Description
Rotary drill pipe connection The invention relates to rotary drill pipe connections (tool joints) and concerns their construction and assembly.
With the usual drill rods and connecting pieces, the Connection usually by conical thread, with the connector on the drill pipe is screwed on until sufficient tightening by the friction of the conical Thread has been reached. When screwing together, the conical thread and by the friction of this conical thread which determines the suit alone The outer body expands while the inner body contracts. By contracting of the inner and the expansion of the outer body during assembly results, when the parts are screwed together extremely tightly, at the junction a very large initial stress. If then the pipe continues to stress during use becomes, these rupture-causing, additional stresses are considerable smaller than if the connection weren't as tight or not as high Initial stress. In general, interconnected pipes break not at the junction, but the break occurs in the pipes themselves, and very often in the vicinity of the first thread turn of the pipe. With the usual Connections, the end of the connecting body extends outside over the thread out and retains when tightened, as it adapts loosely to the adjacent part of the pipe, essentially at its original diameter, thereby reducing the expansion of the first thread turn of the connector offered resistance and a strong concentration the stresses caused at this point.
The purpose of the invention is now to create a connector, which does not have the disadvantages mentioned above. Another purpose of the invention is to avoid strong local stress. The invention also aims to connect the individual parts by locking engagement, essentially beforehand to ensure certain stresses at the connection point, the individual To connect parts rigidly and securely with each other, a loosening of the individual parts to prevent use with certainty and to exclude malfunctions due to breakage. Further purposes and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description below.
The disadvantages given above can be overcome by a rotary drill pipe connection be avoided; where the male part has an external thread and the socket part has an internal thread has, and the two parts near the thread smooth cylindrical, screwed in State of the connection have abutting surfaces. According to the invention at the pin part a cylindrical surface upstream of its thread and at the Socket part a cylindrical counter surface formed in an elongated socket neck, such that the inner diameter of the socket neck is slightly smaller than the outer diameter the cylindrical surfaces of the pin part and is shrunk onto the latter. With this type of connection, the cylindrical surfaces interlock securely, see above that the stresses are distributed over a larger area of a pipe and in particular local stresses in the first thread turn can be avoided. Particularly useful is to form the pin part at the end of the pipe, but the socket part as part of one to provide a separate two-part linkage connector. The one having the bore Part is heated and can then shrink extremely tightly onto the pipe, such that torsional stresses are offered considerable resistance, the Tighten the joint considerably with respect to the desired torque gets better and there are relatively less stresses in both parts.
In the drawing, the subject matter of the invention is shown, for example, and FIG. 1 is a half-sectional view of a joint according to FIG of the invention, Fig. 2 is a broken, drawn to a larger scale, section View of an externally remote drill pipe connection; and FIG. 3 shows one of FIGS. Figure 2 similar, sectional view of a flush joint.
According to Fig. I, two pipe parts are connected by a connecting piece, namely on the upper part io a pin body z2 and on the lower part one Sleeve 13 attached. The pin and the sleeve are connected to each other to the Liaison to complete.
The upper pipe part 10 is upset on the outside at 14 essentially cylindrical and concentric to the axis of the pipe and has a tapering, threaded pin 15 extending to the end of the pipe part. The lower pipe part ii is upset in a similar manner at 1 6 and provided with a tapered, threaded pin 17.
The upper part 18 of the sleeve 13 has a coarse thread i9, in which a similar coarse thread 25 of the pin 24 of the part i2 engages. The lower part 2o of the sleeve 13 is provided with a fine thread 2i, in which the tapered thread 1 7 engages the pin member of the pipe ii. With this arrangement, the connection at the point of the coarse thread 19, 25 can be easily released without in any way appreciably influencing the fine thread connection between the pipe and the connecting body. The pin 12 is similarly provided with a sleeve 22 with a tapering fine thread 23, in which the thread 15 of the pipe engages.
41. The annular part 3o of the sleeve expediently has a small inner wall or hole 3i. A corresponding part 40 is provided on the pin. The pipe parts i i and io have complementary cylindrical walls 32 and 41, respectively. These parts are relatively long, so that after accurate machining, relatively long adjacent surfaces can be achieved, whereby the Stresses are distributed over a considerable area.
In order to obtain a predetermined stress over a large area and a tight tightening of the threads of the socket and pin parts, the parts 30 and 40 are heated prior to assembly. They are then conveniently attached * without the use of a tool, after which they are artificially cooled or can cool gradually or under predetermined conditions, so that the adjacent surfaces are shrink-fitted between the pins and the pipe parts at 40, 41 and between the sockets and pipe parts 30, 32 results. After the heated part has cooled down sufficiently and a predetermined stress has been achieved between the connecting body and the pipe parts, the individual parts are expediently tightly pulled together by machine in order to achieve good torsional resistance between the parts and a tight engagement of the thread along the entire length to ensure.
A similar design is used for flush connections, such as has been shown in FIG. The pipe part 5o has one here smooth outer surface 5i, with which a socket or a pin part 52 is connected, whose or his Bore 54 is shrunk onto surface 53 of the tube will.
According to the invention, the pipes and the connecting parts with one another interchangeable. For example, the connector 12 with external thread and an outer cylindrical surface and the connecting piece ia with an internal thread are provided, which cooperates with the external thread of the part 12, wherein the piece io has an inner cylindrical surface that corresponds to the corresponding cylindrical surface of the part 12 cooperates. In this case, part of the Tube heated instead of heating part of the connecting body, whereupon the tube is shrunk onto the connector. It is essentially the case here to reverse the training of the individual parts.
In the described assembly of the individual parts and from this Resulting design local stresses are prevented, which in the high Measures to avoid the previously occurring adverse effects is contributed.
Although a particular embodiment is shown and described has been made, changes of various kinds can of course be made, without departing from the essence of the invention.
