Description
This color adheres to those made from these solutions Forms such as B. threads and foils, stubbornly. Also show the threads at Drying at a temperature of 100 to 120 ° results in a noticeable darkening. Man has already tried to discolour polyacrylonitrile solutions by adding reducing salts to prevent; however, this method does not succeed in having a sufficient effect to reach. There is also the use of boron fluoride complexes as polymerization catalysts of the monomeric acrylonitrile dissolved in dimethylformamide has been proposed, wherein the boron fluoride complex is not removed from the resulting spinning solution after the reaction , (U.S. Patent 2528710).
The aim is to obtain fibers that have only a low or show no discoloration. But even this method shows only one in practice imperfect effect.
It has now been found that the aforementioned discoloration of polyacrylonitrile solutions To a large extent, and possibly completely, can be prevented if one mixes the solutions of boron fluoride complexes with strong reducing agents.
Farbwert = I, so war die relative Verfärbung der Lösungen a : b c : d = 1 : 4,7 : 5,5 : 6,9.The polyacrylonitrile mixed with these additives solutions can now be warmed up to 100 ° for several days without affecting the processed products disruptive discoloration occurs. The additives do not interfere with processing. The after The additives remaining in the fiber after processing set the thermal stability of the same considerably, and to a greater extent than if the effects were summed up a boron fluoride complex and a reducing agent would be expected. this fact results clearly from comparative tests in which polyacrylonitrile solutions in each case small amounts of a) the mixture according to the invention of boron fluoride-dimethylformamide complex compound and formamidine sulE, acid, b) an equal amount of boron fluoride - dimethylformamide - complex compound alone and c) the formamidinesulfinic acid alone added, these solutions are kept at 950 for hours in addition to a blank sample d) go and the The solutions treated in this way become colored in the usual way with the aid of a photometer were found. If one sets the for the solution a) according to the invention obtained after heating to 950 for 2 hours. Color value = I, so was the relative Discoloration of the solutions a: b c: d = 1: 4.7: 5.5: 6.9.
Also compared to the US Pat. No. 2,617,783 as stabilizers Boric acid and boric anhydride additives recommended for polyacrylonitrile solutions and boric acid esters distinguish the stabilizers used according to the invention by significantly better effectiveness.
The amounts of boron fluoride complexes and reducing agents which the Solutions or added to the solvent before the dissolution of the polyacrylonitrile are, in general below I ° / o, based on the total weight of the Solution. In many cases, additional amounts of 0.2 to 0.30 / Q show an optimal effect.
Example I To an is% polyacrylonitrile solution in distilled 0.3% borofluoride acetic acid and 0.3% formamidinesulfinic acid are added to dimethylformamide (based on the total weight of the solution). The solution shows after 72 hours of heating on go up to 100 ° a significantly better degree of brightness than the comparison solution without addition.
