the conveyor belts 48 a to d, on an axis 51 next to each other Deflection rollers for the end of the run of one conveyor belt and for the beginning of the run of the following conveyor belt are arranged.
- the roles for the individual runs of the following conveyor belt are each in the gaps between the runs of the previous conveyor belt (Fig. 7).
- the conveyor belts 48 a and 49 a are expediently arranged in a V-shape or funnel shape, as seen from the side, the opening of the funnel being at the beginning of the conveyor belt (FIG. 6 ).
- touch elements preferably consist of photocells.
- the task of the pushbuttons is described below.
- a lever system 54 connected to a piston-cylinder arrangement 53 can be fastened to the frame of the conveyor belt 48 a, which has a pawl 54 a that can be pivoted into the outlet gap of the conveyor belts 48 a, 49 a and thereby blocks the gap.
- a pressure roller 48 k is arranged between the upper and lower run of the conveyor belt 48 a, which loads the lower run and the incoming benefit 50 a on the upper run of the conveyor belt 49 a or on the previous benefit 50 b presses (Fig. 6).
- a switch plate 55 can preferably be provided with a receiving box 56 for discharging waste.
- the switch plate is arranged in such a way that it can be pivoted downward under the area of the discharge gap 57 of the buffer belt system 47 to accommodate the waste, while during normal operation of the system it is above the discharge gap 57 (FIG. 6).
- a longitudinally slotted guide plate 58 onto which the layers 50 are pushed by the buffer belt.
- the drivers 43 of the collecting conveyor belt 34 can slide and take the stored layer 50 with them, so that it is deposited at the end of the guide plate on the existing layer stack 60 or directly on the collecting belt 34.
- the guide plate is angled downward in the end area, so that the layer is guided directly to the respective layer stack height.
- the buffer belt system 47 thus offers the possibility of compensating for waste and missing sheets, in that in such cases only the collecting conveyor belt 34 and the combination units of the system are stopped in front of the collecting conveyor belt, in which no waste or no missing sheet has occurred. The plant parts are stopped until the unit in which the missing sheet or the waste has occurred has deposited a further correct layer on the layer stack 60 provided or on the collecting conveyor belt. The system then starts up again completely. With the touch elements 52 the waste or the missing sheet is found. The pushbuttons provide an impulse with which all system units and the collecting conveyor belt are stopped with the aid of suitable switching elements, with the exception of the unit in which the missing sheet or the waste was found.
- the buffer belt offers sufficient time for these switching operations and for stopping and restarting because it has taken up and stored several layers.
- the arrangement of the buffer belt systems 47 according to the invention is particularly space-saving, as shown in FIG. 6.
- a buffer belt system consists of uncomplicated elements, so that their function can be guaranteed without difficulty.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an automatically operating method for the direct or immediate production of book blocks from printed sheets. In the sense of the invention, the term “book block” is understood to mean all products or the like for book production, brochure, magazine production. be further processed by a wire stitching, side stitching, thread stitching, perfect binding or the like. can connect.
The process for making a book block is dependent on the previous printing process. A basic distinction is made between sheetfed and web printing processes. While methods for the continuous, automatic production of book blocks that work at high speed have been developed for web printing processes, this has not yet been satisfactorily achieved in the production of book blocks from printed sheets. The sheets coming from the sheet-fed printing machine are stacked on pallets using the conventional method, each sheet is removed individually from the pallet, folded to the position with a cross fold, the layers are scaled, pushed open, bundled, tied up and stacked on pallets, the pallets to collating machines conveyed, a pallet being required for each station or for each magazine of the collating machine. Subsequently, several different layers are combined in the collating machine to form the book block blank and then, for example, an adhesive binding or the like. carried out. This involves a lot of manual work, which slows down the process considerably.
The well-known web printing processes with continuous automatic book block production work very quickly, but are not available for all printing processes - letterpress, planographic and gravure printing, are difficult to control, often not sufficiently variable in format and print run, are strongly influenced by fluctuations in paper thickness, enable the use of quarter arches only with considerable effort and it is almost impossible above all, for example add multi-colored sheet parts, which is often required.
In contrast, the sheet-fed printing process with subsequent book block production in particular does not have these disadvantages, but is often not applicable because the manual work and the low working speed make the process unrivaled.
A method has therefore already been proposed which permits the automatic, continuous, direct production of book blocks from printed sheets, which is variable in terms of format and edition, and which operates at a relatively high speed regardless of the preceding printing method. (In the case of the direct or immediate production of a book block, the process flow from feeding the printed sheets to creating the block should not be under be broken). The proposed method for producing a book block from printed sheets should be characterized in that the sheets in the stack are fed to feeders, the feeders stack the sheets into a sheet package, the sheets are fixed in the package position, the package is cut into parallel strips, the strips preferably folded in the middle about a longitudinal axis, preferably cross-cut into layers and the layers are collected into the book block blank. According to a further proposal for the production of calendar blocks, the procedure is similar in that the printed images or information of an entire calendar year or of all calendar months of a calendar year are printed on a sheet, the sheets are stacked, preferably fed to a feeder as a stack, by the feeder individual sheets are placed on a continuously running conveyor belt, transported from the conveyor belt to a cutting station, where they are cut lengthwise and crosswise, so that individual calendar sheets are created, the calendar sheets are arranged one above the other to form the calendar block blank, and the block blank is processed to the calendar block in a manner known per se .
These two proposed methods already work relatively quickly and above all largely with known machines. The object of the invention is to provide a further considerable simplification of the direct method for producing a book block from printed sheets, wherein essentially known machines are also to be used while using very little space. Above all, the new method is intended to enable stopper and / or missed sheet and / or double sheet compensation and buffering without an effective interruption.
This object is inventively achieved by a method for direct, automatic production of the book block of printed sheets, which is characterized in that each printed sheet transported by a feeder to a folding machine and a parallel fold, preferably - as with transverse to the conveying direction of folding edges, is then folded, the sheet thus folded is cut longitudinally into layers with cut edges lying parallel to the conveying direction, a layer stream, preferably a shingled stream, is formed from the cut layers, the layer streams according to the grid dimension of a collecting device, preferably a gathering machine or a saddle stitcher, spread like a delta are, the layers of the layer streams picked up by the collecting device, cross-conveyed in a known manner and collected to the book block blank and then the blanks or the like in a known manner to the book block. to be stapled or bound. The parallel fold is preferably designed as a three-fold parallel fold. In this case, the gripper edges on the printed sheets do not have to be separated separately as usual. However, it can also be designed as a wrap fold or zigzag fold. A cross fold could follow the parallel fold.
With these astonishingly simple means it is thus possible to carry out a method for the direct production of book blocks, whereby besides conveying devices known machine elements are combined with one another in a confined space in such a way that direct book block production from printed sheets succeeds. The combination of the machine elements according to the invention essentially consists of the functional arrangement of a feeder with a single-stage parallel folding machine and a collecting device, such as a collating machine or saddle stitcher.
In this respect, the invention also relates to the functional combination of these machine elements or the use of a feeder with a parallel folding machine connected downstream and the latter collecting device connected downstream in a technically coupled functional unit.
Preferably, several sheets are processed side by side, so that several identical book block blanks can be produced at the same time. Accordingly, a plurality of technically functional units, essentially consisting of a feeder and a parallel folding machine, arranged next to one another, are preferably used for feeding one or more collecting devices. In the flow diagram of FIG. 1, only the products produced in the individual stations are shown for illustration, without showing the machine units, because the machines are known devices. According to the method according to the invention, several feeders are preferably set up side by side. Of course, the procedure can also be carried out with an investor. The feeders are preferably set up so that the sheets 1 are applied transversely. Compared to the prior art, according to which length is usually applied longitudinally, this transverse application has the advantage that a
The method according to the invention offers the possibility, in particular, of a quarter arch in a simple manner. for example, to increase in the collecting device. E.g. a
The new method can also be done in a simple manner mis-sheet compensation can be performed. For this purpose, the absence of a sheet is automatically determined in a known manner in the
According to a special embodiment of the invention, the double sheet compensation is carried out with the device shown in FIG. 2. This device is combined with a known
There are several flat
B. 50 a, b, c entstehen (Fig. 6,7). The inventive combination of, among other things, known devices according to a further embodiment according to FIGS. 4 to 7 essentially consists of a plurality of flat
There is a slope diagonally in front of each combination unit, consisting of feeder alignment table, automatic folding machine, buffer belts, collecting box and, if necessary, puller 40 roller table 33 arranged, a collecting
The combination according to the invention of the inclined roller tables 33 with the collecting
Between the
A further embodiment of the invention provides that the inclined roller tables 33 with the
In particular in the embodiment according to FIG. 2, an additional device for buffering and feeding the layers onto the collecting conveyor belt can expediently be provided for the blank cycle or blank sheet or waste compensation. This device is shown in FIGS. 6 and 7 in detail. A
The combination units, consisting of feeder, alignment table, folding machine, buffer straps, collecting box and pulling device, as well as from inclined roller table, arranged in front of each other. In this case, the combination units convey onto a common collecting belt, which is arranged parallel to the combination units. Combination units without an inclined roller table can feed directly onto a collecting belt arranged under the units.
B. 48 a bis i bzw.
At the end of each
Below the
The
