Die Achsstummel 106 setzen sich in verjüngte Zapfenabschnitte 108 fort, die ein Vierkant oder ähnliches Profil aufweisen. Auf den Zapfen abschnitten 108 sind die segmente 17 aufgeschoben. Beiderseits der Segmente können Haltescheiben 110 angeordnet sein. Dir Zapfenabschnitte 108 sind durch ein Distanzrohr 112 miteinander verbunden.According to FIG. 6, the pivot axis 14 consists of two axle journals 106 which are fixedly connected to the fitting parts 53 fastened to the surrounding frame 10. The bolts 96 for guiding the outer wedge pieces 78 are fastened in the axle journals. The stub axles 106 continue into tapered pin sections 108 which have a square or similar profile. On the pin sections 108, the segments 17 are pushed. Holding disks 110 can be arranged on both sides of the segments. The pin sections 108 are connected to one another by a spacer tube 112.

Claims (8)

1. A piece of furniture for sitting and lying, more particularly a sickbed having a support surface divided into head, central and foot portions (16, 28, 26), and a stationary frame (10) supporting said central portion (28), said head and foot portions (16, 26) being pivotally mounted to said central portion (28) about horizontal axes (14, 24) and adjustable between horizontal and inclined positions by shifting the weight of the user's body, and further being adapted to be braked by a locking means, and said head portion (16) having lower lugs (12) and a spring means (38; 42) operative about said pivot axis (14) of the head portion and held by said stationary frame (10), characterized in that the force of said spring means (38; 52) is dimensioned and engaging said head portion (16) such that the gravity component of the non-arrested head portion (16) is balanced, when oriented within an angular range including upwardly inclined positions of said head portion (16), that said lugs consist of frame extensions (20) extending within the plane of the head portion frame and beyond said pivot axis (14), said extensions having boltlike supporting elements (22) for being guided within slots (30) of longitudinal members (28) of said central portion, and in that the ends of said slots (30) curved upwards towards said head portion (16).

An article of furniture for sitting or lying, according to claim 1, characterized in that said spring means is a torsion spring (38) extending over the width of the head portion (16) and with both ends secured to said stationary frame (10), and with its intermediate portion fixedly connected to said head portion (16).

A piece of furniture for sitting or lying, according to claim 2, characterized in that said torsion spring (38) has both of its ends connected to said head portion (16), while intermediately thereof being non-rotatingly connected to said pivot axis (14), which is fixedly mounted to said stationary frame (10).
4. A piece of furniture for sitting or lying according to claim 2 or 3, characterized in that the torsion spring (38) is adjustably mounted with respect to its initial stress to act upon said head portion (16).

A piece of furniture for sitting or lying according to claim 1, characterized in that said spring means consists of two tension springs (52) each held at one end on the side of said stationary frame (10), the other ends being connected to necks (17) projecting from said head portion (16), and in that fittings (59) on the stationary frame (10) are provided with spaced apart prejections (61) for suspending said other spring ends and for adjusting the spring tension.

A piece of furniture for sitting or lying, according to claim 5, characterized in that said neck (17) on the lower side of the head portions are vertically extending sheet-metal segments (17) containing a slot (63) disposed arcuately around the pivot axis (14) of the head portion (16) and guiding a transverse shaft (62) supported by said stationary frame (16) and carrying said locking device (76).

A piece of furniture for sitting or lying, according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the load-bearing longitudinal members of the central portion (28) are pivotally mounted on a transverse axis (24) secured to said stationary frame (10) and also supporting said foot portion (26).
8. A piece of furniture for sitting or lying, according to claim 1, characterized in that the portion of said slots (30) adjacent said head portion (16) is upwardly inclined such that the bolt-like supporting members (22), when said head portion (16) is in relatively upright position, receive from the upper side of said slots (30) a component of force directed to the slot end.
