Abstract

Method of producing tubes from a metal strip and a device for carrying out the method, the metal strip 2 being fed at an acute angle to the tube axis A in accordance with the desired pitch of the turns and then formed to the desired final diameter in a forming screw 3, after which the turns are welded together continuously and pipe sections of the desired length are finally cut off, the tube being filled with a forming gas in a precisely defined region around the welding point. As they are fed forward, the pipe sections are cut by a plasma cutter 6 guided along with them and the inner wall of the tube is protected by an insert from material sputter and dust deposits in the region of the plasma cutter, apart from a small aperture around the actual cutting region. <IMAGE>
