keine Phenolgruppen enthalten, besitzen kationischen Charakter.Tanning agents Tanning agents of vegetable origin can be described as anion-active due to their chemical nature. Most synthetic tanning agents are also anionic in nature due to their phenol or sulfonic acid group content. Cationic tanning agents of an amphoteric character have recently become known (see German patent specification 872946), which consist of phenolic raw materials but also have basic groups. These groups serve to make the condensation products soluble in acidic solution; however, these basic groups do not have a tanning effect. It has now been found that the water-soluble resins obtainable by condensation of mixtures of salts of aromatic and salts of aliphatic amines with aldehydes have valuable tanning properties. These tanning agents, which do not contain any phenolic groups, have a cationic character.
Basic condensation products of a purely aliphatic nature are already
as a tanning agent, known as so-called resin tanning agents. Own this

According to their character, however, condensation products which can be used in the invention are ready-made substances
and cannot be compared with these precondensates. These tannins with
cationic character behave similarly to the .amphoteric tannins, i.
That is, they are applied in the manner of chrome tannins, by adding a pecked skin

a gradual erosion is achieved.
The character of the leather can be influenced by
extensive neutralization of the grain products a very stable leather of lighter color
Color is obtained while canceling the tanning process in the weakly acidic
Medium a more soft leather with a yellow color results.
sein. So kommen als aromatische Basen z. B. Anilin, Toluidine und Xylidine in Frage;
Those to be used for the manufacture of cationic tanning agents
Aromatic and aliphatic bases must be fusible with one another in the form of their salts
be. So come as aromatic bases z. B. aniline, toluidines and xylidines in question;
Ethanolamine and diethanolamine are particularly suitable on aliphatic bases
to be emphasized, but also OH-group-free aliphatic amines, such as dimethylamine and
similar alkyl amines are also useful. Likewise, dicyandiamidine can be in the form
its chlorohydrate can be used. Formaldehyde, acetaldehyde can be used as aldehydes
etc. can be applied.
Niederschlags ausscheiden. For the production of the invention, which is not claimed here
The following examples are intended to serve as an illustration of tanning agents: Example 1 13 gel weight parts
Aniline hydrochloride and 10 parts by weight of ethanolamine hydrochloride become one
homogeneous melt heated to 15o0. Then the heat source is removed and slowly
Paraformal, dehydrated into the melt. The addition should be made in such a way that
that the temperature does not rise above 14o0. The melt turns into a
homogeneous, deep red mass, which almost solidifies when cooling, easily immersed in water
dissolves and creates strong gelatin precipitation. When neutralizing the aqueous solution
by adding alkali, a white precipitate is obtained, which in excess of the
Alkali is insoluble, but can be brought back into solution by acid. as well
can the tannin by a concentrated salt solution in the form of a yellow
Eliminate precipitation.
verwendet.Products with similar behavior can be obtained if one
instead of the ethanolamine hydrochloride 14.1 parts by weight diethanolamine hydrochloride,
14 parts by weight of dicyandiamidine hydrochloride or 8.1 parts by weight of dimethylamine hydrochloride
used.

Example 2 14.3 parts by weight of o-, m- or p-toluidine hydrochloride or

Melt dissolves easily - if necessary with the addition of a small amount of acid
in water and gives a strong gelatin precipitation. With concentrated Na Cl solution
if the tannin is flocculated yellowish, it also falls out of the aqueous solution
after adding alkali. Used p-toluidine hydrochloride alone in the above
If it condenses, the red melt crystallizes on cooling; when pouring
in a lot of water, colorless, matted needles separate from those made of ethanol
Can be recrystallized and melt at 1360.
