Photomechanical process for establishing c; yätzfer Metagldxuucldormen with the help of a midnight process in the production of: metal printing forms after line art or screened templates by photochemical means, j e depending on the type of metal to be etched: that which protects the same during etching Layer made special requirements.
In addition to the transfer of images, there are hot enamel or cold enamel processes, Protein or two-layer process in question. In the first-mentioned method the metal to be etched with a colloid layer (chromed isinglass or the like) coated, which developed after the copy with water, colored by means of methyl violet, possibly hardened by chrome alum and finally, after previous drying, is baked (enamelled) under intense heat. This burnt-in copy layer is to be addressed as acid-resistant, but the work process is time-consuming. Another The disadvantage is that the burn-in of the copy layer with certain metals, such as B. in zinc, leads to a change in the structure, through which the resistance, ability of metal suffers. To counter this adverse effect, apply one cold enamel process, which is based on a use of chromed shellac are constructed. This method is easier to use than the hot enamel method. However, the photosensitive solution is more expensive and the working process is not so safe. The shellac process is to a certain extent dependent on the weather. In which Protein process is the metal to be etched first with the photosensitive Layer covered, rolled in with paint after copying, dusted with asphalt and only then developed. The protein process is a delicate operation and more laborious than with the processes described above and with finer grid work because of the risk of losing the tonal values in the midtones and low tones not useable.
The way of working differs from the three procedures outlined above in the two-layer process, in such a way that the metal is initially acid-resistant with -an Coated lacquer layer and on this the image layer is applied as a glue copy. The glue copy is treated in the same way as with the previously described hot enamel process, d. H. it is developed after copying with water, by means of methyl violet stained, then watered, hardened in chrome alum, watered again and dried. If the glue copy is obtained in this way, it is transferred by means of a special one Developer in the paint layer. Uni for the consequence of any stronger heating to avoid the appearance of hairline cracks and also an even exposure The acid guaranteed to see the glue copy after the image is in the varnish layer is transferred, removed with ammoniacal solution. The two-layer process has the advantage that the lacquer layer, to which no requirement regarding photosensitivity is made, can be made absolutely acid-proof. The whole process but is cumbersome and therefore associated with various sources of error.
In accordance with the present invention, the operation becomes the two-layer process very much simplified by the fact that instead of the glue layer, a chrome rubber layer occurs and a developer is used that consists of a mixture of saturated Saline solution, especially calcium chloride solution and lactic acid, and at the same time Contains paint solvents such as ketones and esters for the paint layer, so that the Development of the chrome rubber copy without interruption carried out in one operation can be, whereupon the etching of the metal takes place. As an example of a suitable one The developer can be a saturated calcium chloride or magnesium chloride solution Use the ratio of ethylglycol and ethylglycol acetate as paint solvents i: i contains. Because the chrome rubber layer is only used to accommodate the copy and its later It can be transferred into the lacquer layer, but not as a protective layer during etching they should be applied thinly accordingly. This does not just mean a corresponding one faster drying of the photosensitive layer, but also a short, after-seconds counting copy time and, as a result, rapid development, since the developer quickly penetrates the thin layer of chrome rubber. Is the development of both layers reached, the chrome rubber copy becomes easy due to its sensitivity to water and washed off quickly and only by water, and it can, as any further treatment not applicable, etching can be started immediately.
As the coating of the metal with the acid-proof varnish by machine and can be done months in advance, the actual work process increases Production of an etchable and at the same time absolutely acid-proof copy only one. Fraction the time as it is possible with other working methods.
