Process for the preparation of cyclohexyl-substituted aromatic
Compounds It is known to use cyclohexylsubstituted aromatic compounds
Implementation of aromatic substances, especially phenols, with cyclohexanol or
Cyclohexene or with such compounds that, under suitable conditions, cyclohexene
able to form in the presence of dehydrating agents or acidic condensation catalysts
to manufacture. Among the compounds that are able to form cyclohexene are except
the already mentioned cyclohexanol cyclohexyl halides and aliphatic - cycloaliphatic
To call ether.
in Gegenwart wasserabspaltender Mittel, vorzugsweise oberflächenwirksamer Tonerdesilikate,
erhitzt. It has now surprisingly been found that cyclohexyl @ substituted
can produce aromatic compounds in a technically advantageous manner by
that one aromatic hydrocarbons or oxy compounds with dicyclohexyl ether
in the presence of water-releasing agents, preferably surface-active alumina silicates,
heated.
,mindestens formal intermediär praktisch vollständig in zwei Mol Cyclohexen gespalten
The process gives yields of over 8o11 / 9 with respect to the converted
Dicyclohexyl ether. This fact means that D, icyclohexyl.äther under the reaction conditions
, at least formally as an intermediate practically completely split into two moles of cyclohexene
is, that is, that the present process is based on a reaction which
was previously unknown.
The new process offers the advantage
that as a starting material for the production of the cyclohexyl-substituted aromatic
Compounds used as intermediates in the manufacture of synthetic resins and plasticizers
Have technical importance, dicyclohexyl ether is used; z. B. in the technical
Production of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone from cyclohexylamine by-product,
for which practically no use has yet become known.
Als aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe werden -Naphthalin und Diphenyl
und als aromatische Oxyverbindungen Phenol und die Kresole verwendet.-Naphthalene and diphenyl are used as aromatic hydrocarbons
and phenol and the cresols are used as aromatic oxy compounds.
Except for the already mentioned, surface-effective alumina silicate
Other substances known for this purpose are also suitable as water-releasing agents, such as
Zinc chloride, phosphoric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid.
Die Reaktionstemperatur liegt meist zwischen etwa 130 und a9o°.The reaction temperature is usually between about 130 and 90 °.
The reaction can be carried out under normal or elevated pressure
will.
Beispiel i Eine Mischung aus 266

Dicyclohexyläther. It is known to use al: ipatic ethers with phenols in the presence of. To implement boron fluoride or hydrofluoric acid. In addition to the corresponding alkylphenols, phenol ethers are also formed. It is also known to use dibenzyl ether with z. B. implement o-cresol under similar conditions. Man. In addition to monobenzyl-o-cresol, it also contains other conversion products. After all, one already has aliphatic and araliphatic ethers, e.g. BDi-ri-butyl ether and dibenzyl ether, with aromatic hydrocarbons, z. B. benzene, reacted in the presence of boron fluoride or concentrated hydrofluoric acid and thereby alkylated or aralkylated benzene @ derivatives obtained in addition to other products. From these known processes, however, it could not be concluded that the dicyclohexyl ether with aromatic hydrocarbons or oxy compounds can be converted smoothly and practically into cyclohexyl-substituted aromatic compounds with good yields without the formation of by-products. EXAMPLE i A mixture of 266 parts by weight of dicyclohexyl ether, 1089 parts by weight of naphthalene and 50 parts by weight of fuller's earth is heated in a pressure vessel to 28o to 29o ° for 8 to 9 hours; thereby: arises. a pressure of 4o atm. After cooling, the semi-solid reaction material is stirred with 35o parts by weight of toluene and the bleaching earth is filtered off. Fractional distillation of the filtrate gives, in addition to unreacted and reusable dicyclohexyl ether and naphthalene, about 3: 0 parts by weight of mono- and about 76 parts by weight of dicyclohexylnaphthalene. The residue consists of 19 parts by weight of a dark brown resin. The brownish, clear reaction mixture is mixed with a diluent, for example 250 parts by weight of so-called "solvent naphtha", a mixture of o-, in- and p-xylene, and stirred for a short time Fractional distillation of the filtrate gives, in addition to unreacted and reusable dicyclolexyl ether and phenol, about 40o parts by weight of o- and p-cyclohexylphenol. The total yield of cyclohexylphenol mixture is 73%, based on the cyclohexylphenol mixture used Dicyclohexyl ether, about 810/0, based on dicyclohexyl ether consumed.
