Description

The present invention relates to a loudspeaker housing according to the preamble of patent claim 1.

Known loudspeaker housings mainly consist of foiled chipboard, which are assembled using the folding method.

From US-A 2 973 824 a loudspeaker housing is known which is arranged in an outer frame. This outer frame consists essentially of individual struts, which are surrounded by a textile fabric, of which it is not clearly stated that it is drawn over the struts in a tubular manner.

A 15 12 746 describes a loudspeaker box which consists of a fully filled foam plastic part which envelops the loudspeaker (s) on the back in a form-fitting manner. The outer surfaces of the box are provided with an impact-resistant cover, which consists of a plastic film or a wooden pad. There is a disadvantage in that the cover is easily damaged after the box is manufactured. In addition, the process steps required to apply such coatings are complex and expensive.

The object of the present invention is to provide a loudspeaker housing made of styrofoam, in which damage occurring after manufacture is invisible and in which a separate covering of the sound outlet openings is not required.

This object is achieved by a speaker housing as mentioned at the outset, which is characterized by the features listed in the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

A major advantage of the invention is that loudspeaker housings of all sizes according to the invention are considerably cheaper than comparable loudspeaker housings that are made from foiled chipboard using the folding process or consist of one piece.

Advantageously, the textile tubular fabric not only covers damage of the aforementioned type that arises during use, but also irregularities in the surface of the housing caused by the manufacturing process. These irregularities are, for example, air nozzle, bullet and ejector marks.

The fact that in the loudspeaker cabinets according to the invention no separate covering of the baffle is required leads to a further reduction in cost, since on the one hand additional material and on the other hand complex additional work steps can be saved.

The invention and its configuration are explained below in connection with the figures.

Es zeigt:

  • Fig. 1 ein Textilschlauchgewebe;
  • Fig. 2 ein Lautsprechergehäuse; und
  • Fig. 3 einen Schnitt durch eine Schallwand,

It shows:
  • 1 shows a textile tubular fabric;
  • 2 shows a loudspeaker housing; and
  • 3 shows a section through a baffle,

which is made in one piece together with the speaker baskets and in which the membrane and the magnets are mounted after the baffle has been manufactured.

The following considerations led to the invention. The production of loudspeaker housings from a foamable material was previously not possible because the surfaces of such housings are easily damaged due to their softness. For example, bumps or other effects on the surface result in notches, dents or scratches, which then impair the aesthetic effect of such housings or boxes. On the other hand, the surfaces also have irregularities due to the manufacturing process, which also impair the aesthetic effect. As already mentioned, these irregularities result from manufacturing-related air nozzle, bullet and ejector markings. In a speaker housing made of styrofoam, it is not possible to eliminate these manufacturing-related irregularities by sanding the surface of the housing and then varnishing or veneering, since styrofoam is attacked or decomposed by most solvents that are in paints and adhesives becomes.

The invention is based on the fact that a loudspeaker housing made of a styrofoam foam is covered with a textile tube fabric which is pulled over the housing like a stocking. The tight, flat fabric that spans all four side walls of the loudspeaker housing, which consists of a sound-permeable material, conceals the irregularities caused by the production of the housing, and also later impressions made in the surface of the housing.

This housing has cutouts 3 to 5 on the front side, for example, into which the individual loudspeakers are later inserted. At the bottom of the housing 1, a groove 6 is preferably provided for later accommodation of the electrical connection cable. Stiffeners or struts 7 are visible behind the recesses 3 to 5. The housing 1 is open at the back, for example. This back is later preferably closed by a chipboard that is inserted flush and fastened. It is also conceivable for the housing 1 so that it is closed at the back and open at the front. In this case, a baffle with the individual loudspeakers is later inserted in the opening on the front. To produce a loudspeaker housing that is constructed in the manner described above, styrofoam with a minimum density of about 100 to 120 g / ltr. foamed. Dense Styrofoam beads are not foamed as much as usual. As a result, a loudspeaker housing is removed from the manufacturing mold, which is so firm that its surface can hardly be pressed in, for example, with a fingernail 1 mm deep. The styrofoam housing thus obtained is extremely stable and resilient. Advantageously, the mold used in manufacturing is cheaper than molds previously used in connection with the processing of other foamable materials.

In order to cover up the already mentioned irregularities caused by the manufacture, after inserting the loudspeakers and / or the rear wall or after inserting the baffle having the loudspeakers, an image is shown in FIG . 2 drawn with 8 tubular textile fabric drawn over the side walls of the housing 1. This textile tubular fabric preferably consists of an extremely sound-permeable material, for example of smooth synthetic fibers. The shape used in the production or foaming is preferably designed such that the loudspeaker housing does not have sharp, but only rounded edges. Before the textile tubular fabric is applied, the side walls are preferably colored with a color that corresponds to the color of the textile tubular fabric and does not attack the styrofoam. When using a black textile tubular fabric 8, the side walls of the housing 1 are painted, for example, with a black binder paint. After the textile tubular fabric has been pulled tightly over the side walls, the fabric is fastened in a suitable manner to the upper side and to the lower side of the housing, for example clipped on. The upper side and lower side can then be covered with inexpensive plastic lids with a color and surface grain matching the textile tubular fabric.

The present invention provides that in a housing manufactured in the manner described above with an open front side, a baffle having individual speakers is inserted into the open front side. So far, baffles have been made from chipboard, metal or plastic panels. These known baffles have recesses into which the loudspeaker chassis with sheet metal or cast baskets are inserted. According to the present invention, it is provided to improve baffles in that, as can be seen from FIG. 3, the baffles and the speaker baskets are made from one piece and from one material. In Fig. 3 the baffle is designated 9. This baffle has recesses 10, 11, 12 at predetermined locations which correspond to the baskets of the individual loudspeakers. An opening is provided at the lower end of each well. In the manner shown in FIG. 3, the magnets 13, 14, 15 and membranes 16, 17, 18 are assembled in one piece after the baffle has been produced. Compared to the previously customary assembly of individual speaker chassis in recesses provided in baffles, the baffle according to the invention, which is made from one piece, has the following advantages. While several shapes, namely a shape for the baffle and further shapes for the individual loudspeaker baskets, are required to produce the known baffles, only a single shape needs to be used in the manufacture of the baffle for a loudspeaker housing according to the invention. With this baffle, all the loudspeakers are advantageously assembled in one production step, while in the known baffles the loudspeakers first have to be assembled and then inserted into the baffle. The manufacturing step saved leads to a reduction in manufacturing costs. Finally, in the case of a baffle for a loudspeaker housing according to the invention, the connection between the loudspeaker chassis and the baffle is particularly durable and closed because it consists of one piece.
