Process for the production of oxygen-containing compounds It is known
by adding carbon oxide and hydrogen to olefins in the presence of cobalt catalysts
compounds containing oxygen at elevated temperature and pressure,
especially aldehydes. The method is suitable, for example, for
the production of isovaleraldehyde from isobutylene, however, is often used in this
Implementation adversely affects the yield of aldehyde in that a noticeable part
of isobutylene is converted into isobutane.

Products, especially Isov aleraldehyde, in the reaction of isobutylene with carbon oxide
and increase hydrogen and the isobutylene hydrogenation side reaction substantially
can be pushed back when the reaction is carried out in the presence of isobutane.
Such a process can be very expediently designed as a cycle process,

Isobutane wholly or partially returned to the oxo process with the isobutylene and
the isobutylene consumed to form the oxo product, continuously or over time

One can continuously prevent isobutane in the circular isobutylene
or remove part of the isobutane from time to time.
It depends
on the level of the isobutane content in the isobutylene-isobutane mixture to be processed
from how far the isobutane formation is suppressed in the individual case. With a composition
approximately equal parts of isobutylene and isobutane only make up 2 to 3% of the isobutylene
hydrogenated, but under these conditions is the space-time yield of the oxo product
so small that the process can be uneconomical. As particularly beneficial
an isobutane content of 10 to 300/0, in particular 15 to 25%, has been found,
since the isobutane formation is up to about 4% in a single pass or 6% in the
Circulation process is reduced without surprisingly the space-time yield
of oxo product compared to the processing of isobutylene
is decreased. An isobutane level of about 20% in the circulatory isobutane can e.g.
