Description
From fibers with poor entangling ability, e.g. B. inorganic fibers (glass fibers, slag wool, mineral wool and the like.) Manufactured fibrous webs by nature have only a loose cohesion and low strength. In order to improve cohesion and strength, such fibrous webs are usually impregnated with binding agents. The individual fibers are bonded to one another by the binding agent. But then there is a stiffening of the webs, which is greater, the harder the binding agent. If the hardness of the binding agent is so great that the fibers can no longer move against each other, the fibrous web can no longer be bent without getting kinks or breaks. However, if you choose a binding agent that is and remains soft, so that the fibers can still slide against each other, no significant increase in strength can be achieved. In addition, this results in a low heat resistance of the finished product.
For many purposes, however, it is important to achieve great flexibility on the one hand and high strength and high heat resistance on the other hand.
According to the invention, the disadvantages of insufficient flexibility and the formation of kinks are avoided, even if a binder that ensures sufficient strength and heat resistance is used. For this purpose, the invention essentially provides that the fibers are glued by binding agents only at individual points on the web and that gaps with non-glued fibers are provided between these adhesive points. While the entire surface of the webs was impregnated with binding agent in the previously known methods, the invention provides that unglued gaps with loose fibers remain between the individual adhesive points, in which the fibers can move against each other.
The size of the gaps provided between the individual adhesive points and their distribution on the web can be selected differently depending on the selected fiber length or the intended use. Fibrous webs with such gluing of the fibers, which are provided only in places, have overall sufficient flexibility and achieve a surprisingly high strength. The gaps provided between the bond points, in which there is no bond between the fibers, can be achieved in various ways.
B. inA particularly simple manufacturing method is that from the outset, the impregnation is only done in places, e.g. Am
In the form of spots in a more or less regular distribution or in the form of strips, the size and shape of the spots or strips and the mutual spacing thereof can be adapted to the length of the fibers and the intended use of the web. It is not necessary for binding agents applied to the surface of the web to penetrate the web in its entire thickness. It is sufficient if only enough binding agent is applied in the form of dots or strips that it only soaks partial layers of the sheet thickness. It can optionally be provided that this application of the binding agent, which is limited to layers, is carried out only from one or from both sides of the web. Impregnation in dots or strips has the particular advantage that it saves a considerable amount of the very expensive binding agent compared to the execution options described below.
You can also z. B. soak the fleece completely with the binder and then, if necessary, dry it. Then artificially small kinks are created at certain intervals, e.g. B. by passing the web through corrugated rollers. The small, deliberate kinks in these areas break the bond between the fibers and loosen the bond between the binder and the fibers. This results in sufficient flexibility in the web without the formation of harmful kinks.
It is also possible, after the entire web has been completely soaked, to create the bond gaps by subsequently removing the binding agent from the web at these points, e.g. B. by suction, squeezing or washing out.
In the drawing, a piece of such a path is shown diagrammatically as an example. The fibrous web is denoted by 1 therein. Individual spots 2 and 3 can be seen in offset rows on this track. In the case of the spots 2, the binding agent has penetrated through the entire thickness of the web 1, while in the case of the spots labeled 3, the impregnation has only covered part of the web thickness from the surface.
