Opfindelsen angår en fremgangsmåde til fremstilling af 2-isopropylaminopyrimidin, der frembyder den fordel, at fremgangsmåden er en ettrinsreaktion, der giver et forøget udbytte sammenlignet med hidtil kendte fremgangsmåder til 5 fremstilling af 2-isopropylaminopyrimidin ud fra 2-amino-pyrimidin.
Det er også kendt at fremstille 2-isopropylaminopyrimidin ud fra 2-chlorpyrimidin og isopropylamin; dette er beskrevet af Brown D. J. et Harper J. S. J. Chem. Soc.

Kun en reduktiv alkylering syntes indtil videre at være udført for at fremstille 2-alkylaminopyrimidin udfra 2-aminopyrimidin under anvendelse af myresyre; se I.A.

15 2-isopropylaminopyrimidin kan også fremstilles ved alky lering af 2-aminopyrimidin ved hjælp af alkylhalogenid, der giver 2-alkyl-l,2-dihydro-2-iminopyrlmidiner, der under basiske betingelser omdannes til de tilsvarende 2-alkylaminopyrimidiner ved Dimroth-omlejring (Brown 20 D.J. et Paddon-Row M.N.J. Chem. Soc (C) 903 (1967).
Imidlertid giver alle disse hidtil kendte fremgangsmåder 2-isopropylaminopyrimidin sædvanligvis i ringe udbytte, under 50%.
Ved fremgangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen, der er ejendommelig 25 ved det i kravets kendetegnende del angivne, har man opnået, at 2-isopropylaminopyrimidin kan opnås i særdeles gode udbytter ved at omsætte 2-aminopyrimidin i acetone i nærværelse af den organiske carboxylsyre med et overskud af et alkalimetalborhydrid. Ved denne reaktion er acetone både 30 et af reagenserne og opløsningsmiddel; af denne grund er et stort overskud af acetone nødvendig.
