Abstract

A mineral fibre web 38 has markings running at right angles to its longitudinal direction or direction of feed applied to the web surface 41 by means of a roller 1 with peripherally lying corresponding heating zones in the form of heating bars 26 which is rotated at such a speed of revolution that the heating bars 26 and the marking ribs 30 corresponding to these are co-driven by the surface 41 of the mineral fibre web 38 without any essential slip. The heating bars 26 and the marking ribs 30 consist of metal and are heated electrically by an internal tube-heating body 32 to such a temperature that on contact with the surface 41 of the mineral fibre web 38 a dissolution zone 43 of a small depth corresponding to the contour of the marking ribs 30 appears, in which zone the binding agent of the mineral fibre web is dissolved and on changing colour produces the optically visible marking line. The roller 1 can either be driven by means of a direct-current motor synchronously with the line speed of the mineral fibre web 38 or via carrying by the surface 41 of the mineral fibre web 38. <IMAGE>
