Description
Method and device for producing a data page for a book-like document Description
The invention relates to a method for producing a data page for a book-like document, in particular a book-like valuable document or security document, and to a device for producing a data page of this type. WO 2007/054618 A1 discloses a method for producing a data page for a book-like document, in particular a book-like valuable document or security document which comprises a data carrier and a flexible tape material arranged thereon as a tab. An edge region of the flexible tape material covers an edge region of the data page, thereby forming an overlap region. The flexible tape material and the data carrier are connected together in an unreleasable manner at least in some portions in the overlap region.
Furthermore, WO 2007/114700 A1 discloses a data page which comprises a tab which is connected unreleasably to the data page. A similar data page is known from EP 1 574 359 A2. WO 2006/079224 A1 discloses a data page for a book-like document, for example a passport booklet, which data page has a data carrier with a flexible layer. This flexible layer forms a so-called tab which also comprises a seam area. A data page of this type is sewn with further data pages via this seam region and is joined with a book cover to form a passport booklet.
In most cases, the flexible layer is fed manually to the data carrier to form a data page with a tab, which is time-consuming.
The object of the invention is to propose a method for producing a data page and also a device for this purpose, which device allows a simple and automated production of a data page with a tab, which data page consists of a data carrier with a flexible tape material arranged thereon.
This object is achieved by a method for producing a data page for a book-like document, in which the flexible tape material is fed by a feeding device to a gripping device which is arranged in a receiving position in the equipping region of the feeding device and, after being equipped, the gripping device is moved out of the equipping region into an adjacent working space in which the data carrier is positioned. In this respect, an edge region of the flexible tape material is allocated to an edge region of the data carrier, thereby forming an overlap region. Thereafter, the flexible tape material and the data carrier are connected unreleasably to one another in the overlap region, at least in some portions, and the gripping device is then returned into the receiving position in the equipping region from the working space.
This method according to the invention allows an automatic feed of the flexible tape material to the data carrier as well as a precise positioning of the flexible tape material in a connection position with the data carrier. Furthermore, the gripping device provides a secure handling of the flexible tape material. A method of this type can make it possible to increase the throughput compared with a manual equipping procedure.
In this method, according to a first preferred embodiment, the flexible tape material is fed to the gripping device in a prefabricated state. Consequently, tape materials which are cut into predetermined lengths can also be fed successively to the gripping device. Furthermore, as an alternative, the feeding device can feed the tape material to the gripping device as an endless tape. This can further simplify the method.
The gripping device can have two gripper elements which are movable relative to one another and which are adjacent to one another in a first gripping phase in the receiving position in the equipping region and are allocated to the feeding device. As a result, the flexible tape material can be introduced directly from the feeding device into the gripper elements to be received therein.
During the introduction of the flexible tape material into the gripper elements, a sensor element preferably monitors a gripper position and when the sensor element in the working space-side gripper element detects a gripper position, the feed of the flexible tape material is stopped and the working space-side gripper element is activated to fix the flexible tape material in the gripper element. Consequently, a front end of the flexible tape material which has preferably been guided through the feed-side gripper element and which passes into the working space-side gripper element, is grasped and fixed in a predefined position in the working space-side gripper element.
In order to detect a gripper position to fix the flexible tape material in the gripper element, a front end of the flexible tape material is preferably checked. Consequently, a simple monitoring procedure can be carried out.
After the working space-side gripper element has fixed a front end of the flexible tape material, said tape material is moved towards the working space, i.e. it is moved away from the feeding device, until a predetermined length of the flexible tape material has been removed from the feeding device. This can make it possible to easily adapt the length of the flexible tape material to the length of the respective data carrier. The adjustment of the predetermined length of the flexible tape material can be provided for a single data carrier arranged in the working space. Alternatively, it is also possible to arrange two or more data carriers next to one another in the working space, in which case the predetermined length of the flexible tape material is calculated such that the tape material includes the length of the data carriers as well as a distance arranged inbetween. In an embodiment of this type, it is possible to create, for example, a double use or multiple use, thereby achieving a further shortening of the cycle times.
The flexible tape material which is fed as an endless tape is then cut by a cutting device. Before the cutting procedure, the feed-side gripper element can be positioned at a slight distance from the feeding device so that a cutting knife of the cutting device can perform the cutting movement between the feed-side gripper element and the feeding device. The cutting knife preferably remains in a cutting position. This has the advantage that a feed opening in the feeding device for feeding the flexible tape material is closed.
In a further working step of the gripper phase, the working space-side gripper element is moved further in the direction of the working space until a sensor element of the feed-side gripper element detects the second free end of the flexible tape material and activates the gripper element. This measure makes it easily possible for the two gripper elements to each engage close to the outer front end of the flexible tape material, so that by maintaining an at least low path tension, a secure transportation of the flexible tape material is provided. The gripping phase is now preferably at an end.
The adjustment of the predetermined length can be provided for one data carrier arranged in the working space. Alternatively, two data carriers can also be positioned next to one another in the working space, in which case the predetermined distance or the length of the flexible tape material is calculated such that the length includes the length of the two data carriers and also a distance arranged inbetween. In an embodiment of this type, it is possible to create, for example a double use, thereby achieving a further shortening of the cycle times.
Furthermore, it is preferably provided that the gripper elements engage on the flexible tape material in a mutual spacing which corresponds to the length of the flexible tape material or they are preferably arranged inwardly offset by a predetermined distance with respect to the respective front ends. This can allow optimum handling.
Following on from the gripping phase is preferably a movement phase of the gripping device, in which the gripper elements move together with the flexible tape material into the working space and are allocated to the data carrier. This displacement movement is preferably coordinated with a positioning of the data carrier in the working space so that it is possible to precisely position the flexible tape material with respect to the data carrier in order to form the overlap region.
During the displacement movement, the two gripper elements can be driven by a drive such that they can move. Alternatively, the work-side gripper element can be driven and the feed-side gripper element can be dragged. This measure can provide a simplification in the configuration of the feed-side gripper element.
Following on from the movement phase is a connection phase in which the flexible tape material is connected unreleasably to the data carrier at least in some portions, the flexible tape material preferably being held by the gripper elements during this connection phase. This means that a fast and secure connection of the flexible tape material to the data carrier can be achieved.
After the flexible tape material has been connected to the data carrier, the gripper elements are deactivated, in other words a tensioning position with respect to the flexible tape material is released in order to return the gripper elements into the receiving position in the equipping region. In this phase, the cutting device is preferably returned into a starting position. A further preferred embodiment of the method provides that during a first gripping phase in which the flexible tape material is fed to the gripper elements, an additional guide element is allocated to the gripper elements in the receiving position in the equipping region. This measure can allow a precise and reliable feed. In particular during the activation of the gripping device to assume a tensioning position, it is possible to ensure a precise fixing of the flexible tape material in the gripper elements.
The object on which the invention is based is also achieved by a device for producing a data carrier for a book-like document, which device comprises a gripping device having at least two gripper elements, a working space-side gripper element and a feed-side gripper element being provided, as well as a feed device which feeds a flexible tape material to the gripping device, and comprising a control device which monitors the feed of the flexible tape material into a gripping position of the gripper elements and monitors at least one sensor element of the gripper elements and, when the gripping position has been reached, activates the gripper elements and then activates a movement of the gripper elements into a connection position of the flexible tape material to the data carrier in the working space and, after the flexible tape material has been connected to the data carrier, activates a return of the gripper elements into a receiving position in the equipping region. A device of this type for producing a data page has a simple construction which allows a secure handling of the flexible tape material and a precise positioning relative to the data carrier in a connection position.
The gripper elements of the gripping device are preferably respectively movable independently of one another in a linear guide. In particular, the gripper elements are movable in a common linear guide, thereby simplifying the construction. A further preferred embodiment of the device provides a linear guide which extends into the equipping region respectively on both sides of the working space, so that gripper elements are provided on both sides of the working space, which gripper elements can be respectively moved alternately into the working space. This means that an increased throughput during production of the data pages can be achieved, because while one device is connecting the flexible tape material to a data carrier, the gripper elements can already be equipped with a flexible tape material by the second device. Consequently, the cycle times are shortened.
In the following, the invention and further advantageous embodiments and developments thereof will be described and explained in more detail based on the examples shown in the drawings. The features to be inferred from the description and drawings can be used according to the invention on their own or together in any combination.

Fig. 7 is a schematic view from above of the device in a working step according to Fig. 6.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a book-like document 11. This book-like document 11 is, for example, an identification document, such as a passport or an identity card. The document 11 comprises, for example, a book cover 12. On an inner side of the book cover 12, it is possible to provide an endpaper 14 which is attached to the book cover 12. A data page 17 and for example one or more inside pages 18 are preferably joined by a common seam 16 to at least the endpaper 14, if this is provided. The inside pages 18 of the book-like document 11 are used to bear visas, stamps or other entries. The data page 17 can be configured, for example according to the ICAO standard and can comprise an image 19 of the document owner, an OCR readable ICAO zone 21 as well as further personalisation data 22. The personalisation data 22 are provided inside the data page 17. The data page 17 has a tab 23 which extends across the seam 16. This tab 23 also comprises a seam region in which the seam 16 is formed. Alternatively, instead of the seam 16 or in addition to the seam 16, it is also possible to provide an adhesive bond and/or a welded join.
Fig. 2 is a schematic view of the data page 17. The data page 17 comprises a data carrier 24 with a flexible tape material 26 configured as a tab 23. The data carrier 24 can preferably comprise a transponder module, consisting of an 1C chip and an antenna. In addition, further electronic elements and/or other security elements, in particular diffractive security elements can be introduced.
This data carrier 24 consists of at least one layer, preferably of two or more layers, for example of TPE, preferably PU. The first and at least a second layer can be formed identically or differently and can be formed from PC (polycarbonate), PET (polyethylene terephthalate glycol) as well as the modifications thereof, in particular PET-G and PET-F, polyacrylates, in particular PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate), ABS, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene, PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), PI (polyimide or polytransisoprene), PVC (polyvinylchloride), copolymers, block copolymers and also materials extruded from these polymers.
An edge region 25 of the data carrier 24 is covered, at least in some portions, by an edge region 27 of the flexible tape material 26 to form an overlap region 28. Within this overlap region 28, the flexible tape material 26 is connected unreleasably to the data page 17 at least in some portions. This connection can be a welded connection, for example an ultrasonic welded connection, as well as an adhesive bond. A bond of this type can be produced by thermal and/or chemical activation.
The flexible tape material 26 can consist of a woven fabric, a non-woven, a plastics film or a combination of the aforementioned materials. The flexible tape material 26 can be chosen subject to the case of use. If instead of the seam 16 in the book-like document 11 according to Fig. 1, merely an adhesive bond is to be provided, the flexible tape material 26 is formed with appropriate materials in order on the one hand to allow this adhesive bond and on the other, to ensure an adequate connection to the data carrier 24.
To produce a data page 17 according to Fig. 2, a device 31 is provided which is shown in a schematic side view in Fig. 3 and in a plan view in Fig. 4.
The device 31 comprises a feeding device 33 which feeds the flexible tape material 26 to a gripping device 34. The flexible tape material 26 is preferably fed as an endless tape and is drawn off from a reel 36. Via a feed 37 of the feeding device 33, the flexible tape material 26 is conveyed out of a feed opening 38 and is delivered to the gripping device 34. The feeding device 33 preferably has a channel 39 which comprises an internal cross section which is at least slightly greater than the flexible tape material 26, to feed the flexible tape material 26 to the gripping device 34 by a pushing movement.
The gripping device 34 consists of two gripper elements 41, 42 which are displaceable and movable independently of one another and are each connected to a linear guide 43. In this respect, provided on each gripper element 41, 42 is preferably a carriage 44 which is guided in a preferably common guide rail 46. The feeding device 33 is preferably also attached to the guide rail 46, thereby allowing a precise positioning of the gripping device 34 relative to the feeding device 33.
The gripper elements 41, 42 are arranged in an equipping region 48 which adjoins the feeding device 33 and adjoins, opposite, a working space 50 in which the data carrier 24 is prepared for connection to the flexible tape material 26. The data carrier 24 passes through the working space 50 according to arrow 51. The displacement movement of the gripper elements 41 is provided at a right angle thereto. The gripper elements 41 are preferably moved into the working space 50 at the side of the equipping region 48, as shown in the following.
Each gripper element 41, 42 comprises a schematically shown collet chuck 53 which can fix the flexible tape material 26 inside the gripper elements 41, 42. Furthermore, a respective sensor element 54 is provided which detects a free end of the flexible tape material 26 in the gripper element 41, 42.
Allocated to the feed opening 38 of the feeding device 33 is a cutting device 56 which can cut a predetermined length of the flexible tape material 26, introduced into the gripper elements 41, 42. For this purpose, for example a cutting knife 57 can be moved according to arrow 58 relative to the feed opening 38.
Provided on one or both gripper elements 41, 42 is a drive module which can drive the gripper elements 41, 42 such that they can move along the guide rail 46. This drive module can be a stepping motor or the like.
According to the embodiment, the linear guide 43 or the guide rail 46 can extend at least along the equipping region 48 and the working space 50 and in particular can also accommodate the feeding device 33. Likewise, the guide rail 46 can extend into a further equipping region 49 which is located opposite the equipping region 48 shown in Fig. 3 and adjoins the working space 50. Thus, it is possible to provide two devices 31 in a mirror-inverted manner relative to the working space 50.
In the embodiment according to Fig. 3 and 4, a data carrier 24 is conveyed along the working space 50. Alternatively, it is also possible for two or more data carriers 24 to pass through the working space 50 next to one another, so that a double use or multiple use can also be created.
The two gripper elements 41, 42 can be configured identically and can have a U-shaped mount 60, for example, so that a side opening is provided through which the flexible tape material 26 projects laterally, as shown in Fig. 4, so that the edge region 27 is freely accessible to form the overlap region 28. Provided to precise position and fix the flexible tape material 26 in these gripper elements 41, 42 is a guide element 61 which makes it possible for the flexible tape material 26 to be positioned in a defined manner inside the U-shaped mount and to rest against the side wall 62. A working space-side gripper element 41 and a feed-side gripper element 42 are preferably configured differently from one another. The working space-side gripper element 41 has a closed end face 63 so that the end face 63 stops a feed movement of the endless tape material 26. The feed-side gripper element 42 preferably has a closed guide portion 64 which merges into the open U-shaped mount 60. As a result, an edge region 27 of the flexible tape material 26 is freed by the gripper elements 41, which edge region is intended for the formation of the overlap region 28 with the data carrier 24.
The device 31 is controlled by a control device 55. Individual process parameters can be input into the control device 55 to adapt the device 31 to the respective parameters in order to produce the data page 17.
The method for the production of the data page 17 according to Fig. 2 is described below:
In a first working phase or gripper phase, the gripper elements 41, 42 are positioned in a receiving position 71 in the equipping region 48. Thereafter, the flexible tape material 26 is drawn off from the reel 36 by the feed 37 and is guided through the feed-side gripper element 42 and introduced into the working space-side gripper element 41. As soon as the sensor element 54 of the gripper element 41 detects the free end of the flexible tape material 26, the feed 36 is stopped and the gripper element 41 is activated, in other words the collet chuck 53 is closed. This first gripping phase is shown in Fig. 3 and 4.
Fig. 5a shows a further gripping phase. The working space-side gripper element 41 is moved towards the working space 50 until a predetermined length XLof the flexible tape material 26 has been drawn off. This length XL corresponds to the required length of the flexible tape material 26. The flexible tape material 26 is removed from the reel 36 by the working space-side gripper element 41 and is assisted by the feed 37. During this displacement movement, the feed-side gripper element 42 can also be at a short distance from the feeding device 33. The flexible tape material 26 is then cut to the predetermined length. The cutting knife 57 remains in a closed position for the feed opening 38.
In a last gripping phase according to Fig. 5b, the working space-side gripper element 41 is moved further in the direction of the working space 50 and/or the feed-side gripper element 42 is moved until the sensor element 54 of the feed-side gripper element 42 detects the second free end of the tape-form material 26 so that the movement of the gripper elements 41, 42 is stopped and the collet chuck 53 is closed. The gripping phase is now finished.
In a following movement phase which is shown in a schematic side view in Fig. 6, the gripper elements 41 are moved together into the working space 50 and positioned relative to the data carrier 24, as shown in the plan view of Fig. 7. In this respect, the respective front ends of the flexible tape material 26 can run flush with the end faces 77 of the data carrier or they can be arranged slightly but uniformly inwardly offset with respect to the end faces 77, due to the shorter length of the flexible tape material 26.
Following on from this movement phase is the connection phase in which the flexible tape material 26 is connected unreleasably to the data carrier 24 in the overlap region 28 to form the data page 17. During this connection phase, the gripper elements 41 continue to grip the flexible tape material 26 so that it is preferably held in an at least lightly tensioned manner.
After the connection phase, the collet chucks 53 are released and the gripper elements 41, 42 are returned into the receiving position 71 in the equipping region 48, and the cutting device 46 is preferably reset into a starting position with regard to the cutting knife 57.
All the features described above are essential to the invention on their own or in any combination.
