Description

Process for removing air from kieselguhr and similar porous Filter materials by vacuum treatment Diatomaceous earth is increasingly used as a filter material especially in precoat filters, e.g. B. for beer filtration, related by kieselguhr or similar porous filter materials in mixing vessels with water or with the too filtering liquid is mixed and small amounts of this mixture means special devices are continuously fed to the liquid to be filtered, which washes the filter material in the precoat filter onto suitable substrates and in this way its adsorbing property for a long time, mostly for a day, renewed and maintained evenly.

It is true that the between the individual kieselguhr grains Air by adding the kieselguhr to water, beer or another liquid be displaced or it will be evacuated according to another suggestion and subsequent introduction of carbonic acid removed. In the meantime it has been shown that with these means those in the intercellular cavities of the diatomite or similar air contained in porous filter materials remains unchanged. This results in results from the following experiment: If you fill ventilated kieselguhr according to the above suggestions in an Erlenmeyer glass flask, which is connected to a water jet vacuum pump is provided, so you can fill the air between the kieselguhr grains by adding water displace by the contents of the flask are shaken properly or the same remains for days, with the filter material also previously carbonated may have been treated. If the flask is now placed under vacuum, it roars the contents for about 10 minutes like selterwasser. Will the escaping gas caught and examined, it turns out that the same thing comes from air, or in spite of previous ones Carbonated treatment consists mainly of air.

In order to reduce the quality, for example, when filtering beer acting on it, from the individual grains of filter material in their cavities to remove trapped air by vacuum treatment is proposed according to the invention, the filter material before the known metering into the beer stream to be filtered, suspended in water and covered by it to be placed in a container and the same then put under negative pressure. This can be done, for example, by itself known kieselguhr mixing vessel or a special, this upstream vacuum container to serve. Depending on the level of the applied vacuum, after a treatment time the vacuum tank is reconnected to the outside air for about 5 to 10 minutes, as a result, liquid in the cavities of the filter material, which were previously filled with air penetrates.

The filter material treated in this way is now used in a manner known per se along with the liquid is added to the beer to be filtered and effects in the precoat filter its filtering without damage from intercellular air pockets.
