Description
After knee surgery, the knee must be moved to prevent stiffening and reduced mobility. This is done either by the therapist's hand or by a suitable machine. Up to now, a special machine has been used for this purpose, in which the foot is fixed to a sled and moved back and forth on a rail in one direction of movement. The leg was completely moved in the hip, knee and ankle joints.
This requires a machine that has no other function and cannot be used for other therapeutic measures. The whole leg must also be moved, which is not always possible if injuries to other joints or musculoskeletal systems have not yet healed. It is not possible to isolate the movement to the knee joint. These machines are expensive to purchase and require storage space.
The invention specified in claim 1 is based on the problem of creating a possibility of using a conventional training device otherwise used for active training in order to avoid another costly and space-consuming purchase and to move only the affected knee, while immobilizing other joints.
The invention enables an electric drive, which stands on legs and is attached via flanges, to drive a screw drive and thus a rack that moves up and down via a V-belt drive. The rack that moves up and down is in engagement with a gear attached to the chair (Ortotron KT II from CYBEX), which causes the movement via two limit switches. The drive is dimensioned so that it can be attached to the isokinetic training device Ortotron KT &Pgr; from CYBEX, which is very commonly used in hospitals and rehabilitation practices. It is a drive that can be quickly removed and attached to an existing system. The shaft of the actuator arm is moved directly, creating a circular movement that only moves the lower leg and leaves all other joints in a resting position.
An advantageous embodiment of the invention is specified in claim 2.
The speed at which the actuator arm moves can be regulated using a potentiometer.
A further advantageous embodiment of the invention is specified in claim 3.
The possibility of adjusting the actuator's range of motion according to protection claim 3 makes it possible to treat the knee within the individual's possible range of motion. This prevents the knee from being moved in an angle range that is not yet possible and thus suffering damage.

Figure 1 shows the training device (or chair) from the front. The patient sits on the chair with his back against the backrest (Fig. 1, No. 1) and his lower leg is strapped to the cushion (Fig. 1, No. 4). The cushion is attached to the actuator arm (Fig. 1, No. 3), which in turn is attached to the shaft (Fig. 1, No. 5) that runs through the housing (Fig. 1, No. 6). The gear (Fig. 1, No. 2 or Fig. 2, No. 8) is attached to this. The drive (Fig. 2) must be attached so that the gear and rack (Fig. 2, No. 11) are correctly engaged.
When the motor is switched on (Fig.2, No.3), the speed of which can be regulated using the potentiometer (Fig.2, No.2), the drive pulley (Fig.2, No.6) moves the worm gear (Fig.2, No.12) with the rack (Fig.2, No.11) via the toothed belt (Fig.2, No.4) and the drive pulley (Fig.2, No.5). When the rack reaches one of the limit switches (Fig.2, No.13), its direction of movement is changed. The rack moves the gear and thus the shaft of the actuator arm. The actuator arm and with it the patient's lower leg thus move back and forth by up to approx. 135° (Fig.3).
