Description
The known automatic apparatus for analyzing gas mixtures, from which one or more constituents are removed by absorption or combustion, work in such a way that the gas residue is used for registration. Either a floating or rotatable gas bell is moved by the gas residue and the change in height is registered or the gas residue is caught under a fixed bell and a float is moved by the sealing liquid displaced from the bell and its change in height is recorded. As a result of the unavoidable friction of the registration device, a certain minimum amount of residual gas is a prerequisite for the proper functioning of such devices. These are therefore not usable for the automatic analysis of gas mixtures whose non-absorbable component is only a few percent or even less than one percent.
The method according to the invention enables the measurement and recording of small amounts of gas and thus the automatic analysis of high-percentage gases, the slight residual gas of which is available for measurement and registration, in that the measuring and recording device is not determined by the residual gas itself, but by means of an in Any amount of available auxiliary gas is operated, the pressure or the amount of which is changed by the gas residue. For this purpose, the gas residue is collected under a solid, liquid-filled bell 1, the liquid of which communicates with that in a pipe 6 at a certain adjustable. A thin tube 5 protrudes into the tube 6, through which auxiliary gas continuously exits, to the extent that it just touches the liquid level when the bell 1 is completely filled with liquid. If the gas residue now passes through the pipe 7 into the bell 1, an equal amount of liquid is forced out of this into the pipe 6 and the auxiliary gas emerging from the pipe 5 requires a corresponding pressure in order to bubble through the liquid. The pressure of the auxiliary gas, which can be continuously registered, is therefore a measure of the amount of residual gas.
Nach jeder Analyse muss der Gasrest aus derAfter each analysis, the remaining gas must be removed from the
For this purpose, a pipe 2, which is connected to a container 4 with an overflow 3, is guided to just below the cover of the bell 1. If liquid is poured into the tube 6, the upper edge of which is higher than the cover of the gas bell 1, it displaces the gas residue from the bell 1 through the tube 2, and the excess liquid also flows through the tube 2 into the container 4 and out of it through the overflow 3 until the same water level is reached in the pipe 6 as in the container 4.
In order to enable a continuous, automatic analysis, the measurement of the gases to be examined, the addition of liquid into the tube 6 after each analysis, etc. is controlled in a manner known per se by electrical contacts or other devices.
