solcher Gemenge fast durchtyeg@ sehr-hoch. Die Soda schmilzt zwar schon -bei niedrigen
Temperaturen, ihr Wirkungsgrad ist aber nur mäßig.Process for dephosphorization of molten steel An important technical one
Progress would be achieved if it were possible to melt steel with an excessively high phosphorus content
the quality of the end product, rather than lengthy smelting operations
to a large extent to dephosphorize through a short-term treatment with fast-acting additives.
This applies above all to the manufacture of cast steel in the small-scale workshop. It
It has already been proposed to dephosphorize steel melts containing phosphorus in this way,
that they come into intimate contact with thin, lime-rich, oxidizing slags
be brought, e.g. B. by pouring the steel from a great height into a
such liquid fresh slag. Attempts have also been made, through the action of alkali compounds,
especially soda or alkaline slags, such a quick and extensive one
To achieve dephosphorization. The use of alkalis stands in the way of the fact that they
At the very high temperatures of the steel melts, a considerable proportion is unused
evaporate and also annoy the workforce considerably. For these reasons
alkalis, especially soda, have not been introduced for dephosphorization.
The use of liquid, highly basic slag is opposed to melting
such slag causes great technical difficulties and is quite uneconomical
is, there are not only the basic oxides, but also those for the oxidation of phosphorus

Oxides must be liquefied '. -The excess

Temperatures, but their efficiency is only moderate.
In contrast, it was found through our own experiments that the double carbonate
Ca Nag (G03) 2, which is produced by melting together limestone and soda at around goo °
can be produced very quickly an extremely strong dephosphorus
Effect on molten steel; which has the effect of pure soda and alkali
or lime-rich fresh slag significantly exceeds and those identified above
Disadvantages of the behavior of the alkaline slags-only to a lesser extent.
When added to molten steel, the double carbonate melts at around 85o ° C, and at these temperatures the carbon dioxide content of the limestone already begins to give off, so that a very intensive oxidizing effect occurs without the addition of further oxidizing agents. The released lime participates in the formation of the phosphates, so that in the end a mixture of calcium and sodium phosphates is formed, from which the alkali oxides are practically not reduced by the iron melt. The double carbonate Ca Na2 (CO.) Has a two-fold effect, on the one hand through the stronger oxidizing effect, then on the other hand, through the stronger bond of the phosphoric acid, it is better dephosphoric than pure soda, of which considerable proportions are saved and replaced by the cheaper limestone. Another advantage is that other oxidizing agents, such as iron ores, counteract the dephosphorization with their. active admixtures, such as silica, etc., are not required. The carbonic acid of the calcium carbonate contained in the double carbonate works not only as an oxidizing agent for the phosphorus, but also as a flux for the Falk .. -As the double carbonate melts very low, it can be added to the steel melts both in the liquid and in the solid state.
Another advantage of the double carbonate over the soda is that
it can be stored in the open air without any special precautions, without moisture
which, when added to molten steel, impair the steel quality
would lead through the hydrogen uptake.
The amount of double carbonate to be added depends on the
The amount of phosphorus in the steel.- Experiments have shown that for
sufficient dephosphorization of a steel with 0.1 to 0.2% P starting content, for example
i to 2% of the double carbonate are required. The amount can be lined with basic
Pans can be chosen even lower. The addition can be done in the pan
also take place in other melting vessels, whereby the
intimate contact of the state with the molten steel can still be promoted.
To save the double carbonate it is necessary to reduce the silicon content
of the steel to be kept very low before the addition.
Example In the case of a Bessemerstahl melt weighing i; 6 t,
Put 2% of the solid double carbonate @ Ca Nag (C O3) 2 in the pan, which is poured through
Fusing together limestone and soda had been produced. The phosphorus content
was decreased from o, i to o, oi8% P.
Instead of the double carbonate of calcium Ca Nag (C0,) 2, ..
the corresponding double carbonates of barium BaNa2 (C03) 2 and strontium SrNa2 (C03) 2
and also the: corresponding double salts with potassium as alkali metal and mixtures
and mixtures of these double carbonates are used which are even better in comparison
have a dephosphoric effect, but are considerably more expensive.
